I always buy a few when such a great deal

The Marathon Spring rolls too but not on special as often as Chiko rolls unfortunately.

15 mins in the air fryer @ 200 degrees makes these a quick easy meal these days

Add sweet chilli sauce on the Chiko rolls and Light Soy Sauce on the Spring Rolls

The bad taste of this snack won’t last
        but bad guys do

        • Chicas are for fun mang

  • +19

Its okay as the air fryer makes them healthy

    • +10

      So does an oven.

    • +7

Speaking of which, i highly suggest giving it a miss if you plan to air fry. While most things are pretty good in an air fryer, chico rolls are surprisingly meh. I think it's the lack of infusion by dirty fish and chip shop oil.

      • +11

What you do is give it a slight spray of oil and then air-fry it for 14 minutes. Perfection.

        • +1

Really? I'll give that a shot.

          • +5

            @Ezuku: if frozen
220C in a fan forced oven
            15 mins each side

            no oil required…

        • +2

A Chiko connoisseur, just up a bit I read sweet chilli sauce - so many recipe ideas!

      • Agreed, they are so dry in an airfryer :(

        • Not what I find. You must be letting the oil that comes out of the pastry drain away. Cook on a flat tray so you don't miss out on the fat.

Personally, I'd rather drier and less fat.

Everytime this deal is posted then there is that same boring marketing copycat line included to mask of one of the most boring junk food ever. If someone taking this food as an Aussie icon then it goes to speak about true Aussie tastebud. Even the American spam can do better.

    • +13

You should have tasted them 40 years ago before they changed the recipe…

      • cloned rats now

    • Hmmm you're reminding me of my favourite food - the Cheese Sausage, gotta grab a box of them when I get my Chikos!!!

    • I recall chicken and prawn rolls had the best-tasting content - haven't seen those in a long time.

But I'd say chiko rolls meet their objective of having the best pastry

  • +8

I feel this is one of the foods that has aged badly over time. either the quality has gotten worse or my palate has changed a lot (or both).
the ol' chicken and corn that I used to eat in the tuckshop also didnt age well when i tried it a few years ago :( was so excited when I saw these in the supermarkets

    • I think your palate has changed. If you are the kind of person that is suddenly surprised that you can get Chiko Rolls at the supermarket then you aren't the person who is perusing the frozen food section of the supermarket often.

Like you are snooty. You've changed. That's okay. My mum has changed too and become snootier over the years.

Not me though. I have no class. Just Chiko Rolls.

      • i meant surprised by the chicken corn rolls in the supermarket haha.

i am a bit snooty, i opt for the herbert adams pies instead of the mrs macs (on sale ofc)

  • +22

I put Chiko Rolls up in the same realm as something like KFC. I occasionally get a craving for it and after consumption, am immediately reminded why I haven't had it for years.

Bargain here though. Might get a pack just so I can have my next decades worth handy.

    • +4

hot and spicy kfc is still the bomb though. original is pretty meh

      • +3

Hot and Spicy is a mere shadow of what it used to be

  • +3

I couldn't stand these as a kid. Years went past and tried them again as an adult recently and was surprised. They were a lot better than I remember. Still a long way from being my favourite snack, but at least edible.

Still prefer a Spring Roll by a long shot (just as long as it is the Chien Wah brand, not the Marathon).

  • +4

We get it, some of you don’t like the taste, but take your whinging elsewhere.

    • +4

And now you have just whinged about the one’s whinging…. That’s some loop lol.

  • Yeah nah…Whatever happened to chicken and corn rolls? Are they still around?

  • +1

These are pretty disgusting and yes, it was cooked properly as well.

  • -4

Just wrong on so many levels…

    • +4

But so right on many more.

  • +13

These taste like shit but I eat them because I'm an aussie scumbag.

  • +7

    Meat and vegies

questionable use of the word "meat", at 4%

    • +4

Thats the rats' lips and *rseholes. On my shopping list

      • +3

        the same as devon

        • +1

Slander! There are NO lips in devon

      • +3

…I just purchased the last 1kg bag of 'Tastycles' from the frozen aisle

  • +3

    Top shelf

  • +10

    Good girth on these.

