      Sorry to piggyback

'Can only purchase with Australian Passport or Australian Drivers License. No other forms of ID, even International Passports'

      • Hi @HumbleCat, where did you see this?

        • Its when you start filling the form out. And when I contacted the support, they said I could use a friends or family Australian ID to order, which sounds very suspicious. I rather skip the deal entirely than do that.

          • @HumbleCat: Pretty sus.. should have given my old ID lol
Was easier when Coles had these on sale and just price beat at OW.
Then not risking tracking and waitin 75 days or whatever.

To save you all some time, here are some FAQs:

    Question Answer
    1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
    2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 30 January 2023
    3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage
    4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Oct 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
    5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
    6. It is showing ā€œnew customerā€ on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
    7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS, but canā€™t send outgoing
    • +4

This is awesome. Thank you :)

      • Can I sign my whole family up and get 4x cashbacks?

        • +2

Yes. Please read here re multiple SIM orders, and ensure all SIMs are activated within 30 days of ordering.

          • @tightarse: I've quickly trawled through all the comments, but can't see a definitive answer (but apologies if already answered).

Boost T&Cs state: "New customers only… Limit to one promotional item per customer".

Does that mean I have to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)?

Also, our current plans are with Telstra. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer" (as on the JB Hi-Fi Telstra plans, you apparently aren't eligible for their plans if you are an existing Boost customer and therefore already on the Telstra network).

    • what happens after the trial do you think? would we need to pay for 5G? i'm quite enjoying mine now, so I'm quite curious on the costs!

      • Yeah this would be an absolute dealbreaker for me considering going to Belong or Boost from Optus… If I lose 5G there is really really bad signal in the Canberra CBD (indoors mostly). Optus is at least decent either way…

    • Probably not an FAQ but does anyone know if boost customers can still participate in Telstra Plus?

Aka, can we still link a Boost prepaid account to a Telstra account? @boostmobileau

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/507507

Or is this no longer a thing?

Hope someone knows, as I'm about to jump from Telstra prepaid to boost. Thanks.

      • +2

I switched to boost from Telstra a few months ago and have retained access to Telstra plus. Not sure if youā€™d be able to register as a boost customer if not already registered?

        • +1

Excellent, thanks! that might be enough. Already using Plus (have about 20k pts) and hoping to at least not lose the points

          • +1

@nismo: Yeah I spent all my points before the move assuming Iā€™d lose access to them, regret that now! I mainly use it for cheap cinema tickets now :)

      • +1

Been with Boost for years now, was setting up user ID for first time in the app the other night so I could check past logs, and while I was not certain what it specifically was for, some Telstra Club thing option popped up for me to complete when i reinstalled the app (part of process was to delete old copy of app and reinstall). I ignored it assuming i would be able to later if need be

        So maybe

    • +2

Wonder what happens with 5g post Jan 2023. Wouldn't be surprised if Boost charge extra for this somehow, potentially a separate plan for 4g and 5g.

      • they extended the trial from end of Nov this year to Jan next year, they potentially would keep extend the "trial" for another time.

      • Well you paid for the 4g sim so if they didn't keep the 5G going for free you'd be back on 4G.
Mustn't cost them much to leave it on 5G so hopefully they do.
I also assume there would be a 5g range of sims as well.
but who really knows. I need one before end of jan anyway so not worth waiting too long to see.

      • Got this mail:

From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on the Boost Prepaid Mobile plan on your below service, and we'll be introducing capped download speeds on our 4G and 5G networks on most recharges.

        Here's what's changing:
ā€¢ 5G will be included as standard on the Boost Prepaid Mobile plan. To access 5G you need a compatible 5G device.
ā€¢ We are introducing capped download speeds to your 4G and 5G network access on most recharges.
ā€¢ These changes will come into effect the first time you recharge from 4 April 2023.
ā€¢ This change will not impact your voice and SMS.
What does my new capped download speed mean for me:
As all speed cap options are great for video streaming, browsing and social media, you should be able to continue doing what you usually do, and enjoy the same or similar mobile experience you do today. If you need to hot-spot multiple devices, or regularly transfer large files, you may benefit from uncapped download speeds.
Your new 5G enabled Boost Prepaid plan
Recharge Recharge Expiry Download speeds up to
        $5-$15 7 days 150Mbps
        $20-$40 28 days 150Mbps
        $50 28 days 250Mbps
        $70 28 days Uncapped
        $100 6 months 150Mbps
        $150-$300 12 months 150Mbps
Importantly the capped download speed on your recharge is the maximum potential download speed for included data. Typical speeds may often be slower and will vary due to factors including location, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination.
        What 's next?
You don't need to do a thing, and there's no change to your current recharge. Capped download speeds will take effect when you make your first recharge from 4 April 2023.

