wow someone is still with optus? i thought all customers can break their contract, and everyone will just move. is not that hard to change provider anyway. why stay ? they are not the cheapest too, but the most vulnerable for hacker for sure

    • +4

whoever stayed already gave their details to nigerian prince 🤴 🤣🤣🤣

    • +41

what difference does it make now? the data is out, changing to another provider isn't going to get it back.

      • +16

to give them a lesson? i really want to see them go bankrupt without a single customer. then other providers will take this seriously.
we customer must act together and be one

        • +8

Yes. This is about accountability. Privacy is a serious matter. Businesses are entrusted with our data. They should not be flaunting it like optus treated it.

          • +2

@xoom: I dislike that they still call it an attack and similar language. If I leave my front door and garage door open during Christmas holidays, sure the opportunist crook shouldn't have taken my TV, but it wouldn't be a break and enter…

        • +6

If thats what you're hoping for, you might as well hope for a potion for eternal life.

          1. The assumption all customers can automatically cancel their contract isn't correct. Mobile service is one thing but device repayments need to be repaid regardless. So if you're on a device + service contract which would require you to pay out something now just to move to another provider for the same fees per month, you're probably not likely to terminate

          2. You learn pretty quickly that people go with their wallets, especially once the initial outrage dies down. The number of people who were signing up for the Pixel 7 + free Pixel 6A deal with Optus soon after the leak was massive. People don't like what happened, they'll voice their concerns but then if they can get a good deal, don't care enough about what happened to pass it up

Nike is a really good example of this in another industry. EVERYONE knows they aren't exactly ethical with the labour used to produce their shoes but every household would have a few pairs.

        • +2

I want the same to happen with Medibank!!!

          • +2

@montorola: Now Medibank.. didn't even give two hoots on their problem - which is worse than the Optus break in. They should REALLY be hit and penalised hard.

        • -2

Go right ahead , until the next great deal you can't say no to !
          In a word , pathetic…..

        • -1

I moved away from them because of this. They offered me a better deal but my mind was already made. (profanity)’em

        • Is this how they lure people to cover the cost of penalty by getting more guinea pigs?

        • +1

aha nice, let them go bankrupt and watch other carriers jack up their prices with leaa competition. Great outcome for everyone.. not

      • Data is out but might be shared with more Nigerian princes in the future

        • All to better the chances in getting a share of his wealth. Thats #winning in anyones books.

      • That's like saying you should stay in an abusive relationship because your partner paid for a "sorry campaign" afterwards.

    • +6

Called them after the hack and they gave 50% off as threatened to leave. ,So definitely the cheapest now as there retention team have got orders to just do what it takes to keep people.

      • They would have to be on a calling spree in an attempt to retain you as a customer.

The alternative is a huge financial loss to them day in day out.

      • I should do that too then, it wasn't straight forward even to get credit for equifax subscription. Still with them as contract doesn't end till next May but will give it a go to see if any luck (don't ask, don't get!)

      • 50% off for how long?

    • +9

Optus is hacked , Telstra is leaking , Vodafone still failing , we need Huawei to come and rescue oz phone network LOL 😂 🤪

      • +22

At least with Huawei you'd know upfront all your data was going to the Chinese government.

        • -2

Well , that's what western media told you

        • -3

LOL brain washed guys telling others are brain washed

    • Can’t just break contract like that without paying all the fees. It’ll affect credit score, and they may hire loan sharks to get back what you owe.

Maybe not soon but eventually, with highest interest rate on fees owed.

At least that’s what they said when I tried to break my contract prematurely.

      • they may hire loan sharks to get back what you owe.

        Hired goons

    • I am on prepaid, accumulated $450 dollars because I use it only to receive calls and stuck with them. If I leave I lose the credit

      • You need to hope for an issue where you are right and one that Optus refuse to fix. You agree that the issue can be resolved by a refund of your credit. You might need to go to the TIO. Worked for me.

    • +1

Yep I left. Never going back.

      • +1

        Which carrier?

        • Switched to Voda for home internet. It’s same price and faster than Optus was too.

    • At my place, I can't get service from Telstra or Vodafone. Heck, Telstra don't even recognise my street address. I tried ordering a prepaid SIM from them a short time ago and it was a gigantic (profanity). So yeah, where am I going to go?

    • Would have loved to. They wouldn’t let me out of paying for device repayments. It would have been more expensive (meaning giving them even more money) if I canceled and had to repay the device repayments (I’m on the free A8 tablet 12month deal).

  • +7

The data isn’t free.. your privacy is being sold

    • they were trolling when data breach. I hate their crisis PR and nope any apologies for consumers.

      • Pretty much like BP after an oil spill…
        “Oohps”

        • And bhp. Oh my bad.

    • "Was". Already past tense.

  • +69

    OPTUS, always giving away data!

    • I tip my hat to you

  • Thanks got it.

  • +1

Got on both post paid Optus one account and on my separate data sim that came with the galaxy tab a few months back.

Thanks for letting us know OP!

  • +1

Prepaid customers excluded … their privacy worth less to optus?

    • -3

You can’t have both inclusion and diversity if everybody is included. Thank you in advance for bringing the diversity

  • If you signup in the next 48hours you get a free data breach! Signup to their mailing list and your data goes on the black market

    • Bonus 50 GB of data with a side of identity theft. Bargain.

      • Bargain

  • -7

This is the real stolen generation

    • +3

      Try some respect.

    • +1

      Lmao

  • Optus is a "legend", When I bought their pre-paid sim and wanna activate at their store, their staff said "cant help" and u should do it urself.

    • +2

Lolwut? You're like throwing money their way but they are like. Nah we good.

    • Well you out the sim into your phone and then it activated itself…what help did you need?

  • Does it comes with any free upgrades to the DL or passport ?

