[PC] Free - AOMEI Backupper Pro, AOMEI FoneTool Pro, AOMEI MyRecover Pro and More @ AOMEI Software

801

AOMEI has made 21 of their products available for free over the next few weeks (9th Dec - 27th Dec). These are the full versions but I'm guessing there will be no support, no re-installations and only paid upgrades (based on prior offers). If you can live with those caveats, there might be something there to suit you. I already own a paid version of AOMEI Backupper Pro (which is very good), so there was nothing of interest to me.

Credit to Betanews.com for the details of this offer. According to them "In total there are 21 paid programs available to download for nothing. Just click the download button for a program and the installer will be saved to your system along with the license key you need to activate it."

Yes, they are likely a Chinese company, so if you have your concerns about the use of your data, then don't use the software.

Hopefully you will find something worthwhile. Enjoy!

Additional info… @nfr has provided the following additional info:
I downloaded the partition assistant. Message stated "Please hurry up and activate before December 28, 2022, after that the code will not be able to activate anymore." It is a 1-year code which entitles you to use it for free for one year.

Even more additional info… A couple of OzBargainer's have reported issues with AnyViewer (trouble with login/not getting verification code). Might be wise to give that one a miss.

I can't recommend one way or the other on AOMEI but can suggest Veeam free backup is worth a look if your need is bare metal backup (entire disk, not just drive the petition with drive C:) . There are other backup modes, as well. I also creates a rescue USB for you
    https://www.veeam.com/virtual-machine-backup-solution-free.h…

On the downside, it does take so tinkering to figure it out. For example full disk {bare metal} will run with incremental changes when scheduled. To work around that, I configured my backup to run only when the target is inserted and format that USB occasionally.

Veeam free backup is good I would +1 on that, AOMEI Backupper Pro is perfect for the typical home user as it does what it is intended for.

  • +5

Grabbed the partition assistant one as it's worked well for me in the past, cheers.

    • +2

yeah did the same, its a good one for when the windows one wont cut it

      • Diskpart is free…

        • +1

One of the Aomei software (i think it is the partition assistant) come with windows clone functionality, so you can change to any brand of SSD and not needing to care about if the SSD comes with windows migration tool.

  • Very similar to another deal. Probably the same company.

And yes, HUGE data privacy concerns. You are the product.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/742604

    • What real evidence do you have for saying it's probably the same company?

      • Because the products are quite similar between the two deals.

  • +4

    I downloaded the partition assistant.

    1. Please hurry up and activate before December 28, 2022, after that the code will not be able to activate anymore.
    2. It is a 1-year code which entitles you to use it for free for one year.
    • +1

Thanks for additional info. I'll add it to the post.

  • All software listed are downloading from aomeisoftware dot com, not sure if all those software are trojan or not.

    • +2

AOMEI have been around for many, many years. If you have concerns that they may contain malware then I would suggest you upload them to VirusTotal to be tested.

      • -2

VirusTotal is totally full of virus

      • +2

It's not just viruses or Trojans per se, but phoning home, collecting your data. Mind you, Microsoft, Apple, Google, even your TV does that now…

        • +2

Which is why I stated in the post that if you have concerns about your data being used then don't use the product.

        • Detonate it in windows sandbox and monitor its i/o if its a major concern.

  • With backup software like this, do you need the software that made the backup to view it?

    • +3

Most backup software requires the original program to restore. If you just want a program to automatically copy files from a particular folder to an external USB drive, then you might be better off with a file syncing program. I just checked with Gizmo's TechSupportAlert site, a great for reviews of the best free software (although some things get out of date occasionally) and he recommends FreeFileSync https://www.techsupportalert.com/freefilesync/

      • Brilliant - thankyou.

I do use the Gizmo site, but never realised what I wanted was a bit different to traditional backup software. Cheers.

        • +1

Just be careful with File sync software because if you have two-way syncing turned on and delete the files on your USB drive then the originals will be deleted as well.

          • +1

@cryptowiz: Even one way sync has issues - if you get hit with ransomware or file corruption, your now-broken files will happily overwrite the good versions on the destination drive ! This is why RAID1 is useless as a backup…

If you're going to do syncing, then make sure you keep the destination drive disconnected until you actually want to do a sync, and you have verified everything is good.

            • @Nom: Agree absolutely… and keep multiple copies. The old weekly, monthly and quarterly backup is what I used in the past.

      • Sorry, but I had a look at that site and, apart from a lot of 404 error missing pages, I think a lot of the information is quite out of date. Far better off looking at a site like https://alternativeto.net that is constantly updated by a myriad of people and where the public can vote on best alternatives and leave reviews and even disagree freely.

