pretty good specs. Even the screen seems reasonable.

  • +1

How good is this! 1.4kg as well.
HN is the King of deal makers.

    • I'm wondering if it really does have a GTX1650 or if a HN monkey typed in the wrong specs.

      • +8

        It does, but 35W TDP.

        • +3

How much of a limitation is this, for the uneducated?

          • -4

@wombat81: One major but undervalued advantage of having even a lower power dgpu like this is that it essentially gives you can extra 4gb of system memory! For gaming mostly, you go from 16gb of ram to 20gb, and that's huge!

      • -1

Graphic cards in laptops are such a joke, they vary wildly depending on silly model numbers. Hard to figure out what it actually is.

        • The model numbers are pretty consistent, the amount of power fed to them is wildly inconsistent and sometimes hard to find.

    • +6

      Not today Feedthetroll. Not today.

  • I have no idea about screen specs!

Is the screen similar to a Mac? (I don't like those screens that seem to change 'shades' when you change the angle.)

I'm looking for something that has a glass screen, like a Mac!

Can someone share their profound tech wisdom?

  • Note: RAM is soldered.

    • +3

      you need more then 16gb?

      • Maybe not now, but in 5 years, probably.

      • +1

Depends on what the use case is. If you're after this kind of laptop, probably not. 16gb is pretty good and would suit most people, especially in this price bracket.

  • Much better specs than the surface laptop 4 … should I return it and buy this one?

    • +2

Surface has better display though, depends what you need

    • +1

I'm in the same boat 🤣🤣🤣

The runtime is 19 hours on a surface, this is 11 hours.

It's also $70-$80 more but larger SSD and CPU!

Build quality probably goes to Mircosoft too.

I don't need a GPU, but if the CPU is much better than I'm interested.

I just bought the other deal, but I got a feeling well see a few good deals! I don't wanna buy 2-3 laptops and return bahaha

    • lol same lol

But i heard acer quality built is crap

      • Same. Like the specs but not very confident about the quality of Acer…

        • Is acer screen 120hz?

      • +1

I missed out on the surface, but got one of these.

Review here indicates build quality is probably pretty good ( but prob not surface good)
        https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Swift-X-SFX14-with-GTX-16…

        • Thanks. I will probably buy one too after seeing the review you shared above. I have never owned an Acer laptop before but I think they have improved on product design and manufacture quality in recent years.

  • +2

Acer Swift X 5800U and rtx 3050 ti I've been aiminf to get for a while. No loxal stock US import is about $1.6k

  • That's a great setup!

  • Thanks, picked one up for high school BYOD program

    • Great laptop for students.

    • Yeah this is perfect for gaming in class

  • Tossing up between this deal or the https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739021

    • I'd wait a few days to see if more better deals on BF.

      In relation to your post

      1. Acer Aspire is an entry level chassis.
      2. Intel i5 1240p is very power hungry and technically only has 4p cores. Max TDP is almost 60w. Your battery won't last long.
      3. The screen is only 250nits brightness and 45% NTSC colour gamut.
      4. It weighs 2.1kg
    • +3

The Swift X if you want portability, the Aspire 7 if you are mainly using it as stationary machine

If you intend to keep the machine a long time, the Aspire can also be swapped out to 32GB DDR4

      • I find it very hard to find a laptop that I can upgrade RAM, but obviously I want the latest gen CPU because I want to use it as a workstation but also for music production

        • +1

Well get your wallet ready for the $1K'ish RTX 3060 deal because the differences in CPU pale in comparison to the jump from an GTX 1650 to an RTX 3060

          • @Look Up: I don't need a GPU

Music production is CPU and ram.

No point buying a laptop with GPU, it'll just be more heavy and chew more juice.

That's the issue I'm facing hahaha

            I have a ps5, I don't game much.

Originally something like this, but latest gens are expensive
            Can't upgrade ram

Might be better off keeping the surface for the $900

Just wondering if I can find better specs for 1k

            • @[Deactivated]: Don't most music creators or producers use Macs?

