The only catch is that I haven't been able to find a way to see how you're tracking with your $100 spends. If you manufacture spend with gift cards you won't know it's worked until the end of the month when the status credits come in. So you either spend on GCs and don't get the credit or you still have to spend on regular groceries anyway at which point, why buy the gift cards.

In reality, assuming you spent typical $100-200, it's only a difference of 500-1000 points which isn't much in the scheme of things. Doesn't hurt of course, but it's not going to give any award of itself.