        • Hmmm… looks like some strange stuff has been going on. I knew things had been getting out-of-date in the last couple of years but I wasn't aware of the mass dead link issue (more recently I just Googled "Gizmo best CD ripper" or something to that effect). Having just read the "About Gizmo’s Best" page, I can understand why this has happened (you can read the background details here https://www.techsupportalert.com/about-gizmos-best/). A sad end to (what once was) a great site.

I agree that https://alternativeto.net is very good alternative, probably the only good one left.

I recommend Macrium Reflect (for backup). They still offer a free version as of now with v8 with a perpetual license.
    https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

    • +4

And if you like it you can usually buy the paid version for half price on Black Friday 👍

  • What is the best software for Data recovery? My old WD passport drive seems to be corrupt / missing partitions

    • +3

That's a tough question and likely to cause debates here on OzBargain. Personally, I use two paid programs… both were expensive. They are "EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard" and "Recover My Files". Those both do an excellent job. You can use the trial versions to see what it can restore before you lay down your hard-earned dosh. As it is an external drive you are looking to recover, you would be able to install these on your main drive without issue.

If you are after a totally free program (as a true OzBargainer should), then I would suggest "PhotoRec" by Christophe Grenier (who does great software). I've used it a lot myself (though not for a couple of years… damn you COVID pandemic), usually on computers of friends/family where software cannot be installed… you can run it as a portable file from a USB stick. It's not as slick as the paid programs but works fine. It can be found here https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec and a review by Bleeping Computer here https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/photorec/

Don't forget to restore the files to a different drive so you don't overwrite anything that might be corrupted or cross-linked.

      Hope this helps.

I've had good results with https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva in the past.

      Good luck 👌

      • I use Recuva for thew few times when I accidentally delete files. You need to use it ASAP or the files could get overwritten.

  • That's one year key, after one year you may required to pay to get your data back if currupted.

    • +1

Don't hold me to it but I believe you can restore using the free version of it (which is basically a cut-down version).

  • I don't worry too much about any privacy concerns, especially for an old company or brand. We don't have any privacy at all nowadays tbh, since our phones, laptops, and smart devices are connected to the internet every single day… We are "naked", that is the reality.

    • Agree entirely… I remember in the late 90's when Scott McNealy from Sun made the comment that "you have zero privacy anyway so get over it". I'm always amazed at people who put the most private of information out there on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for everyone to see, but that's probably because I'm ancient.

    • +1

I understand your point, but the logic is utterly wrong here. Just because you may have very little of something doesn't mean you should not strive to either preserve what you have, or attain more of it. Taking your logic and applying it to other areas illustrates the fallacy:

      • "We live as slaves nowadays, therefore, I don't worry too much about freedom."
      • "We are obese nowadays, therefore, I don't worry too much about seeking and consuming healthy food."
      • "We often lie nowadays, therefore, I don't worry too much about the truth."

Such an ethic or way of acting in life is not wise.

  • Wanted to try AnyViewer but couldn't even get past the log in stage. Wouldn't send me a verification code.

    Nuked it.

    • Thanks for the info… I added this info to the post.

  • Tried any viewer after registering nowhere to put in the code provided? Uninstalled.!

    • Thanks for the info… I added this info to the post.

not a free copy - they are predominantly 6-12mo trials

  • Thank OP. This deal is so easy to make use of. I just downloaded their Partition Assistant which was a zip file with the License key in a text file.

Guess that means I don't have to register an account, don't have to give them an email addresses, don't have to install the software before getting it for free. That's my kind of freebie.

I won't be installing it until I need it.

    • +1

I think you'll have to install it soon as, according to @nfr, there is a message saying "Please hurry up and activate before December 28, 2022, after that the code will not be able to activate anymore."

  • +1

Back when SSDs we're becoming mainstream, Backupper (free) was my go to for drive cloning from HDD to SSD. It was very good, but that was a long time ago.

  • +1

AOMEI is based in Hong Kong. I can vouch for their Partition Manager which helped me convert from GPT<>MBR format, wipe drives (by overwriting sectors so you other people can't recover them) as well as manage partitions (such as when you reuse a hard drive and there's the old recovery and reserved partitions which windows makes). I used the free version and didn't need the paid ones they are offering now.

  • +1

For backing up subsets of files instead of entire drives or images I like to use Syncback. The basic version is free. It is very sophisticated and can do things like one way mirroring, listing files to be deleted/replaced etc before you initiate the final operation.

  • Used their software to copy old system hard drive to bigger replacement. Worked perfectly.

  • Just note that it is 1 year License Key.

  • How do I get this for free

Do I click Get it now and download it?

It there any activation for the full version

    • +1

Yes, you click the "Get It Now" button and the installer will be saved to your system along with the license key you need to activate it. Make sure you activate it straight away and note (as others have already mentioned) that it is a one year license.
