Soft Serve Cone + Cadbury Flake $1 @ McDonald's

1241

At maccas with the kids and got a few cones, treated myself to a choccy cone with a flake and noticed it was $1 compared to 85c for the cones. Wasn't advertised in deals. Also note flakes seem smaller or maybe my fingers have gotten fatter.

Mod 19/12: Appears to exclude SA and TAS. Possibly other states. Available in NSW.

I must be old, the last time i bought a cone a maccas they were 30c and the cookies 50c

    • +20

      I still call them 30 cent cones… #ChangeMyMind

      • +2

One dollar stores aren't one dollar stores anymore. #inflation

        • Dollar shave club still have their cheapest blade… For a Dollar

          • +7

@jlv: If you're paying a dollar for a razor blade you need to jump off the multi-blade hype wagon and go back to your granddad's ways. Old fashioned double edged blades at about 30c each are great.

            • +3

@banana365: Twin blades are great. Triple blade problem is all the stuff gets stuck between the blades (making it harder to get out and dry out) therefore rust and corrosion creates a problem. Third blade benefits are marginal.

            • @banana365: If you mean those blades where you twist a locking ring on the razor handle to open flaps like the underside of a cargo plane… they're awful. I never got a close shave, you could still see obvious hairs all over my face, but especially where they don't all grow in the same direction, requiring multiple passes which hacked my face to pieces because the blades are too think to curve/bend leaving me bleeding everywhere, ruining shirt collars. I used to have to shave up to 2 hours before going out to ensure the blood flow had stopped. Apart from the blades being too thick to curve to the contour of your face, they don't make the edges sharp/thin enough anymore.

Now I just use electric clippers and leave a stubble. Who cares what everyone else thinks.

              • @[Deactivated]: This all depends on the razor handle, blades used, preparation, skin sensitivity, etc. What works for some people won't work for others, and that's fine. It can be a hassle finding the right combination. I've been tempted to switch to a Philips OneBlade for ~$55 though. It won't give you a super close shave, but it seems good enough for minimal effort

    • I thought the flake was also 30c back then too.

    • Feel old now too lol. Guess that probably was 20 years ago when u think of it

  • +5

It's been like this for a while now.

Bargain at 15c more for a 1/2 flake, but unfortunately as they leave all the flakes sitting in an open tray, sometimes they taste a bit dry and not so fresh.

    • +1

They kept these in the fridge

    • Yep, my local McDonalds keeps the flakes uncovered in the fridge (half covering food with plastic wrap does not count). This makes the chocolate taste like fridge. Two of my local bakers do this too.

It's been a while, but do love myself a good cone.

    • +7

That comment is enough justification for a strip search in NSW. Especially if you're a young female.

  • +4

They do chocolate flavoured ice cream?

    • +4

ye, i normally get 2, its prolly why icecreameries are dying, $2 of flake and softserver hits the spot on the cheap.

      • +4

You haven't been to the coast have you? Ice cream shops just need the sun to come out and they have a queue out the door

      • gelatos all the rage now, haven't you heard?

      • +3

They should be dying - $5+ for one scoop of ice cream is daylight robbery.

        • +1

$5? I paid $8 for a tiny scoop for the grandkids recently in the suburbs (Melbourne) and I tasted it, it was sh!te.

    • +2

Not all Maccas. My closest doesn’t, none in Perth city do either.

      • I can’t find any around Perth that do them.

Tuart hill and the new maccas in Baldivis that just opened.

          • @dafatha: yep. had one of the choc soft serves at tuart hill maccas (cnr wanneroo rd and morley dr) yesterday. Its ok, nothing special….not so sure what the hype is.

yeah but haven't been able to get one due to them always saying "not working" or "all gone"

    • +3

Yep, maccas stores with 2 or more ice cream machines now have the capacity to make chocolate ice cream.

      • Yum thanks for that, shows my local does, may need to go for a drive

      • @jdeals1 Is the chocolate one made of powder still (I worked there 15 years ago, then it was)?

        • +2

No, a new liquid soft serve was developed to make it easier to serve

      • if they work

    • +12

There’s a list of restaurant locations that have chocolate soft serve on the Maccas website

      • Oh wow. My local is actually listed….

      • Mine all three of my local ones are listed and none of them have chocolate ice cream :(

    • +1

Been available on and off in WA/TAS for years. Seems it's finally more widespread.

      • +1

Off for years in WA - they’ve only recently bought it back in WA. I remember having it as a teenager/young adult and I’m 48 now.

  • +1

holy wowsers this is a good deal as some places sell a soft serve cone for 80c a pop

    • We bought cones the other day were charged $1 per cone!!! No flake

  • +2

Mcdonald’s flakes taste like wax in comparison to an actual Cadbury flake.. tastes like the ingredients are modified to preserve them longer

    • +3

I think it’s just because it’s cold from the ice cream. But I agree.

    • +1

Even the Cadbury ones taste odd these days.

    • +1

Pretty much everything at McDonald’s is frozen; you’re really unlikely to get something that’s normally unfrozen tasting the same.

    • Back when I worked at maccas they were kept in the freezer. Might have made the texture shite

  • +1

Good luck getting this deal when their machines are broken 25/8

  • I haven't tried the new chocolate soft serve - what's the verdict, is it better than the original one??

    • +1

It's chocolate, it was nice. I miss the half and half though.

Like if u craving choc go choc. Vanilla still hits a spot as well. You can double up and get choc with an Oreo mcflurry

    • +2

I've specifically gone out of my way just to get these, they are divine. Real good taste! Got a bunch of friends to go one time and they all loved it!

To add, my least favourite flavour of icecream is usually (plain) chocolate - and if I like this, it's saying a lot

  • I liked their song in their Ads… I need a dollar dollar dollar's all I need.

  • The choc flake has suffered the shrinkflation

    • Big time.

  • +6

By utilising the kJ figure from the McD app (189 kJ) it appears that the piece of flake you get in the soft serve cone weighs approx 8.475 grams

    (189/2230)*100g

The 1st piece of flake is 15cents. So the cost per 100g equiv is ~$1.77/100g
Every extra piece after that is an extra 55cents, ~$6.49/100g

  • -6

This is not a deal has been this or cheaper for months. If not all of human history. Possibly all time high price.

    • +1

Then why is a soft serve with a flake $1.20 and a normal soft serve with one added $1.40?

  • Buy 2 cones & flakes for $2 instead of a $4+ McFlurry. Better value, same taste