    • +2

What are you using them for?

  • +19

I remember the tuckshop ladies microwaving these and they came out soggy and soft, just like my character when I became a grown man.

    • +8

      taking an L for ozbargain

  • -4

Haven't eaten these in years. Not since they became halal certified.

    • +3

Well then you're a bit of a fool, given Chiko Rolls aren't Halal Certified. If you disagree, you can call Simplot Australia (who make them) to confirm.

Has someone told you something along the lines of Halal Certification funds terrorism, or some other nonsense, and you've believed it and stopped eating Chiko Rolls? Dear, oh dear…

    • +4

Vegemite is halal. So is the vast majority of the meat you consume too. Even better is Golden Gaytimes are too.

So everyone can enjoy a vegemite sandwich at a barbie while having a gaytime.

      • -1

        Would prefer a vaginamite sandwich

    • You sure showed them. As a result of your brave stand, now there are only…1.95 billion adherents.

      Sorry, 1.96 billion.

      And now it's 1.97 billion.

  • +3

    There's meat in chico rolls?

    • +3

yes, I was surprised when I saw that in the ingredients as well. I thought they were all veg

  • +2

I thought they changed the name to Cheekies?

  • +1

Don't forget to throw 1 off these buggers in a fresh buttered long rolls and plenty of butter and salt 😋

    • -1

Ever tried adding honey to the roll?

    • +1

      throw 1 off

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

Chico Rolls and Dim Sims are the food of the gods.
    https://youtu.be/Fahf77qzEnE

    • +1

you'd get more than 1 upvote if i could ;)

    • Why does Bargearse sound like Albanese?!

      • Bargearse is Anthony's real father

    • Dim-Sims. Steamed or fried ?

      • Yes.

They look more appealing fried, but either way.

  • What's the best way to cook these in an air fryer?

Defrost in the microwave first and then 15 minutes at 180?

    • +6

Take them out of the air fryer and put it out for hard rubbish collection. Buy a deep fryer from a garage sale and load it up with either some cheap canola or even better beef lard. Get that temperature up nice and high and drop in a few Chiko’s. Pure indulgence.

      • +4

Or use oil still in the fryer from the previous owners

        • +3

          ^ This guy deep fries

    • Yes and give them a bit of a spray with canola oil. Not so long in the microwave that you dry the pastry and/or have it split.

The suggestion of a deep fryer with lard is the Rolls Royce option if you can do it. I have only done the microwave/air fryer as i don't have deep fryer etc not the intake of fried foods to make it worthwhile.

  • +3

Shocked that there's yet been no mention of CornJacks. Where's the love?

    • Chicken and Corn Rolls kill Corn Jacks … pity we can't get them in Qld

    • +1

      Corn Jacks are the best!

  • +1

    With chicken salt or GTFO.

  • +2

    Ingredients

Vegetables (31%) (cabbage, carrot, celery, onion,, green beans), wheat flour, water, cooked barley,(water, barley), beef (4%), canola oil, wheat, cereal, textured soy protein, salt, sugar, acidity regulators (450, sodium bicarbonate), hydrolysed

    • +1

4% beef! I always thought chiko rolls were cabbage and carrot.

      • Me too. I'm just relieved that it's beef and not "meat"

  • +1

Very yuck! Saw it and went right past it. Wanted Marathon Spring Rolls and there seem to be shortages of supply everywhere since can't be found nor can be seen anywhere.

    • I will eat either but also prefer spring. Not as aussie but

  • Doesn't show up on online pickup or delivery, but shows up in store on the app😔

  • I'm Vego, but occasionally I consider turning back for a Chiko.

  • Eewww

  • +3

These have a comically smalll amount of beef! 4%
Would not suprise me if that 4% is also 100% fat.

    • +2

      100% Kobe beef eye fillet…

  • "Wagga was the birthplace of the Chiko Roll. "
