64 Audio U12T IEM $2,399.20 Delivered @ Addicted to Audio

210

I was browsing Addicted to Audio's site for Black Friday deals and noticed they have backordered (Dec estimated delivery) U12T's for $600 off the normal $3000 retail price, I'm not sure when this began but this is the cheapest I've ever seen them by a considerable margain.

For people not really into IEM's - yes these are expensive, but they're a handmade niche product and widely regarded as one of the, if not THE, best earphones ever made, even over many considerably more expensive models in the rarefied atmosphere these things exist in.

I've owned at least a 100 IEMs over 20 years, and whilst not perfect, these are probably the most remarkable IEMs I've ever heard; the way they're able to present layering, depth and spatial cues and the accurate timbre and bass despite being an entirely balanced armature setup is incredible and not really like anything I've ever experienced in any other IEM - these kind of ruin the experience of listening to lesser earphones after experiencing them.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

peasant - I bought 365 - don't like the same pair touching my ears again once being used.

      • Thanks hoosier daddy, laughed 10x

      • This is the first time I see another hoosier in Oz. I literally got a tee with "Hoosier Daddy" printed when I left Bloomington.

When I came here you had 10 upvotes. I presume this is what you mean.

How much money I have burned for my audiophile desire … Nevertheless, great earphones!

    thanks got 10.0

    Sadly i only have $20 ears…

    • That's the beauty of these, you don't need to be an audiophile to 'get' these. There's little ambiguity in the experience - as long as you're able to get a seal, the first reaction of basically everybody I've seen that hear them is pretty much universally "oh, wow".

      You spelled "gladly" wrong

Fantastic IEMs, my favourite out of all the ones I've heard so far (a lot). Probably the best rounded IEM in the world, some other TOTL ones may beat it out in some areas (IER-Z1R, Elysian Annihilator/X, and the yet to be released Subtonic Storm) but for this price this is the best IEM around.

Would love to try these. I guess like just going for a spin in a Lamborghini. Just once in my life.

My old Ortofons still going work but need new tips.

  • Anyone compared these side-by-side to the MEST Mk2s? The MESTs are great all around IEMs but would love to hear the U12Ts in the flesh (sadly there are no proper audio stores in Brisbane to do so).

These only go up to 20 kHz, making all your Hi-Fi 44kHz and 96khz recordings wasted. If you own these there's no point encoding anything above 40kHz sample rate.

    • +4

Unless you're a cat, I don't think this should really concern you.

      • -2

It will concern anyone who listens to music sampled at 48kHz and 96kHz.

        • +6

Music sampled at 48khz can only contain frequencies up to 24khz, and 96khz up to 48khz.

You find me someone that can hear 24khz, then you've maybe found 1 in a milliion, you find me someone that can hear 48khz and you've found another species.

The whole high-res thing was based on some pretty questionable research out of Japan in the 90's that stated something-to-the-effect-of that although humans can't actually HEAR frequencies this high, certain brain scans indicated that they were somehow perceiving them and this had an effect on the overall enjoyment…or something… of the music.

This has been pretty widely discredited but…y'know…marketing.

@havequick: I think there's something to be said for how UHF sound would physically interact with the audible spectrum, and if the goal is to recreate a live performance, it's certainly a factor (albeit minor at best).

That being said, what you're typically seeing out of sample rates above 44kHz is an implementation that more easily avoids DAC roll-off or audible aliasing in a recording (48kHz), or additional effort to reduce aliasing when producing an analog signal output (88/96/176/192/etc kHz). That increased sample rate increases the processing being done, though obviously at the cost of latency (alongside the buffer size set).

Additionally, when recording at these higher sample rates for the practical purpose of being able to slow down the track, using these higher sample rates on your DAC allows you to not only record digital samples in the same manner with ease, but also to playback all of this audio without any artefacts in the output due to undersampling the signal.

Then there's the whole 16/24/32 bit debate, but there is something to be said for going beyond 16-bit for more detailed tracks with significant dynamic range or clear vocals that have a lot of character to them, and of course in the recording studio working at the 32-bit level again gives you more room to play with effects, this time without compromising dynamic range.

    • Oh…will not buy it then

  • I was in the new Richmond store Friday and picked up some lovely Focal Radiance. The new store is amazing, worth a visit to compare various products if unsure. I had a good listen to Radiance Vs LCD-XC.

Go hard or go home. Otherwise you spend just as much if not more buying crappy IEMs but never achieving bliss.

I used to spend $100-$150 for a pair of headphones (back when that was a good price) and they'd last a year before the cable failed.

Then I bought UM Miracles… and have just replaced the cable ($50 each). I still have them after 10 years (I posted the bargain here in 2011!). Life is better.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56766 <— I forgot how bad the experience with their promo was. I made it in via a waitlist.

  • Double You, Teee,Efffff @ price !

Need a matching T-shirt that says "My headphones cost more than your iPhone".

  • good👍

  • How’s this compare to unique melody mkii and monarch ii?

  • Tempting moments like these make me glad I already went down the Sony IE-Z1R OzB deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/501369

    • What an amazing deal such a shame I missed out on them

  • Is it wrong to consider speakers and headphones at this price but not IEMs? They must sound amazing though

    • +1

Speakers and hesdphones will absolutely outperform iems at this price. Its just that iems are portable

      • I guess so, but I feel you would need to listen to these in a very quiet place to hear everything. Guess iem requires less amp as well whereas headphones and speakers really need a good amp to shine?

        • +1

Yeah. Iems are portable and block out a certain amount of noise which make them very convenient.

And yes speakers need an additional cost of the amplifiers to be factored in, as well as possible room treatment in some cases.

Open back headphones don't need an absolute silent environment since the music will drown out the external sound to some degree but it can be annoying if you live next to a highway

          • +1

@zjz93: To spend this much you would want to listen to it in a near perfect environment! Not with a noisy background I assume!

  • For those who like more dynamic bass response also consider the Tia trio
