Anyone have experience with the Intel NUC i7 model? Interested in whether the build quality and battery life are good.

    • I am also curious about this laptop, my knowledge is not great but it seems like good value. I assume there must be some negatives, would love to know what they are

      • +6

I paid $1100 for this a few months ago and don't regret it, even at that price it was a great deal this price is crazy. Build quality is excellent and I have no issues hitting 10 hours on battery.

        • +1

Same experience with mine, very happy with build quality. No driver issues when compared to my old Asus.

        • +1

Same experience with mine - I bought it for $1150 back in July so this is an absolute steal at $899.

          • @OldSchoolHarry: Is the laptop portable and thin? Currently using a Metabox gaming laptop and lugging it around for work is tiring lol.

            • @sin069: Yeah the laptop is very portable (1.65 kg) despite of all metal construction; feels very solid and looks good too (I have the silver one).

              • @OldSchoolHarry: I received the same laptop today from GG.Tech as mentioned in the below deal/link:

                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739209

Ironically I have received a charger which is not compatible with AU sockets. Can you please confirm and share your experience? Does the laptop not come along with a standard charger or is that shipped by the seller on its own? Interestingly the charger was part of the Intel Box packing.

                • +1

@NeverMissABargain: Yes these laptops ship with a US plug for the cable, most sellers add an AU cable along with it for free. All you need is a standard C5 power cable to swap out with the US one, shouldn't be hard to find online or officeworks sell them also.

                • +1

@NeverMissABargain: So, mine came with US cord I think. You just have to buy an AUS cord (I bought this and it works fine) - the charger part is fine (it's just a USB C charger).

    • +2

It's how laptops should be made. Super sturdy build, full metal, so is solid but not heavy. Track pad is nice and responsive (if not Apple level), hinge feels very durable and opens/closes well.

Was no vendor bloat on it. Worked brilliantly out of the box.

In terms of negatives, honesty no clue. 11th gen is maybe a tad older and more power hungry than the latest amd chips?

  • +5

farkk $11.xx to ship that micro sd card ? seriously ? im not in remote area

    • +1

      $15 for me =(

Got all excited for that one and was going to stay up for the midnight sales, then I saw that on the sight and it completely kills the deal.

      • +1

now people dont do honest business anymore/
whats is wrong with them they used to be good. the owner sometimes posted a deal here
i guess with will say oh handling and shipping bullsh

        • +1

          $22.50 postage for me! ROFL

          • @theSav: and the surcharge probably based on total ! so double dipping for them lol
well if some chick is delivering that card in person i dont really mind paying $22

    • $12.50 for me, glad I got the sandisk extreme 256gb for $26.99 on Monday. Probably won't get any better than that since I remember I paid $39.99 ($29.99 because of $10 promo credit I had) on Prime Day.

      • The 256gb ultra one was just posted on Amazon for $19.99 (or $12.99 if you hadn't used a parcel point before). I know inferior to the Extreme but dirt cheap.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740297

        • lol, you replied to my comment about the parcel thing..Anyways I don't really need it, was just trying to see if code works.

    • its flat shipping, i ordered a cpu and a motherboard and together they are still 11.35 to melbourne

    • Probably a result of "losing" to many envelopes in the mail.

That's how I got all the cards I ordered from them.

  • +3

Cheapest envelope with stamp can ship the SD card?

    • +1

Nah. Australia Post want $10, for a stamp of Charlie…The future is now 😂

  • Can you upgrade RAM on the laptop?

How's the CPU compare to R7?

I'm not sure I want 15.7", it's my current and okay but not the most portable.

    Can't win 🤣

    • Yeah I think 14" is a good size for a work/school laptop.

      • Yeah, I ordered a surface but it may be too small.

I can't have it all it seems!

  • -8

I bought a SD card from these guys last week but I haphazardly used browser Autofill to put the address information into the form and it left out the street address. I didnt double check to see if it was correct (prob because my old info was there and it it looked right from a casual glance). Anyways these guys didnt check the address either before they posted it out without tracking, so my sd card is somewhere in limbo. They didnt reassure me they will send the package if it returns to them either, they just said they will "keep a lookout incase it arrives". Good thing I used paypal so if I dont get the package I can get a refund. They dont seem too much like a professional bunch imo.

    • +6

They print a label and paste it on. As if they would manually check each address for thousands of orders. It's the buyer's responsibility to get their shipping details correct. Don't tell me you're going to blame SE for this?

      • -4

They can see if there are fields missing Automatically if they had a proper computer system. They couldve tracked it too. They could also reassure they will send it out if it comes to them. fffs? Have you missed filling in a form and got prompted to fill in the blanks? that is the problem im talking about

        • +4

Right. You put in the wrong address and it's their fault, not yours. Logic. Hope you never buy anything off me on ebay, you'll abuse the return system for sure. Worst kind of buyer.

          • -1

            @Vita85: For a (profanity) refund?

            • +3

@cmanc: Hope PayPal decides in their favour and you get squat.

              • -1

@Vita85: why? wtf is your prob?

                • +4

@cmanc: WTF is yours? You messed up. OWN IT

                  • -4

                    @Vita85: They are also liable

                    • +2

@cmanc: They are in no way liable for your stuff up.

