    What fresh hell is this?

  • What are the chances of burn in on this in a few years?

    • Completely depends on the brightness you use and how static the content is. I would think using the auto-hide for the task bar would be a good idea on an OLED.

    • i have had a 4k oled thinkpad used almost everyday for 3 years, full brightness. left on for hours with a static screen no burn in. Only issue is battery. Oled Tvs get a lot brighter which is why they get burn in.

      • OLED TVs aren't as susceptible to burn in as you make out.

    • Dark themes, dark wallpapers.. it will help alot

    • Nowadays, alot less. Still can happen, but most newer oled panel do mini constant pixel changes to minimise burn ins.

Word is gonna refresh so hard baby

    • 120Hz is nice even for scrolling webpages.

  • I’m not sure about this model but the other ones I’ve seen had a pretty floppy trackpad, like it felt wobbly

  • Anyone know how much to upgrade RAM? Would it take 16GB stick? 28GB would be okay
    CPU looks powerful.

I just want a work/study laptop and also to do music production.

This CPU beats the 6800 in alot of tests!

I don't have Bitcoin tho, always something.

No import taxes? Can't remember last time I bought from the US over 1k.

Just grab one of those 16gb DDR4 SODIMM ram deals (check compatibility) for ~80$.

Seems that only BitPay is supported…

    • +3

It's 8GB of soldered RAM and one upgradeable SODIMM slot so you can only have 16GB, 24GB or 40GB of RAM.

The 12700H is not a magic bullet, it comes with severe thermal and power consumption downsides. I've had this CPU in two laptops now, an Alienware x14 with normal heatpipes and a XPS 17 with a huge vapour chamber. The 14" laptop struggled with it when the CPU boosts up to 115W temporarily, low sustained CPU clocks and high temps so I had to throttle the CPU to 45W max so the laptop was tolerable to use which comes with a performance hit. The XPS 17 does fine at 115W but it is a much larger laptop.

Battery life on both those laptops was around 6hrs (x14 with a 1080p 144hz display, 80wh battery and xps 17 with a 4k 60hz display, 97Wh battery) which is not great if portability was a major factor for you, considering what MacBooks can achieve with a CPU just as powerful. This OLED laptop gets about 6hrs of battery life too in testing. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/asus-vivobook-s-14x-…

      • Yeah, the M2 Air but it's limited by 8GB ram and it's $400-600 more.

I'd probably have this plugged in most the time, I'm not a uni student.

I may move it a bit, but mostly in my study.

Unfortunately, no idea how to pay lol

        • M1 + m2 uses SSD as extra ram so 8gb is fine for Most people

          • @ubcool: I agree, if I didn't want to do music production it would be the best option.

Unfortunately, running Logic and VSTS needs ram and Apple does this to force people to buy a level above I assume.

I have an m1 8 gb mini and a fully speced intel MBP from just before the M1 chips were released.

Unless your using big sample libraries the base model mac will crush music production. Basicaly it uses your hard drive as ram kind of like an overflow. I probably use an average amount of 12-16 ram in a session but you would never know because the 8gb works flawlesley and swap is so fast.

Its counter intuitive but it just works and is silent which is very important if your recording anything. On the flipside i would be very bery cautious with any intel laptop the current gen chips powerful but hot and noisey. My partners current high spec asus laptop with an i9 in it has massive throttling issues and the battery is brutal. The throttling is so (profanity) as well you cant really even do basic tasks when it happens. Might as well turn it off.

Base model macbook air all day in my opinion (and i dont really like macos).

          • @HulkBroden: People were using PC a decade ago with no issue, so I can't imagine current Intel or AMD having any issues with loads?

My old music PC ran a silent case, and I added a heat sink which I really didn't need so I've never actually run it off a laptop.

I was either going to keep the Microsoft Surface I bought, or buy a work laptop for under $1,000 and then spend $1,300 on a PC or I'm trying to find a laptop that can do both?

I was looking at the M2, the CPU who looks super powerful but the 8GB RAM just concerned me and honestly that is because I know nothing about Apple in general which is another issue for me 🤣

    • I'm not sure it's legal to seek payment only by BTC and not allow any other options.