  • 50GB per member is a lot of customer data.

    • +2

      It includes you browser history.

      /s

  • +8

All this whinging like any company cares about losing your data

    • +2

They may not care but they soon will care when their customers leave in droves.

    • +4

Well to be fair, maybe if people whinge and bully optus enough to severely affect their business, that might scare the other businesses into taking data security seriously.
Its a long shot but might be worth trying. Fun too.

      • +3

thats what i been trying to say… we stick together, do leave optus in one day. the whole australian. in one planned day (or week) we call it go from optus week.
        every single customers.
doesnt matter if you join again next month/week (if you really love optus or there is new good plan deal) - but at least at one point they see they are having zero customer (or couples), that will scare others

  • +1

If you've recently moved away from Optus, they will be contacting you as part of a winback or potential retention. If you talk to the rep, they are willing to go as low as unlimited calls & test, 200gb data for $30.00 (Probably customer tenure may play a part?)

    That said, not going back.

    • That’s even lower than I thought Optus could go. Anyway, for every big hack that we hear about, there are many, many smaller hacks that we don’t. You know what they say — lightning doesn’t strike twice, ‘yes’

    • +1

Do you have details on the $30 offer? Is it for 12 months only or something?

      • The rep said it would be a rolling offer, so I'm not sure exactly the terms. I wasn't interested and didn't really ask further questions. If you call them they'd probably have info on it, especially if you've recently cancelled or played the "I'm going to cancel" card.

  • I have the offer but for 12 months on my data sim (only service).

  • -1

bonus 50 data in exchange for people to get hacked and have there information posted online lol I no one learns it seems they still blindly fall for cheap deals.

    • because this is a good deal… (for optus and the hacker)

  • Have the offer.
My billing cycle starts tomorrow so will activate on new cycle

  • I have the data sim but cannot see the offer. Just wondering which tab you guys are seeing it?

    • +4

Tap on the service > add ons > data

      • thank you JordanM, i could see it,

  • +3

With the extra 50GB of data allowance, I can now download every Optus customer's personal data and not worry about going over my data allowance.

    Thanks Optus!

    • +1

See. Thay are thinking of their customers. You seen the highway robbery prices they charge for going over you cap?

  • +1

Do you need to cancel after the free 3 months or will it stop automatically?

I assume they are hoping people forget and let it roll over for some extra revenue.

    • Well if you stop it abruptly and customers still think they still have that extra 50GB. Can you imagine the bill in excess data?

Yes to add to your assumption. It will be a little from column A and a little from column B.

  • +2

Was able to add it to my $5/once-off data share SIM alongside the main plan lol

    Seems it's 50GB per line

    100GB extra for free

    • 5 x SIM's here, so extra 250gb

    • was able to add it to my $5/once-off data share SIM

Lucky you, shame you can't get these anymore.
      Unless you got it recently?

      • Well over 3 years ago, I can't change plans or I lose it. On $50/Mo for 80gb though, with 4Gb Roaming

        • I'm in the same boat. Got 3 extra sims, one of them runs my mum's internet. It would take a lot to make me move away from Optus considering the utility I get from these.

    • Legend! I have 2 of those so 150GB in total - the gift that keeps on giving :)

      • Best $5 I ever spent lol

Any luck getting more of these or is it extremely legacy now?

  • Get 50GB

    Lose your information

    What a brilliant deal lol

    • +1

      "lost" your info.

      • nobody losed anything
        they just shared it
well maybe optus losed their dignity but was their ever any to losed?

  • +2

my data is worth more than 50GB.. atleast 5000GB

  • -8

I downvote this because Optus’s customer service is crap regarding recent saga of data breach.

    • To be honest, for an Australian company, they actually communicated and reacted really well. Almost impressive when you compare to Medibank who acted as if nothing happened. It was just unfortunate for them as they had the misfortune to be the first one hacked, otherwise they could've hidden it under the rug like the other majors who got hacked.

I've been with them for over 6 years now and not planning on moving anywhere. They were also very generous with giving me a year of Prime last year as well as a free samsung tablet in April.

      • You meant the a8 tablet deal? Still paying monthly but for data..

  • -6

Why has this been upvoted so much? Optus doesn't care about your data security and they are trying to buy you (successfully) for 50gb.

  • +1

When I go to Services > Add-ons I only see International Talk & Text and Optus Sport?

    • +2

You need to click on "get more data" next to your data balance.

      • Quality Android app from Optus…I can click on add data and get to the Data Boost page but it just sits there on choose an amount with nothing loading and continue is greyed out.

        • Did you tick the box?

        • yeah MyOptus Android app is a POS too. for weeks it's been acting up, I login and it says I have no active services (or something along those lines). Using the help chat I've asked multiple different agents why - I just get told to use the website instead - which I've been doing, to manually pay the bill each month. Some of them will tell me to reinstall the app… yeah no that makes no difference.

I signed up for a new phone+plan recently and my order completed today, I notice I can now (sometimes) sign in, and see my current plan (5gb data sim) and the pending new plan. But most of the time the stupid thing will hang and get stuck on "logging in" or it will say "updating" and sit there doing nothing. but when it (rarely) finishes logging in, trying to navigate to various pages just gives me mostly blank pages or hangs like it's trying to load n never finishes. Trying to open help chat is just a half blank page.

I've reinstalled, cleared data and all the usual stuff but no use. fail

  • data nom nom

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
I have 1 tb of data that expires in three days.

  • Got it on both my prepaid. Will activate in new year as I don't have use yet. Does that mean I can pool an extra 100Gb for 3 months?

  • +1

Thanks, I don't use more than a fraction of my 30GB, so its great to now have 50GB more to not use.

Maybe I'll finally watch some netflix on the tram
