Maccas Burger with Cheese Melted and Stuck on The Box

So, I've been wondering if to put this up on OzB Forums or not. But well here we are.

Few days back, I went in to Maccas to get the $2 Big Mac Deal. I know Burgers are not that well constructed as shown in the Images, but what I got was: A box with the Big Mac in it, with the slice of Cheese – more than half of it outside the burger, melted and completely stuck to the Box (inside). It was melted way beyond any attempt to just "peel it off" and push it inside the burger again.

I walked up to the counter and showed it to the staff. Rather arrogantly, he mentioned "So it's a little cheese stuck on the box, what's the problem?" I told him that more than half of the cheese is out and is stuck on the box. He relented and again asked me what I want. I requested for a replacement. He mentioned "So you want a full replacement for the burger just for some cheese stuck on the box?" I was rather taken aback at the attitude and didn't know what to say. I gave it a shot and said "Yes". He frowned/whined and provided a replacement.

Was what I did right, what would you do in such a situation?

Yes, I would ask for a replacement too in this case.

So, I've been wondering if to put this up on OzB Forums or not. But well here we are.

As a general rule, if you spend any time wondering about whether to post this kind of thing, you're just looking for validation from strangers. Which is a bit sad.

Your plastic cheese on a Big Crap was hanging out the the side of the burger? I really don't care.

  • OP, misdirected communication meandered the conversation. Be direct and polite.

"Hi, I need help with my order, I opened my bigmac and one of the cheese slices has half of it stuck on the packaging as you can see here, I really enjoy my cheese so may I trouble you for another slice in the burger? Thank you so much."

Answer is either yes or no. Yes means you win end of story, no ozbargin post. no is walk away eat your burger anyway but now have the option to complain via email and get some vouchers and refunds. Also no ozbargain post.

They are on minimum wage - just eat the burger and hope they do better next time

So they shouldn't receive feedback or take any accountability just because they are junior/minimal wage employees? How will they ever learn to do better next time without any feedback?

A lot of people are arguing that it's just a rubbish $2 burger and the staff don't get paid much etc..

You are missing an important point,

The point, is that these kids need to learn some work ethics, morals and accountability.

Often it's their first job, so teaching them it's ok to do a half-cheesed job won't help their future employment endeavours either.

    • this is shy whipping subserviants should never have been outlawed!!!

    • Thankfully, someone with common sense feedback..

  • As someone who gets it without the bun, I've had cheeseburgers, where they put the cheese on the bottom, and then the patty on top. I use my own bun and like you said, the cheese is impossible to peel off, its ruined.

So I get where your coming from.

I know this is Ozbargain, but if your going to clog your arteries with plaque to eat comfort food you might as well hit up all those American style boutique burger joints. I just saw a cardiologist, 2 appointments and a stress test were over $1000.

  • so you swapped a Big Mac with only half a slice of cheese on it for a Big Mac with spit on it, sounds like a fair trade

    • Yes, especially when the perp gets caught!

  • Mcdonalds used to have a policy if the cheese was stuck to the "cardboard ring" or box you could ask for a replacement not sure if its the case now though.

    • You can ask for a replacement even if it's a perfect burger.

I'd do neither. I'd say, "Well just a second piece of cheese would be fine. Once the cheese sticks to the box it's impossible to get it off. Or else, yes, another one please." But they're probably not supposed to do that (open food they've already closed and take it back to the preparation area).

For a contrast, a few nights ago I ordered a frozen Fanta. I got a barely cold completely liquid Fanta. I went back in, took the lid off, started to say sorry, I ordered a frozen fan… and the guy looked in it said, "Uh, yeah… that's definitely NOT frozen" and he checked the machine/s, realised most of them weren't working, and offered me the only one that was - a frozen Coke instead and changed it to a large.

Some managers… SHOULDN'T be. They just don't get that all we want is what we paid for without half of it missing or welded to the box. Them fixing it is just as small to us, as struggling to scrape if off the box is to him. Such people shouldn't be in a customer service job… they should be coding webpages alone in their bedroom with the curtains closed where they can't affect other people. He could work at Twitte… oh, wait a minute…

  • throw the pickles on the window, lol.