      • They do

  • How about pay duties, taxes and charges at the border.

    • The Newegg site specifically says GST is included so that may be taken care of.

    • Included

    Oh man that's good specs

Do I return the surface laptop 4 R5/16gb/256gb machine and get this???

    • Por que no los dos.

      • No no lol I'd get a legion 7 slim if I was going to do that lol but Lenovo sales suck this time round 🥺

<insert buy all the things meme here>

  • Damn, thats amazign specs. Wish it came with a 6800HS instead of cucktel.

    • Intel beats it, but the AMD has benefits.

  • Great deal.

  • Promo code expired ? It’s $1341.75 without promo code .

  • 120Hz is still nice for much smoother mouse movement/window movement in general desktop use.

    Bitcoin payment required??? What?

  • Oh where the hell was this 2 months ago when I was in the market?

That's incredible pricing, and the 70wh would offset Intel xe + ddr5 battery drain.

  • coupon expired now $1341.75 which is still not a bad deal if its what you want.

  • The Coupon is still up, I just bought it. The BTC payment was a real pain. I didn't have a crypto wallet so I had to set one up, looked at buying some BTC with fees involved the rough extra would have been another $50 AUD on top of the real price.

Luckily a friend came in clutch and transferred me some BTC to buy it. It was much more work than anticipated but the price was too good to pass on. Total came out to be around $1070 AUD with BTC payment provided you ALREADY have BTC in your wallet.

    • do you know how Neweggs warranty works? do we have to return to US for repair/refund? Cheerz

      • That is a very good question that I did not stop to ask myself as I was working through the BTC madness 😅. I have no idea. I'll let you know in 6 months' time when my laptop craps itself.

    • I tried to transfer my BTC from Swifty to Bitpay to pay the newegg invoice, as it was never completed in 15 mins, resulted in failure. Now I have to argue with Bitpay to refund my BTC. Such a pain.

      • did you have to buy Dodge or XRP in order to pay ? or just transfer from AUD in Swift ?

      • Don't worry, I failed payment twice and still managed to get the discount and buy it. Just go to your Newegg orders and cancel it - the system will automatically process it in less than a minute.

Then you are free to reorder and use the Coupon. You can only use the coupon once, so you will have to cancel the first order and put the second one in.

But of course, make sure your Bitpay is ready to go even before you do the second order. Bitpay took 30 mins to formally receive my BTC transfer even if it shows up in your wallet it may be "unconfirmed" so make sure it's confirmed before you buy again.

        • It was not about the discount, but my invoice was expired and my retransfer of the BTC to BitPay is not even tracked in their system. I need to make a phone call sometime tonight to argue with it.

        • damn…I paid $1100 for this…:/ transferred bitcoin to bitpay and lost $12…hopefully, this laptop well worths my time

          • @BlackorRed: I was willing to pay $1120 if I bought Bitcoin from Simplex via Bitpay and didn't get a mate's help. For the specs that we are getting on this laptop this is still a killer price.

I had already bought a Dell Inspiron 5320 with a 1260p / 16GB / 512GB / 13.3" 2560 x 1600 IPS 300 nits on Ebay for $1130 just a few days ago and I thought that was a steal - for me, this Vivobook is a better purchase due to the OLED screen. The sacrifice will be the chunkier weight and the lower battery life.

The dream life is OLED with Ryzen 6800u or 6800H but they are rare and expensive to get into Australia.

            • @Jevansent: thanks mate, someone mentioned in previous Newegg post that Asus offers 2 years global warranty so not sure that is a fact…

            • @Jevansent: Yeah, probably 2k vs this 1.1m

Don't think that's worth double the price.

  • It's a shame about the payment system, I would of bought it.

Hopefully something similar turns up on Boxing Day.

  • Looks to be available again now.

    • Without extra discount tho.

  • +3

Just me, or does bitcoin payment only raise red flags?

    • Massive red flag.

      • It is just another form of payment. Maybe when you ask for a refund, ( tongue in cheek) it will be worth a lot more🙂

        • they only refund you gift card, not BTC