        • Same, the main takeaway is we still get 5g on the 4g Sim and You don't need to do a thing, and there's no change to your current recharge

    • Questions if anyone has answer:
      1. Who is considered as 'New customer'? I'm not with Boost at the moment, but used to be.
      2. What is 'additional Boost data'? No where in the product page specify that, it only says 140gb for new customer, so I'm not new customer I get nothing??
      3. What does it mean by 'first recharge'? Does that mean I will only get the 140GB after 12 months?
      4. Boost will not send simcard that already linked with a mobile number? ask because that was what Amaysim did, which means I cannot use my current number.

      • +2
        1. You are new - basically if you are porting from any other provider, you are 'new' (even if you have been with that other provider for 5 minutes)
        2. The standard $200 recharge is 130GB so your 'additional' data is the extra 10 - there's always some extra little bit for 'new customers' on top of the standard recharge, exactly how much varies.
The $300 recharge is currently 240GB vs 260GB for a 'new customer', it was 280GB when I joined mid-year.
        3. 'First Recharge' will not have the extra bonus 10GB or whatever - it'll be in 12 months (or if you burn through your data before then) and is currently $200 for 130GB (almost always better value to 'become' a new customer at that stage).
        4. When you activate the card - you can either get a new number or port your current one.
        • Came here to ask this same question. Thanks for the info @senorclean I used to be with Boost, now with Belong, so I assume I'll be a new customer but if the additional data doesn't add on till the end anyway doubt it will make a difference for me.

I'm not 100% the "new customer" data is 130GB though. When you click through to the critical summary on the offer page, it says 130GB. However, when you download the critical summary on the payment page, the downloaded document states the data for the 12 month $200 plan is 100GB

    • Bought this on 15/12. Existing boost customer, used live chat to activate and port my number. Everything went well with boost
But my cashrewards was showing click but didnt track, waited 7 days and reported. Got a reply asking if i activated it and if i used it as recharge

      This the reply i got
      "
Thank you for your response about your Boost Mobile purchase. I hope you are doing well.

Upon checking your response, I have noticed that you answered yes on question #3 indicating that your purchase was a recharge on a existing service. As per store special terms: Cashback is ineligible on prepaid phones, recharges, and any plans or products not specifically listed in the cashback table of rates. Due to this, your purchase is ineligible for cashback. I am unable to further investigate these claims.

Sorry that I could not provide better news for you. I recommend reviewing each storeā€™s special terms and familiarizing yourself with our General Cashback Guidelines when making future purchases to ensure you will receive rewards.

I hope this information helps. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions regarding this sale.

Thanks a lot for your understanding. Have a great day ahead.

      Sincerely,
      Paolo

Tldr: Just want to know if this is how it works or it was a mistake on their part?

      • +1

Mine tracked straight away after ordering the sim - so I don't think you have to activate for that part to work.
I find the CR app on the phone works the best, no chance of browser ad blockers and plugins ruining your tracking then.
Activating and porting to new card isn't the same as recharging.
Sounds like you need to put a claim in.

  • +2

@TA the subject says $40 cashback but the details say: "Click on this link for the $35 cashback offer @ Cashrewards"

    • +1

      Yep, fixed :)

  • +2

Awesome deal but i don't plan to reactivate within 30 days

    • +8

Thatā€™s a long time to go to sleep, even for a robot

      • +6

I am an old robot…. From the dial up days… I am glad to reboot at all

    • Deal says it's active until 3rd Jan. That might give u a little more leeway

Also.. Even if you don't need it yet, it may be worth calculation whether the savings is still worthwhile if u switch (or recharge) early and forfeit some of your prepaid period.

      • Just to clarify - this boost AND CR cashback deal won't run out until Jan 2nd/3rd? or is it subject to availability?

        • It's a good question and I'd like to get get clarity on that too. The deal post suggests this is a CR+Boost deal so I read it as the price posted is available until that date

          Perhaps @tightarse can clarify

          • +2

@SmiTTy: Hi. Unfortunately I can't speak on Boost's behalf and can't therefore guarantee stock levels etc. Please remember that the discounted SIM is offered by Boost and they also pay commission (via Cashrewards) for its purchase. Having said that, I can't imagine this won't run through until January 3, but Boost does also reserve the right to pull or change either offer at its discretion. I hope this helps :)

  • Can I port out from Boost to another Telco and come back within 30 days to activate this?

    • +11

Yes. Or ask a CSR to activate the new SIM and move your number across to the new account. Thatā€™s what I did last month.

      • Thanks will try that

      • +1

Did you do that via chat or had to call up?

        • +5

          Chat is fine.

          • @TheOneWhoKnocks: Thanks. Ordered… see how we go. Current boost plan expires in a few days.

        • +2

          I used chat

      • Sorry what is CSR

        • +2

I think it's Customer service rep.

      • +1

Or ask a CSR to activate the new SIM and move your number across to the new account.

Are you saying if I'm already with Boost I can get the CSR to transfer me to the new SIM without having to churn out?

        Thx

  • does the cash back apply for the 250GB plan? does international calls and SMS included?

