    Is this any good?

Check this out and make up your own mind:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9hXeCvotUs

It heats up in 3 seconds.

    • SHUT UP

      • nope…

    • It's useless without coffee beans

    • I've got one and rate it. Have gone from a $2k machine all in one that does milk etc and like this better.

    • I'm going to be the contrarian and state it's not worth it. I find the grinder to be extraordinarily inaccurate in dosage, which completely throws off the timing for each shot. So I have to use a scale every time.

Also I can have two measured doses, with same puck prep (I use a distributer / tamping disc, so same pressure every time), and they taste totally different. That's after doing two dummy pours to warm up the portafilter. No idea why.

It also stinks that the single dose is legitimately useless. You can only use the double shot effectively.

In hindsight I'd probably get the Bambino and a proper grinder.

Thanks, I'll save my money then…

  • Definitely helps to keep amazing gift cards on and for these deals!

  • Just purchased the stainless steel version from Good Guys $801 (10% sale ended yesterday sadly), paid with 15% gift card, and $70 store credit. $610 out of pocket click and collect.

This is a good price vs the $899 regular price, but might be worth trying to wait for another stack deal at good guys.

They price matched JB or vice versa: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/breville-the-barista-pro-…

Any way to stack another discount for Amazon or JB? Woolies gift cards tomorrow the only way?

    • +2

Discount JB 10% tomorrow from Woolies best way,.
15% Coles ended today unless you find one still open this late?
Better yet get good guys to price match and combine with gift cards, they have store credit bonus on top.

        Thank you both!
Bought from hifi, with the 10% off.

Missus started making frequent remarks about the need of an espresso mashine -> Christmas sorted!

          Awesome outcome mate!

I just got mine setup on the bench… Now for a trip to shop to buy some beans lol
You may wish to do the same otherwise you'll only be half a hero on Xmas day 😉

I'm using gift cards purchased with points from the current Citi Prestige credit card deal.

      • Very nice, love a Citi churn!

  • Ordered from JB HiFi as Amazon delivery had jumped to mid Jan instead of 15th December when I refreshed the page

  • This vs the dual boiler? Any thoughts?

    • -4

Dual Boiler - no grinder, no 3 second heating, older design, inferior display and UI.

      • +2

The grinder is not an advantage.
3 second warm up… Sure the Thermo coil is hot enough but the rest of the machine will be stone cold. Thermal stability will be awful.
Older design - I assume you mean the 2 independent PID controlled boilers combined with a PID controlled heated group?
Inferior display and UI… Umm ok, but all I want is to make coffee, not look at the screen.
How about 58mm basket vs 54mm basket?
How about stream volume and pressure?

      • grinder is below average at most (I've had the smart grinder and it was crap)

        Re: inferior display
I'll take a group head pressure guage + inferior ui as long as pid works properly any day compared to this.

    • +2

If you like good coffee, the dual boiler hands down.

    • +2

Good discussion but very varied views here

Dual boiler is undoubtedly a better machine, but costs more, needs a separate grinder, more bench space.
      Summarised as:
      Pro for average newbie
      Dual Boiler for enthusiast tinkerers

grinder on this isn't great compared to getting a serious standalone like a mignon. If you're serious about coffee, go with dual boiler and a separate grinder.
