For any aussies reading, a BTU is about the same as a kilojoule.
So this is 30Mj/hr in our language - a lot considering the biggest unflued gas heater is 25Mj.
Typical "wok burner" on kitchen cooktop is 10Mj/h.

Also 30kBTU/h is nearly 9 kW.

Similar without stand is $90 at Bunnings. So bargain??

Would this be a good wok burner?

    • Good for a very large wok maybe?? As above, normal wok burner is 1/2 to 1/3 that. Don't even think about using this indoors.

It's high powered compared to a domestic stove "wok burner". Those aren't really hot enough for proper wok cooking. Commercial wok burners are high pressure and have btu ratings above 100,000.

    • I'd expect a cast iron wok burner from an Asian kitchen supply would be cheaper. Mine was $70 some years ago.

      • currently $344, just to save people checking

        • Third party seller as it's currently OOS on Amazon US

  • I have a, COMPANION MEGA JET OUTDOOR POWER COOKER, works great and 85,300 BTU, The costs ~$100-120.

    • A genuine question.
This looks great can even do proper Asian stir fry but
do you think a BBQ side burner would be sufficient? For example occasional stir frying garlic onion etc for pasta sauce? Moved to a new place with ductless rangehood which is useless, I need to cook outdoor…
Just thinking having a BBQ would be handy.

    • Do you just put it on a regular table, and would you need to "heatproof" the table?

      • I just bought a heat mat from Bunnings and put on the table which has been fine and easy to wipe down.

I have a BBQ side burner and it doesn't do anywhere near as good a job as this for Asian stir fry, this was a game changer for me at a great price.

    • Thank you so much, I am getting this then.

  • For this who want the authentic char' flavour achieved by Thai and Chinese restaurants you'll need a high pressure wok burner. This unit is not "high pressure".

High pressure burners have a red regulator and are typically around 50mj.

I have the "Rambo" unit and it can turn a wok molten red in under 10 seconds .
