        The Action 3 has the same video quality as the Action 2 but in a redesigned chassis closer to the original Osmo that doesn't overheat as easily.

        You won't find the Action 3 for close to $279 for quite a while though

      Technically you cannot use them anywhere but aerodromes or indoors, according to the CASA rule that says you must be in physical visual contact with your drone at all times while flying, but as long as you're not disturbing anyone, putting them in danger, or flying in restricted airspace it's very rare that you'll suffer any more than being asked to stop and move on.

      It's a risk you'll have to be willing to take yourself, but know that yes, you will be breaking the law to fly an fpv drone in public.

    DJI Action 2, seems like a pretty pathetic purchase. Limited inbuilt memory, excessive purchases needed to make it useable, poorly designed and more.

      Excessive purchases? I don’t think you need to buy anything else really, except maybe a micro sd card for more storage but all action cameras need that.

        If you've ever owned an action camera, you'll realise the only thing they eat faster than memory is battery - which in this product is non-removeable, this means you'll have to buy an entire other secondary unit (and move your sd card) if you want more than an hour's recording. The other issue is the secondary unit charges the camera unit constantly, plus it overheats and eats batteries even faster.

        But watch the video I linked, at this point better to stick with other cameras.

          Yeah I’ve looked into it a lot. It has its faults (whichi think are probably overblown) and positives. I’ve bought one now so will see how it goes. I’ve owned lots of action cams going way back to the original gopro, though these days it’s less about “action” for me and more about filming the kids lol.

            @Dan83: I've been using mine constantly for the last couple of days. I got the version without the screen for $199. I'm really happy with it for the price. Sure a gopro 10 is better but I'd never buy a gopro 10 because I wouldnt spend $500.

            Battery life is acceptable for my use. I have been using it in 1080p 60fps and havent had any overheating. Image stabilisation is amazing and slowmo modes are great. I'm sure you will love it.

              @Buyingcrap: Yeah I used it today and was great. I always go OTT with research so I was well aware of the negatives, but there are many positives too, and I'm not so sure a gopro 10 is better. Depends on how you want to use it. The action 2 is just not so "action" but it's really good for a daily lifestyle type camera. How good are the magnet mounts! I have a box full of gopro mounts I never use because they are massive and cumbersome.

      I think this is V2 but there's a chance it is the old one given the steep discount. Dji has the V2 combo on sale for $1499 right now. Only problem is that flying these is illegal

          Yeah those are the old goggles. The new third-generation goggles are called 'DJI Goggles 2' which is an upgrade from the 'DJI FPV Goggles V2'. Yes it is very confusing.
          And the new DJI FPV drone is called the 'Avata'.

    I bought the $199 power combo. Put it in protective case, my boy dropped it from around 3 feet and it completely shattered. They have the first gen version and it’s built like a tank. I liked it, overheating wasn’t such an issue for me but go light on the ‘action’ part

    Bought action 2 dual screen pack a few weeks back for snorkelling. It’s ok as an underwater camera, also the timelapse works well together with the sticky mount. I like how you can transfer files from the camera to a micro sd card.
    As a camera it’s worse than iPhone, especially in low light conditions. Not sure why it has 4K mode as even 1080p a bit too much for the optics and sensor, judging by noise and artefacts.

    Overall it’s ok for an action camera if you need one to play with, but not sure it can satisfy any demanding user.

      Well this FPV deal is out of stock so it's a bit moot.

      The FPV drone is larger, faster and has a longer flight time. But kinda fragile.
      The Avata drone is smaller, lighter and has a prop guard which makes it more durable. It's also newer. But it's more expensive and you have to buy the controller separately.
