$2180? No way anyone would buy this just for home use, would they?

    • +3

You would be surprise. Our coffee suppliers continuously talking, delivering and fixing home machines that cost between $4k to $6k

    • +1

Yes, lots of people who love great coffee. They even spend up to $4000 and more!

    • Its a shame this deal came a little too late for me, but I ended up with a dual boiler machine and an macap m4d. So to answer your question, many people spend more than $2K for home use.

  • +1

We have one like this at work. Great machine. It doesnt come with timer to stop after pouring 30 ml of coffee but that is minor to me.

But that price is hardly a bargain

    • +3

Its a bargain all right check on line for the cheapest price you can find on the machine alone you will not find it for $2180 let alone a free grinder worth $680. You are right regarding time this is a manual machine you control the time of the shot. Its the best way to make great coffee!

      • I did just check online - you're right in that you're the cheapest local supplier.

That being said, there would appear to be only one other Australian supplier with a *.au website (and they're a little iffy - there's no ABN, address, or contact details on their site, and their shopping cart/account registration pages appear to be unencrypted).

Edit : for the BZ10S, assuming it's different to the BZ10.

    • shot timers and the like are more a feature of superautomatic machines. This is a semi-auto machine (A full manual wouldn't even have the electric pump)… these machines are for those who prefer to have more control over their shot. Depending on the roast and blend, grind and tamp pressure some people might decide that in certain circumstances they get a better pour in 26 seconds or 32 seconds.

It doesnt come with timer to stop after pouring

Seriously!? Thats like buying a Mercedes S-class and finding it has no cruise control, or station memory on the radio.

No timer means either you stand there staring at it for 30 seconds, or do something else and risk getting distracted and drawing too long.

      • +1

You will make a better coffee with a semi-auto than a superauto as you can stop the shot at the right time.

      • More like buying a performance car and finding it doesn't have automatic transmission. People who are this into their coffee will always sacrifice convenience for the sake of control.

  • I'm more then happy with my Gaggia Classic for $300 thanks.

    • +6

      with my Gaggia

      her concert was pretty good…

    • you ever try and make cappuccinos for more than 2 people with that thing?

  • I have a question: what is a bargain?
Is having a huge discount on something only a small population of people needs; or a moderate discount on something everyone wants?

    • +5

Subjective question, depends on what the individual considers a bargain.

Some people on here go into mental breakdowns because they missed out on a 2 cent saving - obviously thinking they missed out on a great bargain, whereas others would shrug and move on.

If a particular item is much cheaper than you could normally buy it anywhere else then it's a bargain. How much of the population needs or can afford a particular luxury item is irrelevant. If it's selling significantly below it's usual price then it's a bargain for someone.

I love great coffee, and make great coffee better than most cafes in my area on a $200 Sunbeam..

    • Using pressurized baskets? Hows the microfoam? What grinder are you using?

  • +1

    International Roast for life.

Should break even with savings from the local cafe in about 12 years…

    • +4

So you have on average 1 coffee a week?? Then I would say a coffee machine is not for you. But at 3 coffees a day then:
      $4 X 3 = $12
      $12 X 5 = $60
      $60 X 52 = $3120
Lets not even consider the weekends.

        Wow! Love the maths…

Of course making it at home and/or work costs money too - but even with expensive beans and producing double shots, you'd have trouble spending a whole dollar per drink.

At home (with a less expensive machine) I make 5 coffees every morning (3 caffeinated kids + 2 adults) so I figure that my equipment breaks even after about 6 months. I assume my coffee costs $1 a cup to make (actually rather less) and the coffee is 'worth' $2. My technology is a 'Gee' semi-auto machine and a Rancilio 'Rocky' grinder.

Then, of course, there is the satisfaction of doing it yourself ;-))

        This offer looks pretty attractive!

      • So you have on average 1 coffee a week??

        yep, each Sat morning…

    • +1

I guess you either don't drink very much coffee or you're fortunate enoug to live somewhere where good coffee is extremely cheap.

  • +2

$2180 thats one fee for a cough. I'll settle for the aldi $79 coffee machine.

    • I have one of those, takes about 15mins to get up to pressure and the pump is extremely weak. Cleaning the unit is a joy, as the pressure on the dripper never relieves after use (too tight valves i think) causing the coffee to explode everywhere when you turn the handle for a refill. 2nd degree burns for a decent cuppa in the morning, love it.

  • This is a legitimate bargain because nobody can find a lower price for this specific item, even though personally I cannot see the value. How a coffee grinder can be worth $680 is beyond me. Perhaps Cartier made the blades and washed them in unicorns' tears. I bought a brand new, sealed box, coffee grinder at a garage sale for $3 and I doubt the $680 one performs better. Excuse me, I think my Bugatti Veyron has just arrived …

    • +1

Seriously? Anyone that knows anything about espresso will tell you that the grinder is THE most important piece of equipment. For what its worth I spent just over $1100 on my grinder (and it's by no means the most expensive on the market, by a long shot).

Out of interest what was the brand of the $3 grinder that you got? I want to know how good a bargain you got.

      • I spent just over $1100 on my grinder

        now i've heard everything…. :O

  • I got a used Spidem Trevi from Ebay for $120 delivered. I'm very happy with it. Anyone considering one, also look for Saeco Vienna Deluxe.

  • It was about 4 years ago, and it is the Breville Coffee 'N' Spice Grinder. It has no platinum blades or ruby-encrusted plug, and it was never blessed by the Vestal Virgins of Atlantis. Sorry for my late reply, I was commissioning a third helipad for my superyacht in Monte Carlo.

    • +1

Helipads are so yesterday… you need a transporter - Beam me up Scottie!

Ahh I see a coffee n spice grinder. In all seriousness, you can't grind coffee properly in a grinder with spinning blades, you need a burr grinder (either flat or conical). Its not about whether you can break the bean into little pieces but about making sure that the particles are of a similar size. Theres nothing in a spice grinder that allows you to set the coarseness of the grind, you just smash the beans around until you think they are broken enough. Some bits will be very fine, some bits will be huge chunks.
