  • Had mine for a decent while now, these are cracking cans

    • Is there anything annoying about the design?

      • Great cans, but cheap and nasty cable. Mine failed the other day so no sound in one ear all of a sudden.. very common with them I found out when I started looking…

Not had any issues yet, but I don't use them 24/7 - I'm mostly using my VSX for mixing on these days. But they're very comfortable for me, which a lot aren't, as I've got a large scone…

      • had mine for a year and can't complain, would be nice to have detachable cable just in case.

when i was looking a lot of people were saying that they clamped tight or that the headband was painful, think it bothered me for a couple days then i got used to it, coming from a dt990

Ahhh, the 6XX DOES have a detachable cable

@mickeyjuiceman: lmao shit never even realized thanks man save me some trouble if something goes wrong haha

    • I need to get a new cable every year or so and when they're new they fit really tight and need to be stretched out on some books.

These are great headphones for anyone on the fence. After reading thousands of Reddit posts and various articles, I tried using these with the onboard soundcard on my PC's motherboard, and also a cheap DAC (the slightly better Sybasonic). I eventually settled on the Topping DX3 Pro+ and imo, an amplifier is definitely required to get the best out of these so please take this into consideration.

    • Yeah definitely. So the Topping drives them well? I've got a DX3 Pro, pretty sweet lil dac/amp./

      • I'm using them with a DX3 Pro (not the plus), and it has ample to drive them really well.

I also sometimes use them with a hybrid valve amp, and these work really well with that (high impedance helps in this case).

As to whether an amp is required, that's another question. I've driven them out of both my PC motherboard (has a headphone amp on it), and a macbook pro, and honest to Jebus, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test. But your mileage will vary a lot depending on the source.

        • Surprising that you can't tell a difference with such a good dac… At 300ohms you'd think most standard headphone outputs might struggle a bit.

          • @Budju: Like I said, it depends on your source. My motherboard has pretty good audio, and an opamp for high-impedance headphones.

The macbook also has better than average audio output quality.

I have that combo too. Couldn't be happier for the price…
My MacBook Pro (m1) can also drive them fine.

  • Probably the best value headphones in this price bracket.

These are awesome headphones, if you want anything better you gotta start spending 2x or 3x the price.

  • I really love my pair. Got them years ago now and never regretted.

  • I don't really use headphones but at this price I'm tempted!

  • Awesomely good headphones

Instead of first time user $10 why not help a random ozbargainer by using the referral randomizer instead? Same $10 too ;)

This series of headphones (HD6XX, HD600, HD650, HD660 S, HD58X Jubilee) benefit from sharing the same parts so the cables, earpads, grills, foam inserts, headband padding and all housings are interchangeable and can often be found at great prices everywhere.
When a bit of the headphone gets worn out, very easy to replace that bit and the headphones will feel and sound like new again. My own 58X are 4 years old now and sound better than new (thank you aftermarket ear pads). I got Hifiman Edition XS today for multiple times the price of the 58X and they have quite the challenge ahead of them to prove they are worth keeping :D
