Great value! I got from shopping express deal for $280 shipped. This is even better!
Set up the PBO and then it's basically a 5800X.

    • +1

$270 relies on Amazon gift cards - a thing which was sold out across ALDIs within perhaps an hour of release.

      • +1

Not really, I got $2800 worths of them from a few different Aldis around Brisbane. Pretty much everybody has enough stock for everyone.

        • +5

Had.. I went to a few different Aldi's around brisbane and they said some dude had just been in and cleaned them out :D

          • @Torzz: That's definitely not me. I was able to go around 5 Aldis and got most of them and my wife grabbed the last 3 from Garden city.
Acacia Ridge and Slacks creeks had plenty when I left mid day. The thing is, most Aldi has at least 2 different locations for gift cards. Did you check them all?

  • I couldn’t see Amazon gift card on ALDI list. Is it a onetime prepaid visa/mastercard?

    • No

    • It's still on the ALDI website. I went in store and picked up 3x$100 Amazon GC's for $270. Each card gives you a code which you can add to your Amazon account at checkout (So it stacks :D) so I believe its a value redemption as opposed to prepaid visa/mastercard.

      • +2

At what time did you buy the gift cards? I was told at my local Aldi, that 20 were bought by a single individual and there’s no more stock.

        • +2

Slipped in yesterday evening before close. There was a 5pp limit, but I guess ALDI staff were no match for a fellow OZBargainer set on 20… :( Sorry to hear, hopefully they restock until end of promotion.

        • My local still had 5x$100 now, wondering if they are bringing them out slowly

  • +5

    give me 5600 discounts!!!

    • +1

Yeah is this worth the premium over the 5600?

      • +1

For gaming, no. For anything else, yes.

        • Cheers

        • So 8 core vs 6 core but no cooler with the 5700x?

    • +1

Agree! I've been hanging for a decent deal under 200 including shipping.

    • give me 5600 discounts!!!

      Already discounted to $199

      • +1

I think everyone is waiting for $165 to come back

    • I will have a heavily discounted 5600 available once my 5800X3D arrives 😀

Whats a good value mb + ram combo for this?

    • also keen to know!

    • +1

Pair it with a b550 motherboard/b550m if urs is a mATX build then just about any 3600mhz ram will do, like this corsair LPX from amazon delivered

    • AMD website shows that this can only use DDR4 at 3200mhz, not a negative but just FYI for those asking about ddr5 in chat. I'm building a pc around this so also keen to hear anyones thoughts :D

      • DDR4 but have run multiple 5000 series cpus at over 4000mhz on ram, would not limit myself to 3200mhz

      • +1

It’s just not worth it. A DDR5 setup at this point in time is just not providing a big enough improvement to make it worth the extra cost involved. Either build a DDR4 system around this or wait until next year when the dust settles on DDR5 system designs. They are still very immature.

3200 speeds is optimal for this chip, anything higher you either run asynchronous or overclock the CPU. Either case I’d be doing a bit more research beforehand.

I’m running a 5600 on an old b350 board with Corsair 3000mhz ram and it’s still smashing it out performance wise.

      • 3200mhz would be the officially supported clockspeed (of all zen 3 CPUs not just this one), anything else is considered RAM overclocking. The actual supported speed depends on the motherboard. There is no reason you cannot reach 4000mhz.

    • MSI B550 MPG and MAG are excellent boards and were the 2 I chose between when I bought a 5700X the other day from the Shopping Express deal.

    • I'm running it on a B450, but had to do bios update for it to run, if there's some good, cheaper b450's still around.

      Also using DDR4 3600 CL18.

    • Whats a good value mb + ram combo for this?

MSI B550M Bazooka or Pro-VDH are good mid-range motherboards with excellent VRM thermal performance ( here is a review). I grabbed the Bazooka from Amazon for $159 a few weeks ago for a 5700X. And a 32GB kit of Ripjaws V 3600 CL18 for $169 (still available at that price), no RGB bling but pretty good RAM IMHO. Had zero issues with the MB or RAM.

