Good prices on many of these routes, but Launceston - Bali for $921 (when Melb - Bali is $353) is putting the WTF back into IWTF.

    • +4

Haha - The Launceston flights (which are not on sale) slipped through - I have removed them. Thanks for letting me know

    • -2

But when I posted this exact deal yesterday, people said it was a "shit deal" and it got 2 upvotes: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/743821

But a day later and posted through an external flight provider, apparently the same sale is now a "good price" ay.

  • +20

(profanity) you JETSTAR. I booked my flight to Hawaii with the last deal. 3 times they completely changed the flights. I am not coming back 4 days early.

    DO NOT TRUST JETSTAR.

So they change the flights, and say tough shit, or you can get a refund. But if youve booked hotels, all over flights are now a lot more expensive to book, what can you do??

    • +5

That’s a royal piss take. My flights were also changed but by hours not days.

      • +5

Same.. and I am just going to Melbourne from Gold Coast.. have to wake up at 3am now

    • +3

This is the number one blocker for me booking with Jetstar. I have heard of too many people being left stranded last minute or having to completely change their holiday pans because of last minute changes with no solution provided by Jetstar.
It's a tempting deal, I am especially keen to travel to Japan now that their borders are open, but I think for peace of mind I will pay more for a seemingly more reliable airline.

    • +3

Not a fair neg, the prices constitute a good deal, it's unfortunate you had a bad experience but their OTP isn't that different from competitors. I believe it's worse for US carriers.

  • +4

my lesson is to buy travel insurance…

    • +5

      Does that cover jetstar (profanity)?

      • +3

Check they don't have a clause that excludes Jetstar.

        • +1

Serious question. Does travel insurance cover you for airline changes out of your control?

          • @hippyhippy: usually

          • +1

@hippyhippy: Many do, but often only if the change is greater than a certain period of time. Given the crap going on with our airlines though i think its worth it regardless as there are no shortage of horror story delays of days.

            • @sidoz: Does travel insurance by credit card cover this too?

              • @countmein: Only you can know by checking your PDS. But yes, depending on policy they can.

  • +1

Is Jetstar really that bad? I dont fly much and considering buying a few tickets to take the family

    • +4

Worst airline I’ve had experience with, and it seems to have gotten much worse since Covid.

    • +5

Booked a return trip to GC few months ago, they cancelled my first leg 12 hours before that, need to reroute to Brisbane and stay overnight, at least they did give me $150 back for the hotel…
Second leg of the trip was cancelled in the middle of the night when I supposed to fly at 9AM. Just speechless

    • +1

I refuse to used them mate, they nessed our last flights by 23 hrs…last minute.

      • +1

They canceled our Melb to Gold Coast back in Sept 1 hour after we had all checked in at the airport .. but they did reimburse for my hotel and meals and transportation

    • +2

Thanks for the feedback all, will give this a miss. The real LPT is always in the comments.

Which airlines are generally good value without all the headaches?

    • +1

It's in line with other budget airlines, you get a seat and everything else is extra. The drama with cancelled flights was a worldwide problem, Qantas prioritised staff for there own flights so Jetstar cancelled more flights regularly. Most of that has gone away now(last cancelled Sydney-Honolulu flight was 70 days ago (29-sep)) but do get travel Insurance.

    • Yes it really is. I am flying with them in January but only because I have a voucher to use due to them screwing me over last time. Don't fly with them unless you have no other options.

  • +9

Be warned, with the current AUD:USD exchange rate and the huge demand for travel to Hawaii from Americans, the prices for everything there are absolutely eye watering.

    • That's why you go to Japan and buy the currency right now

      • +1

        buy the currency right now

        that is speculating…

        • Not really.. the rates are at very high rates historically…

          • -1

@hippyhippy: "past performance may not be indicative of future results"

      • Do you mean buying yen.
Or going to Japan and convert to US?

        • +2

Just go to Japan. Jpy is very low atm. You'll get more for your money. June should be a great time, maybe a little warm.. not sure

  • +4

Jetstar…. yeh thats a HARD pass

    • +4

You'd be wise to. These guys wouldn't be able to even run a lemonade stall than an airline.

I managed to avoid them for a good part of a decade, but recently had to use them for a connecting flight (which came as a part of a package). Long story short, they charged me twice for being 1kg over their carry on limit and then was an hour late which made me miss the connecting flight. Didn't put me up in a hotel. Didn't put me onto a next flight. Just left me stranded at Sydney International overnight (even had to stand 4 hours in cold outside when the airport closed for cleaning). Called them and got the "we don't give two hoots" attitude. Now having to pursue a chargeback and refund through ACCC.

Avoid these clowns like your life depends on it.

      • Amen to that.

      • Jetstar = Mandatory Travel Insurance.

What happen to Brisbane ??? Why it doesn't get any of the sale ??? I thought we "won" the Olympics and now everyone is going to notice us !!! At least that's the propaganda I have been hearing….not ???!!!!

  • thanks OP! I can I add or change the search result from 1 adult to family? When I re-search using more family memebers in Jetty sites, it is not giving the same discounted prices

    • Same problem here. Not sure how to get same price for booking more than 1 ticket.

      • Same :( prices jump once I changed the search from 1 traveller to family

    • Hi - if the price is jumping up once you select several tickets, then I would guess that there are only 1-2 tickets available at the cheap price left for those dates.

      • even the new search on jetty is not bringing the same price. weired

        • It is another reason to avoid this shit airline.

  • Any companies that would price match this?

  • I’ve had Jetstar recently screw around all my flight times too :/ (though it seems like other airlines may be just as willing to do the same thing)

  • Make sure you take your marriage license with you to Bali, or you'll get locked up

  • You have to roll a dice and land a 6 to stay on your flight at the gate

  • OP, I think your description got you a win with this submission. Godspeed Iwantthatflight https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/743821

  • Tokyo in June is stinking hot. Hard pass.
I took 4 virgin flights this week and the common theme of the departure boards was multiple jetstar flight cancelled, and several delayed. Hoping they dont cancel any of our Feb jap flights.

  • +1

I’m extremely cheap. I will endure things I’m not happy to share with others to secure a bargain price. Even I will never fly Jetstar again. It is beyond bad. They really should go bankrupt. It would be well deserved.

  • Jetstar marketing team is selling illusion.

Please check latest reviews before you buy. You will be shocked.
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/jetstar

    • +1

Product review is just a collection of bad reviews. Nobody wants to spend his time to leave a good review. Only unhappy people leave reviews there. Check Qantas, it has 1.6 stars, Qatar Airways (best airline at the moment) - 1.6 stars. Singapore Airlines (in top 5 airlines in the world) - 2.5 stars.

Not advocating jetstar, just warning about productreview objectivity. Also, half of the comments are about charged money for checked in baggage or overweight carry on. Come on guys, it is a low coster, what did you expect? It is like going to MacDonalds and complaining that the cutlet is not from marbled beef.

But cancelled flights is unacceptable even for a low coster.

  • So many complains about Jetstar, but seems like all these rates are sold out already
