We have been running the latest Windows 8 Consumer Preview on our display machine and it performs very well compared to Windows 7 (which it ships with).

Start up time to Windows START (local login) page is around 17 seconds. Faster than Win7. So would recommend upgrading to Windows 8 when it is released.

    Only good points are: energy saving atom cpu (slow tho) & touch. The rest are outdated specs, but if you only use for basic tasks it will handle it fine.

    If you look around you will find netbooks with dual core atoms & overall better specs for ~$200-250 if you don't mind giving up larger lcd & touch input.

    For those thinking of trying/adapting to touch its a good unit.

    Did anybody take the Express Post option? It was a mere $180.90 shipping to my postcode! :p

    [edit] Hmm, normal shipping to me is ~$47, yet when I put the dimensions & weight into the Auspost parcel freight calculator it gives me a figure of $25.20…WTF??? That's without even considering the prepaid satchel for $14.50!

    Looking at the cart, I've now gotta wonder why Storm is allowing for 12kg for a 4.3kg item???

      Hi, we have to go by the cubic weight , not actual weight. (actually, whichever is greater). And by packaging size).
      Most couriers and Australia Post operate on this type of policy

          You'd be better off using an economical courier like 'Fastway', afaik a much cheaper option for heavier items.

      Nobody described it as a portable computer. It's really a desktop with the parts merged into the display case. Perhaps you're thinking of the association with the Asus EEE netbooks.

    It is a resistive single touch so finger nails or stylus helps, You tube playback will slide show at full screen, video playback at lower resolutions only but nice for straight web surfing.
    The touch screen s/ware seems to slow down the machine compared to same spec non touch screen machines.