  • +1

What’s the minimum gpu for this so it’s not bottlenecked?

I’m using 3600 and i’ve seen charts where using 5700x or 5800x3d it with 3060 or 6600 is absolutely no value

    • +4

Depends on the game really? I play a lot of Flight Sim I think that is a bit more CPU bottlenecked than most games but usually all games are GPU bottlenecked.

    • 3060 isn't the same as a 6600, however a 3060 is comparable to a 6600 XT, If you game at 1080p then a 6600 XT should be enough (or a 3060 if you want), for 1440p at least the 3060 for its high VRAM and 192 bit memory bus, or something a little higher like a 3060 TI or a 6700 XT (even a 6700 is enough)

      • Do you think 3060 on Triple 1080p is okay? For racing Sim games. Would I be bottlenecking it by not playing in 1440p?

        • Should be fine as far as I know, it might impact performance a bit, forcing you to lower graphics by some margain, for example might not be able to play using 3 monitors with ultra graphics —> have to lower to High graphics, but ultimately depends on the game.

I do remember sometime reading the 3060TI was capable of triple 1440p, i dont see why the 3060 shouldn't work with triple 1080p. U do have to do some digging around for ur specific situation though.

  • Is it worth upgrading from a i7 8700k oc @ 4.9ghz? Purely for gaming

    • +2

yes absolutely, but you might as well go with zen4 or 13th gen.

      • Which do you recommend , also would I need to upgrade my ram to ddr5 ?

        • +1

If you have the budget for a full platform upgrade which you'll need, it's honestly a tough one right now.
Zen4 CPU prices dropped significantly lately, but the Motherboard prices are still insanely high even for entry level, that in comparison to Intel 13th Gen (LGA1700, dead platform after this gen), the costs are similar, but Intel is probably still the better value-to-performance right now, and you can also reuse your DDR4 ram, though you'd be limiting any 13th Gen chips performance.

I suppose it depends what you value; Longevity and possible drop-in CPU upgrades (AMD Zen4), or a good performance build now which you hope to leave as is for 3+ years before another upgrade (Intel 13th Gen).
And are you going to upgrade your GPU as well?

          • @TheBargainDog: I tend to upgrade once every five years I’ll be keeping my gpu, would like to keep my ram aswell but I will go ddr5 if it’s worth it

            • @Believ3r: I see, no probs, what GPU and RAM specs are you running?

              • @TheBargainDog: CPU : i7 8700k o.c @ 4.9ghz
                CPU COOLER: Kraken z63
                MOTHERBOARD : Asrock z370 extreme 4
                GPU: Msi suprim x 3080ti
RAM : 32gb Patriot viper gaming rgb series ddr4 4133mhz.
                NETWORK CARD: Asus pce-ax3000
STORAGE: 1tb Sandisk ultra II, 1tb Samsung SSD 860 evo, 1tb Western digital Ssd, 1tb crucial ssd.
                PSU: 750w Corsair
                CASE: H510 Elite

I game at 1440p if that helps , also would prefer a cpu which I can o.c

                • @Believ3r: Oh fantastic. GPU, PSU and RAM are all great.

If you want to reuse the RAM, which I'm guessing was quite expensive, than the Intel 13600k (Or KF for bit less) would be your best choice.
If you have the budget, I'd still recommend DDR5 given you'd be doing a full platform upgrade, can always sell your DDR4, so again, it's down to longevity/new platform with Zen4 vs higher overall performance with Intel 13th Gen. I'd say 13th Gen is your best bet for now, at least until AM5 motherboards come down dramatically in price and AM5 Matures.

                  • @TheBargainDog: Ok with the 13600k I can still use my current m/b right and how much of a performance boost will I see with the cpu you recommend?

