    Bloody cheap.

    Awesome value at this price

  • +6

Great price. Very heavy, but then camping is in tents…

Good alternative to renting in 2022.

    • +1

Thinking of this if push comes to shove. Lol 2022 has sucked.

  • +1

This is huge and weighed 30kg for people dont know..

    • Ouch

How can my wife carry this if she is small and weak

      • +4

get wife into heavy lifting or get another more muscular one.

      • You need to marry a rugby fullback

      • +2

Get a second, bigger, stronger wife to help the first?

    • +2

Quality…it is a big tent tbh and it really is solid quality. Comes in a bag which is like a soft suitcase with wheels.

  • +1

Have the 4 person version of this tent. It's great, but the blackout coating stuff does have a strong chemical/plastic smell.
If you're sensitive to that sort of thing it may be an issue but hasn't been a dealbreaker for us and the dark mornings have been nice.

    • +1

I have zero chemical / plastic smell.
Take yours back if it is faulty

      • Same here, no smell (aside from the usual fresh plasticy smell, but that goes after a good airing).

  • no…. paid $599 same shop same code last week….

  • +4

I have the same tent. It's great especially for this price!

    • +1

Same - not the black out though, had it for ten years at least and its still in great condition!

I just pulled the trigger and it said 9 available before I purchased one

  • +5

10 person. So really, 5 person.

    • +1

I trust you're being cheeky, but I own it- it could VERY comfortably do six if you do two people per 'room', and reasonably do nine with three in each room.

      • Not being cheeky. It depends on your body size and the level of comfort that is acceptable to you and everyone else sharing the space with you. You may be fine with cramming 9 people in it, I'm not. I like my personal space not invaded. And I get that it's a tent, it's not about comfort, but hey, this is just me being me.

        • +2

Well surely suggesting 5 people across three different rooms is pretty hyperbolic! Regardless, as someone who actually owns the tent, six is super roomy, nine would be reasonable.

  • +2

Bought the exact same tent except in 8 person a couple of days ago. Hasn't arrived yet. With the blkfri coupon it came down to $468, which i also thought was a bargain 😉

    • +2

Great price - I was happy getting the 8P for $499!

  • +5

I have this tent - be mindful its a heavy sucker @ 30kg.

Goes up reasonably quickly, in reality its a two person job but at a pinch you could do it with one.

One tip - throw away all the little metal pegs and get decent ones - i learned the hard way with the tent blowing over at 2am.

Lighting is great, connect a little USB Battery and you have room switches with lights….noice.

Bought the same tent 2 years ago for $900 so this is a steal.

    • Which pegs do you recommend?

      • depends on the ground … in certain grass/soil the stock pegs can be perfect .. in softer sand, then get sand pegs .. maybe you need x3 types … firm soil, soft soil, sand.

      • I just went some of the Oztrail Plastic Tent Peg Yellow 23cm ones, i also had some with jagged edges which wouldnt come out of the ground in a tornado - but anythings better than the little metal ones. Theyre fine for your ground sheet but buy something larger for the guy ropes.

      • +2

I'll jump in and recommend pegs that you can use a drill. Game changer.

        ie https://www.tentworld.com.au/buy-sale/oztrail-16-piece-screw…

        • +1

Yes I grabbed a set of drilling pegs from Bunnings which are free great

        • +1

I used these for the first time a couple of months back, they're brilliant. I'm getting another couple of packs for next time.

      • supapegs are amazing.

  • how do these compare to say like 2 of the cheap 3-4 person tents from Kmart ?

    • I have had a Kmart tent and it has leaked but YMMV

    • +2

All your bulk/weight is in one spot in the car instead of two. The actual tent will be of much higher quality (things like zips, insect mesh and seams). It's an instant up which means no threading of poles or anything like that, so way easier to set up.

I've done the classic cheap tent -> medium tent -> expensive tent route and I honestly wish I'd just skipped the cheap ones. They are basically throw away items and it sucks, both for the consumer and the environment.

    • If it means you can put your kids on the other side of the caravan park/ different suburb - then get two tents!

  • Now I am looking for a deal on 'Coleman UltraMesh Ground Sheet for Instant-Up 10-Person Northstar Tent'!

  • How is this conpared to the coleman traveller series?

    • I think the traveller series is towards the bottom. There is a Gold series, which is basically the same as this one in quality, then the silver….then traveller? I noticed Anaconda has a coleman darkroom to tent too, but its DEFINITELY not as good quality as this one or the Gold series.
But hey, its just a tent.

    Literally Tom's tent(Parks and Rec)

I've had an older (no internal lighting) version of this tent for years, we camp 3-4 times a year with it. Much better build than my first cheapy and stands up fine in heavy weather.
No chemical smell in mine (which someone mentioned). Have had to replace one of the poles but no other dramas.
I can put it up by myself but easier to take down with two - for the bit where you fold it and try to put it away and then unfold it and get the poles pointing the right way and then fold again.

Awnings are good as long as there isn't much wind but we don't tend to use them. It's a 3 room tent - kids in one end, all our gear in the middle room and us at the end.

  • what's a good 2 man (ie 3 man) car camping tent? I don't want one of those crappy disposable tents often seen at festivals etc that can't hold up for at least a few uses.

  • +2

We've had our older (no lighting version) for about 6 years now and it's been great. Paid ~$800 and haven't ever regretted it. Probably averaged 3 trips per year in that time and the only thing that's gone wrong is one of the pole locking mechanisms has become a bit fiddly to unlock when packing up.

The weight wasn't as much of an issue provided there was two of us to lift it in and out of the car. Size-wise it was a snug fit across the width of the boot in our old car (2016 RAV4) which worked well.

We had 2 kids up one end, bags/clothes/stuff in the middle, and us in the other end. The darkness was an absolute godsend when the kids were really young as they would happily nap during the day

  • Do you mean one that fits on a car roof or a small tent.

A 3 man tent a mate has got is one of these - they look amazing but you might get a bit deflated by the price

"You got anymore of those microphones left…."

  • +6

Free tip - make sure you put down the awning in heavy rain. Don't ask me how I know.

  • +1

I'm getting frustrated just imagining trying to roll it up to fit into a 125x30x30 bag.

    • It's practically essential to buy an additional bag / canvas for tents these days lol. Saves a lot of swearing on pack up days.

    • +2

Unless the bag has changed recently its about the only tent ive got that isn't a nightmare to get bag into the carry bag!

  • Is this tent a good place to develop film?
