    • 15% off gift card for JB hifi? How do you get that?

  • This or canon R6?

You'd struggle to find the R6 Mark 1 for less than $3,200 at which a fairer comparison is the A7 IV

I was looking at this recently and here were some of the main differences that mattered for me between the R6 and A7III

      Pros of the R6
      - Way faster electronic shutter @ 20 shots per second (40 on mark 2) vs 10 on the Sony (closer to 6 if uncompressed raw)
      - Sexy Canon glass including 50 & 85 f/1.2 and 28-70 f/2
      - slightly quicker autofocus

      Pros of A7III
      - Less than half the price
      - Still technically better image quality (although everything's good at this stage and there's not much in it)
      https://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Compare/Side-by-side/Sony-A7…
      - 24 megapixels vs R6's 20
      - Sony & 3rd party glass. This ended up being the biggest one for me. Canon lenses are good, but very expensive and they're running a closed ecosystem where they don't allow 3rd party manufacturers to make lenses for their RF mount and they sue anyone who does. This is a nasty, anti-consumer, monopolistic business practice that I'd rather not support as it results in no competition, less options and higher prices.

If price, glass, morals and image quality weren't an factor I'd go with the R6 for the swag factor and autofocus.

unfortunately they're like the main factors! So of course I went with the Sony A7III

I got it from Digidirect in person for $2,034 before cashback. I've always found them really generous and helpful at the Melbourne store.

      • R6 has a really big negative with recording in H.265, it requires a GPU decoder, but with windows only recent Intel IGPU's and GPU's are able to decode 422 10bit color. If you have a recent Apple product with M1 or M2 chip it should also play well.
The Sony only needs H.265 for some high FPS video, otherwise you can choose to record in H.264 even 10bit although there will be no GPU decode, but with a good enough CPU you don't need GPU decode for H.264

  • Thanks, can't argue with your reasoning, the Sony A7III will be good enough for me. What lens do you recommend to buy?

  • A7M4 price match (hm price 3098)➕ cashrewards➕Amex=2660

    A7M3 Sony price➕cashrewards➕cashback➕amex =1369.13

Grab a M3 and leave M4 in the cart.

    • whats hm price?

    • And why leave the M4 in the cart?

      • for next year

  • How does Cashrewards work? Whats the business model?

  • ridiculously good camera. BSI sensor, IBIS, very strong dynamic range and low light performance
