    HODL for 7900 series launch.

  • +6

Is this the first generation where the price to performance ratio went the wrong way?

    • +9

The 2000 series was the same on pure performance, especially on release where games didn't use the extra features it offered.

      • +1

Not when compared to 10 series MSRP. That's the problem we're seeing right now: 30 series vs 40 series thus far has been on the exact same MSRP scaling.

Should change when AMD launch, because I don't think even NVIDIA likes these prices.

      • +2

The 2080 Ti offered much worse price/perf than either the 2070 or 2080. The 4090 is better price/perf than the 4080, especially for ray tracing.

The 2080 was also roughly 10% stronger than the 1080 Ti for the same price, the 2070 was 10% stronger than the 1080 for a 16.6% lower MSRP.

The 4080 is around 50% stronger than the 3080 for a 70%+ higher MSRP. The 4080 is arguably the worst card Ngreedia has ever launched, it loses out compared to its current generation as well as all previous generations.

        • The point I made was that the 1080ti was a great price where the 2080 was released with the same performance as the 1080ti, but was the same price as the 1080ti making it a poor value investment.

While the 4080 is a rip off, I wouldn't say the 3080 vs 4080 value comparison is that different to the 1080ti vs 2080 price comparison except that the 2080 had RTX and the 1080ti did not, however the 4080 has much stronger RTX performance.

Can't we agree they are both bad? ;)

          • @samfisher5986: No, because the 2080 came in at the same price point as the 1080 Ti but was faster and had RT cores.

The 4080 really can't even be compared to the 3080. With the die size, memory bus and % enabled of the 102 die, it's really only a 4070. The 3080 Ti is basically a 3090 with half the VRAM, so it's ludicrous to compare it to the 4080, just because they have the same price point. Also, the 3080 Ti really hasn't been $1200 USD for a long time, other than at the height of the crypto boom. It's been more of an $800-900 USD card.

    • If you mean between the 4090 and the 4080, I think that might be the case. It's hard to remember a case where the "high-end mainstream" product (4080) had equivalent or worse price to performance as the top of the line halo product (4090) before now.

Under $2000 already. Definitely hold out for as long as you can.

  • +10

Sheesh… needs to drop that 1 in front to make it worthwhile.

  • +4

Will be under $1500 sooner or later

    • +1

At that price, I might grab one. Else lets see how low the xtx goes early next year.

  • +31

Let all the RTX 3000 series and RTX 4000 rot on the shelf. Nvidia wants you to purchase the overstock and overprice 3000 series, so they can in future inflate the price of the 4000 series and beyond.

    • From a manufacturing cost perspective, it's not them overpricing the 30 series. It was the AIB partners over-ordering to cash in on crypto. EVGA exited the market on the back of it.

I'd suggest this is a one-time thing NVIDIA have done to appease the board partners, and there will be a price cut in December.

This x 100. Buying a 3000 series card right now is still falling into NVIDIA's consumer trap. Instead of accepting the fact that market & economic conditions have changed unfavourably and taking responsibility for their actions, NVIDIA have decided to squeeze consumers in order to try and maintain their bloated profit margins.

I'm overdue for an upgrade and will be buying an AMD GPU because of this.

These cards should be priced between 1400 - 1900
I love that people are voting with their wallets. Stay strong.

    • +3

Nah these cards should be priced at 1.1-1.3k max (1.3k for watercooled ones). This acceptance of price creeps is what's causing nvidia to continuosly tow the line.

      • +1

yeah theres been a price creep in most parts at launch, even 6000 series, but no competition in price creep against 30/40 series

    • If it was a true 4080 I'd agree, but it's really only a 4070 judging by specs. Should be $1.2k tops.

  • +8

    Sharp pricing

    Agree it's very painful

  • +2

If this was 2020 ~ 2021, it would have been snapped by now, but yes, times has changed. Vote with your wallets!

    • +4

lucky I didn't buy 3080 10GB from ex miner for $2000 on gumtree. best decision I ever made.

  • +2

I bought my EVGA RTX 3080 (FTW3 Ultra) at RRP and it was $1250 if not mistaken. So this definitely needs to drop below $1500 to get any attention.

  • +3

At this rate the 5080 will be 3 grand at launch

    • +3

      or more. Greedy bastards!

    • What starts with a 5, sales with a 5… grand.

  • Saw this early this morning.
I'm thinking it could be a price error as the msi card they have, has only been discounted from $2659 down to $2619.

Have tryed sending msg via chat but haven't heard back.

  • +2

Reduce this by another $800 then we'll talk.

  • +1

    Pricing error, showing $2.25 now

    • +3

      Wasn't greedy…only ordered one.

      • +1

        hahaha hope you get it!

        • Didn't get it.
Looks like my PayPal has been refunded and had a missed call from a south Oz number

    • +1

Lol, Yes $2.25 (two dollars and 25 cents) is the new price that is sharp pricing

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Abysmal-RTX-4080-sales-suppose…

Let them bleed. 7000 series launch early next month too which hopefully pumps the 4080 and causes further price drops

  • +1

    URL is now dead.

    • +3

      Good.

  • Poor pricing. Does not meet the end user expectations from a company who currently has more focus on pricing than being competitive. What a shame !!

  • $1200-$1300. That's what it's worth.

  • They must have sold their target quantity. deal over