  • can this boost sim can be used in a wifi dongle?

    • I want to know as well. In my case, a 4g mobile router

    • Yes it can! I have used mine with a Telstra 4GX MF910Y

      • Have you ever tried using that overseas with their local provider ?

        • No I haven't

    • Yes it can

  • -3

I wish Boost had a 12 month plan for low data users. 140GB is 10x too much.

    • +8

Itā€™s $10.83/month after cash back. How much cheaper do you want it?

      • -8

Yes, you're right, but it's the principle of the thing, dammit. I should be on $5 a month.

      • +3

        three fiddy

      • Free like the belong deal.

      • I miss belongs $10-15 plan tho…

        • +1

The $15 plan is still available after the 1st month.
Not sure why they try so hard to hide it.

          • @WatchNerd: Wtf, when I swapped with the telstra points $80 sim they only had the $25 plan minimum…

Ah, it's after the first month.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: Thanks mate, swapped to the $15 plan. šŸ‘

            • @Skinnerr: Isn't this deal still better than the Belong $15 plan? I'm on that plan right now, $15p/m for 5GB which rolls over unused data. Max in a 12m period is then 60GB for $180

              • @MR92: It is, I'm just using up my credit from the telstra points sim deal then will look for the next deal. With 2 telstra sims and the amaysim cashback deal, I haven't paid out of pocket all year.

Just hope there's another boost deal in 2 months.

      • +1

I have a $20 Woolworths sim which is on Telstra network too. It gives me 12gb data each month and 10% of a grocery bill each month. I normally have at least a $200+ purchase each month which makes the sim free

        • +1

Woolworths is on the Telstra Wholesale network. Boost is on the Telstra Retail network. But if the Wholesale network is enough for you then yes the Woolies deal is great.

        • I get that from woolies car insurance. Would be cool if you could stack them to have it twice a month tho.

          • @Skinnerr: I get it twice on two sim cards!

    • I only need 0.5Gb data per month for my mobile as I use NBN at home & work.

However when I travel, which is several times a year, I use my mobile to hotspot to my computer. The extra data allowance is fantastic and the data that isn't used gets rolled over into the next year. Great for that road trip around Oz.

      • +1

Or for data that you donā€™t want others finding out aboutā€¦

      • Boost data rollover only occurs on their 28 day expiry plans.

  • +2

Cheers to the tightest of arses! Merry Christmas all

    • +2

And to you and yours :)

Has anyone found boost internet network slow or no reception at times? I'm in Brisbane region.

    • South West Sydney - Have found it a step below being with Telstra, but still way better than Optus/Vodafone.

      • Network is the same (Boost-Tls). Must have been the diff between 5G (Tls) and 4G (Boost), which Boost is playing around with for pre-paid, for a short time initially.

All networks have black spots. Tls retail (inc Boost) has less than the competition overall but not everywhere.

    • I'm in Brisbane

insert generic comment about QLDers and their speed

  • +1

Are there any issues porting from an existing Telstra SIM or Telstra Wholesale (ALDI / Belong etc.) SIM?

    • Previous comments have suggested there's less complications if porting from a different network.

    • +1

Did this recently and had to talk to live chat. However, went through with no issues.

    • Never got to the bottom of it but I couldnt port from Optus to this. Have ported multiple times before with Circles, Voda, Aldi etc without any issues. Tried several times over a month, spoke to them etc but yea in the end they just refunded me with no explanation as to why I couldn't port over. I know there's a lot of praise for Boost but that experience didn't really make me want to try again.

    • +1

When I ported from belong to boost earlier this year , it took ages.
About a week and a half and was in limbo for that time (could receive but couldn't make outgoing calls / texts/data)

After several escalations and daily follow ups, someone was able to fix that. But it was the worst porting experience I ever had

I'd expect my case was the exception and not the norm (hopefully)…. Good luck

    • I went Telstra postpaid to Boost on the weekend. Had to use chat but was ā€˜portedā€™ in minutes

    • +1

a few years ago it also took weeks to for me to port to Boost. I remember making multiple calls but it didn't seem to speed up the process. It looks like a good deal but I'd rather pay more each month then to potentially deal with such a porting issue again. Just switch from optus to belong today and the porting process took 10 mins at 6pm

  • +1

Can I purchase 2 of these and still get $40 cash back X2 with the same Cashrewards account?

    • +1

Yes. However, please note dot points one & three of the terms in the OP as they are critical when ordering more than one SIM :)

      • Multiple SIM purchases need to be made as separate transactions. Adding more than one SIM to an order will result in an untracked purchase.
      • SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering.
      • You must return and click through Cashrewards for each new transaction.
  • +3

Does anyone have any idea when they will launch eSim? at the moment they dont and there has been news that its work in progress…but any tentative timeline?

    • Would like to know this too.

    • I read some public rep comment that it was ā€˜soonā€™. Maybe before EOFY?