                      • -4

@deva5610: If they dont check the information right they are liable. How often you see ozbargainers whinging about getting nothing from a pricing error even though transaction has gone through? You could argue that its an honest mistake too thats how I see it

                        • +2

@cmanc: I'm with deva on this. YTA. Be a man and own up to your mistakes.

Be a man. Do the right thing.

                        • +2

@cmanc: An honest mistake, yes, and it's for you to owe up to the mistake. That's how mistake works. That's how responsibility works.

                          • +2

@Wonderfool: Exactly. That's how adulting works unless cMANc is just a kid.

                            • -1

@clubhonda: Getting personal for no good reason?? being a kid no, do you think its manly throwing personal insults around on the internets? The system is obviously not up to standard if it doesnt pickup on simple errors. And if the parcel returns to them they need to ship it out or refund. Its simple commerce S)(@#$@^

                              • +1

@cmanc: Well, while name calling is unnecessary, you're not gonna find support regardless.

                              • @cmanc: I'm not getting personal. I personally couldn't care less about you, but the disdain in my opinion for your actions probably came out in my choice of words.

                                • -2

@clubhonda: I couldnt give a rats about you either, dont even bother replying why dont ya.

                                  • @cmanc: Well, somebody needs to tell you that you're the Karen here, in case that wasn't apparent enough. Read everyone's responses here, nobody thinks that you're right. That probably says it all. Of course, a Karen will always thinks that they are right and the whole world is wrong and against them. Shrugs

    • +3

You made a mistake and now want to get PayPal to force a refund if it doesn't arrive because of your error?

      • -3

If I dont get a delivered parcel then ffs I want a refund.

        • +3

If you don't get a delivered parcel to an address you entered incompletely is not the shippers fault.

      • +1

No, they're pointing out the fact, this business can't competently, establish, a form to be completed, before accepting an offer…lol

    • While I do think you fluffed up, I also think that it's the responsibility of a seller sending out expensive goods to at least make sure the shipping address is valid. ebay will eat up sellers alive if they're not careful because 99% of the time they will side with the buyer.

I've dealt with great sellers who have amazing communication during and after the sale. I used to think that sending too many messages was too much, but now that i think about it this is how you make your customers feel reassured and safe that you'll get your stuff.

(Anyway, I think the 256gb card is at a good price might go for it)

  • +2

13600K for $449 + post and no surcharge with Zip. Great deal.

    • I jumped at it. Cheers

  • +1

Any way to know which deal comes up at which time? Or am I expected to be overly caffeinated by the pc all night while watching the football?

    • +1

All the memtioned items will start at midnight toniight at the same time.

      • Thank you, I can't read

  • Good price for a 5700X

  • Anyone know if you can upgrade RAM on the laptop? It doesn't look like it :(

AMD would be better for music production, but the i7 I think it faster than a 5800U.

  • Dahua means "lie" in Mandarin. Am I really going to trust a brand that literally means lie? Hmmmm..

    • +5

Mate, dahua means Great Chinese in the Chinese language. If you use pinyin, it can mean lie, but the actual Chinese characters mean Great Chinese. Don't spout rubbish if you can't read Chinese mate. I only did a few modules of Chinese but I know at least that much.

      • Lol I mean totally awkward you're directing this to a native speaker who reads and writes.

        • oh yeah, say something in native then

          • @nGu: 台灣第一名!夠嗎?還要我說什麼呀?

            • +1

              @Munki: nani~?!

              • +1

@nGu: Mitsubishi bukkake! Toyota Fujitsu dattebayo.

                • @Munki: 你白痴啊你。大话与大华都分辨不出吗?你二吗你啊啥?

  • Pity only one per customer, otherwise can buy more that memory card and try

  • Anyone heard about the SD cards?

Might be good for a Nintendo Switch. But never heard of the Brand

  • I'm interested in purchasing this laptop, how bright is the screen? 300 nits?

    • +1

      400 nits.

      • Thanks for your help. 400 nits is great

  • where are the 5600 deals! I feel like im taking crazy pills!

  • This or the Acer Swift deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739252 please ?

Acer has a dedicated GPU n the CPU is slightly better than NUC's. Acer looks better on specs. Is there any reason I should buy this NUC instead? I will use my laptop for programming n gaming btw, don't need touch screen and expect will carry it around a bit so the built quality should be good.

  • I snagged the Intel NUC M5 for my son who's going into high school next year. Good build quality according to reviews, excellent battery life, 16GB RAM… much better than the options the school supplier is trying to flog for $1300-1500.

    • Lucky you! It's OOS now.

      • Wow… I didn't know how many units there would be or how much interest, but me and the dad of my son's best friend decided we'd stay up and hit F5 at midnight to try and get them. We both managed to, which is extra good because it means our kids won't be arguing about whose laptop is better :P

  • Was it like 5 units? I tried to check out at 9.02pm

  • Welp no more Intel Nucs left lol

    • +1

You can get the exact same model for $971 if you have eBay plus: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/403986579369?fbclid=IwAR2rZF0rpt…

With postage and CC surcharge the Shopping Express one was $923 so the eBay option is still pretty good.

      • They just bumped the price up by $50 on that eBay listing this morning, so now just over $1k with discount.

    • +1

They briefly restocked the NUCs again this morning. Managed to get one just before but now already OOS again. Maybe worth keeping an eye on the site to see if further stock drops bit by bit.

  • 9.95 for MicroSD + $22.60 for regular post shipping. Get %#@ed ShoppingExpress.