Not for the speed of the hardware but because of the software support, low audio latency and "industry standard" workflow support?

              • @Look Up: No? Maybe 15 years ago.

  • Would a 2TB M.2 fit in the spare slot? Or would 1TB be the max? Thanks.

  • Is this ram upgradeable?

  • Would something like this be able to play Wow at all ?

    • Yes, easily.

  • +3

Gold colour is the only thing holding me back.

    • Same here!

      • you can just add on a case or a skin from dbrand if colour is the only thing holding you back

      • Roger that commander. Have a look on the Acer website and it looks a great deal more 'golden'. Daughter would not approve.

  • How is compare to this one? Limited-time deal: Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 Laptop, 14-inch FHD, 16GB RAM 512GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard Finger Print, Windows 10, Platinum Grey, 82HU000FAU https://amzn.asia/d/7yU6u5Q

    • Flex supports touch but has a less bright screen and smaller colour gamut. It doesn't have a dedicated GPU. The chassis is not fully aluminium. It's USB-C support is limited.

    • Plus = Screen can flip
Neg = No dGPU, poorer screen quality

Reasonable deal for Amazon because their laptop prices are generally not as sharp as the local retailers

  • Can someone please confirm the USB C port can use for both power and display?

    • -1

Pretty sure it is only for display and ports. Not power.

    • +2

If you actually read the review it says

" The laptop comes with two USB type-A ports. Additionally, there is one USB type-C port with both DisplayPort via USB-C and Power Delivery (supports charging the laptop via this port). Combined wiith the HDMI port, the Swift offers two video outputs in total. There is no integrated card reader."

      • Thanks, now I'm really tempted to replace my old ThinkPad E460 (2016).

  • +1

So close, but grabbed the HP Aero 13.3 for $695 instead. 16GB would have been nice, but $300 extra wasn't worth it for me.

  • Any laptops with 2x m.2 slots nvme?

    • If you look at the reviews of this laptop posted above it actually states

"SSD inside the M.2 slot with a free secondary M.2 slot"

    • There's photos in the review of the two M.2 slots

  • Does this laptop have a touch screen?

    • Nope

  • +2

Thanks OP. Bought one as a school BYOD. Paid via Paypal and HN just emailed a 10% ($97.80) E-Gift Card. Nice little bonus!

    • Just pulled the trigger on this also, seems like one of the better deals going this week, I paid with PP but no voucher here as yet.

    • did you receive the gift card from HN straight after you order? thinking to get this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739021

      • Yes. Paid in full. The laptop was dispatched less than an hour later. The gift card was emailed to me about 30 mins after I paid. As I said…it was an unexpected bonus. I have no idea what triggered it or what the conditions are.

        • I went on chat and they confirmed it should come with a gift card, sweetens the deal even more.

        • +1

The gift card is from a Black Friday promo where you get 10% of the purchase value back in gift cards. The deal and details are here if interested: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740280

  • Bought in store and got the 10% gift card. Even better value!

  • +1

Is paying the extra $400 worth it for a 3050 and 5800u?

    Acer Swift X SFX14-41G-R1S6 Creator Laptop | 14" Full HD 100% sRGB | AMD Ryzen 7 5800U | NVIDIA RTX 3050Ti Laptop GPU | 16GB LPDDR4X | 512GB NVMe SSD | Wi-Fi 6 | Backlit Keyboard | Windows 10 Home

    https://amzn.asia/d/2uImtHH

  • I really wanted to buy that one today for the BF 10% but sadly cannot use a PO address with HN :( I don't know why.
And I don't have an address Atm, I live in my campervan. Snif

  • Anyone have this particular model that would recommend it for light gaming?

    • +1

I think this would do more than light. I have a Ryzen 5 5600U only HP Aero and it does light VERY well. This Acer has a separate video card. Youtube has some videos.