                    • @Believ3r: No, the LGA 1151 socket your 8700k uses was phased out a few years ago, hence why you'll need a full platform upgrade (Motherboard, CPU, RAM) no matter what.
You'll need a new LGA 1700 motherboard for the 13600k.

                      • @TheBargainDog: You’re a legend thanks for the help

                        • +1

@Believ3r: Pleasure, Z690 or Z790 boards (Make sure they're DDR5) are good options, though Z690 should save you a buck but may need a BIOS update first to use the 13600k.

    • No. Unless you have a very very high end GPU, and then you might as well go for a 5800XD/gen4/intel

  • +4

Thank you! Purchased! upgrading from a i5 4690k

  • Is it worth an upgrade from a Ryzen 5 5500 ?

    • +2

Depends, if ur feeling a bit limited by ur CPU then its worth to note that the 5700X has:

      • 2 more cores
      • 16 MB larger L3 (important for gaming)
      • PCIe 4
      • Higher turbo and memory bandwith
      • Atleast 10% faster in singe core and 30% faster in multi

Its upto you to see if its worth $299, if not then probably aim for a higher cpu.

  • +2

Worth a step up from 3600x? Or should I aim for 5800x3d in 12 months time?

    • 3600x actually is still pretty good, worth upgrade to 5600 for $199, 5700x for $299 or 5800x3D for $499? Really depends if you really need extra CPU power.
      If you got 4090, 4080, 3090ti, 6950xt, 7900xtx or 7900xt? Sure, but get 5800x3D instead.
If you use it for productivity? Sure
If you got mid or low end GPU and for gaming? It is a minimal upgrade, worth the extra cash? No to me, I will saved up for a new GPU or wait few more year’s upgrade to new platforms.

  • Thanks for the heads-up, bought 1, $10 off using Amazon app first time. Didn't bother with the ALDI gift cards.

  • Would this be an ideal upgrade from an i5 6600k or am I better off waiting for a discount on the ryzen 5600? I do light gaming on titles such as league and csgo with the occasional flight simulator at 1440p on a RTX 2060. I plan to keep my gpu and just upgrade to a new cpu mobo and ram set.

Am4 is a lot cheaper compared to am5 once factoring in b650 and ddr5 costs however maybe it is worth it idk. I don’t really care about future proofing as I will end up using the new cpu for the next 6-7 years.

Would love to hear any thoughts or guidance.
    Thanks in advance :)

    • +3

I went from i7 6700k to ryzen 5600 a few weeks ago when the 5600 first dropped to $199, got cpu+mb for $300, I game at 4k on gtx3080 and my frames have all noticeably went up 10-20 fps on the games I play.
      cyberpunk 60-70 to 70-80 destiny2 70-80 to 80-100 fps it's been a great upgrade for me.

  • Which new atx motherboard (b550 or x570-s) would you guys recommend for this?

  • No Amazon cards at Aldi Adelaide Airport

    • local aldi had none and an employee said there were "issues" with the amazon gift cards & had been recalled. he didnt elaborate on the issues.

  • If anyone is looking for a decent ~$150 range motherboard for this CPU. Have a look at the MSI B550M Bazooka for $165 (or $148.5 if you can grab a couple of 10% off Amazon giftcards)
Some notable features that you won't generally find with other B550 boards in $150 price range:

    • Excellent VRM performance due to large heatsinks (can even comfortably run a 5900 series CPU, and great for overclocking )
    • Flash the BIOS without a compatible CPU (although you probably don’t need to do that for a 5700X despite being a 2022 CPU, at least I didn’t have to with mine even though mine came with a 2020 BIOS)
    • PCIe Gen 4 M.2 support (unlike some cheaper B550 boards out there), also comes with heatsinks
    • USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C internal header (for newer cases with USB C front panel connectors)
    • 4x Memory slots (again unlike some sub $150 B550 boards which only have 2)

P.S: Saw the listing after my earlier comment above, which I can no longer edit, and only 4 boards left so not going to post as a deal.

  • Anyone know how to claim uncharted games from this?
