Fortis 2x40kg Smart Adjustable Dumbbells $259 ($249 with FIRST) + Delivery (e.g. $66.99 to SYD/MEL, $81.99 to BNE) @ Kogan

160

Basically this deal - but the shipping has come down HEAPS.

Previously
$180.99 TO 4000
$147.99 to 3000 / 2000

NOW
$81.99 TO 4000
$65.99 to 3000 /
$66.99 to 2000

Supports weights of 5kg - 40kg in increments.

I would recommend the $3.99 freight protection… there is no way you could reliably expect a normal courier to solo carry 40kg safely.

I remember Kogan selling these at $1200 during covid… the price kept on going up…

Oh and the 140l freezer for $1400…. bunch of scammers

    • +1

was it actually kogan, or a marketplace seller?

Though I wouldnt put it past kogan to take advantage of buyers.. unfortunately this IS the best pricing I can find from a relatively well known supplier.

      • +1

Oh this is a good deal. I +1 it, but I just am not a fan of Kogan because he for years was telling us how much of a scammer Gerry Harvey is, only to now make Gerry Harvey look like a saint compared to Kogans shenanigans.

He jacked the prices of stuff up to crazy levels and then would put a 'Don't pay $1499' on these dumbbells, like we ever would…

        • +1

haha i was working at HN at the time Kogan started up, and oh boy it was some good times.

Are these any good? is the locking mech etc solid? I think I remember a past deal of adjustable dumbbells and someone complaining

    • +2

I have the 2 x 24kg, if you dont drop them, smack them together, it shouldnt be a drama

      • would you be comfortable lifting them above your head?

        • I think it says not to lift above your head

        • +1

as long as it's locked in like daz says below, yeah I would be.
always inspect and check before attempting a heavy set.

fwiw I have maxed out my 24's already for chest press.
shoulder press I can only do 15's.

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Do they rattle much during use?

I've tried their 11kg adjustable which seem stable enough but are very rattly, but they're a very different design.

            • +1

@andresampras: Does have a click when you pick up at about 16kg mark and up I find but it’s definitely locked when I wiggle the plates

        • +1

I have 2x24 as well. Feels very solid to me and yes I am comfortable lifting above my head and chest press. Only issue is the dial jammed once. But it's an easy fix when that happened. So far, I'm really happy with it and highly rec to all my friends who are buying weights for home use.

        • I have the 40kg and I do lift them above my head for shoulder press (but not at 40kg).

I do watch them closely on the first set - they are a bit dodge and I don't trust them completely.

          • @Avatar: How do they lock in exactly? If the clip/locking mechanism was to fail somehow, is there a specific orientation you can hold it so that the weights don't automatically fall out?

Looking at the photos, the plates are a 'U' shape. I'm thinking maybe the risk can be mitigated if it were held so that the weight plates point downwards like an upside down 'U'.

            • +1

@keyman: @keyman I bought the 40kg pair for working out during lockdown, it is a little hard to explain but I'll do my best. Essentially each plate has a little knub in the middle and the plate "holders" on the dumbell itself each have a cutout. When you spin the weight-changing mechanism it will spin the holders as to either have it so that the cutout is in line with the knub such that it will not pick up the plate, or such that the cutout is not in line with the knub such that the knub will keep the plate in place.

Yes the plates are in a U shape and if you held the dumbell upside down and held it that way they should stay in place even if they were not properly engaged to begin with.

For what it's worth I have done multiple workouts benching with the 40kgs and never had any issues, although I handle them fairly carefully and have never dropped them for fear of breakage. Also the plates aren't that heavy - the biggest jump is 3kg meaning the heaviest plate is 1.5kg. Obviously not ideal if you drop it on yourself but don't think you would injure yourself that badly.

              • @searchingforabargain:

Also the plates aren't that heavy - the biggest jump is 3kg meaning the heaviest plate is 1.5kg.

Most of these (if not all?) 5-40kg adjustables are pretty much the same, they come with 2x 1kg, 2x 2.2kg, 2x 3.4kg 2x 4.4kg and 2x 6.5kg - going from 5-40kg using 1.5kg plates would mean you'd have essentially 12 on either side of the dumbell when using max weight, but you only have 5 on either side with these.

                i.e.
                18kg only uses 2x 6.5kg plates + the base 5kg, not ~9x 1.5kg + the base 5kg.
                40kg uses 2x 1kg 2x 2kg 2x 3.4kg 2x 4.4kg and 2x 6.5kg + the base 5kg, not ~24x 1.5kg plates.

You definitely have the chance of a plate much higher than 1.5kg hitting you if it were to some how come off while above your. Not saying it will, but just an FYI.

I bought a second hand pair of power trains 40kg (look and function I suspect very similar) and as long as you dont knock them together hard and make sure they are locked in before you lift no problems.

  • Delivery: $65.99

    Melb…

    • +1

I couldnt fit it in the title so I figured just put $66.99 to cover 3000/2000, the $1 difference wasn't going to matter I figured…

    • +1

To be fair they're pretty heavy.

      • They won't even deliver to the Gold Coast, but will to Bris ;.; it's just not fairs i tells ya :P

  • 6% off $100 gift cards at shopback so save a few more dollarbucks

  • $102 to WA, but still the cheapest option by far? Safe to bench with or risk of the weights falling out?

    • Don’t drop (put down gently)
      Don’t smack together
      Ensure locks are engaged
      Test before attempting set

  • All the covid nibbas that got for 500 600 lolol

    Jimothy Swoleingtons?

I have 2x40kg, I have no problem using them for chest and shoulder press.
There is often a click sound when you first lift it but I don't lift heavy, only tried 30kg for chest press and it was all good, but I wouldn't drop it.

  • Just checked my order history, paid $289 with Kogan First Trial in 26 June 2021.

    • yeah that was a period where it was practically free shipping. Ive been tracking the price on/off for the last 8 or so months and only now has postage dropped to a reasonable level.

      • Is there a 3Camel-like price tracking website for Kogan? Or you just manually checking from time to time.

        • +1

No, I do it the hard way - Literally get spammed by the ******n kogan app and marketing emails like minimum twice a week, every time it’s disappointment. Today was mildly surprising.

  • The delivery charge kill it for me.

    • +1

      Can you find cheaper?
I did buy a set but I’m sure it will be ok to cancel lol

  • thanks

Jimothy Wongingtons and other users discussed Kogan's adjustable dumbbells, which had recently decreased in price. They discussed whether the product was good quality, if it was safe to lift them above their head, and the delivery charge. Ultimately, they concluded that the deal was a good one and that the product was safe to use as long as the locks were engaged and it was not dropped.

Kogan recently had a deal on adjustable dumbbells, which were going up in price during the pandemic. Some people were wary due to Kogan's past practices, but Jimothy vouched for them, explaining that he had a pair and that as long as they were locked in properly and handled with care, they should be safe. Other people chimed in to confirm that they had the same pair and that they were comfortable lifting the weights above their heads. Jimothy Wongingtons then mentioned that delivery would cost $66.99, and someone mentioned that they got the same set for $289 with a Kogan First Trial. A user asked if there was a 3Camel-like price tracking website for Kogan and Jimothy Wongingtons replied that he just manually checks from time to time, and that today was a mild surprise. Finally, another user mentioned that the delivery charge kills the deal for them.

  • Thanks OP, i bought these pair and they arrived. I used them yesterday and they seem great with a decent locking mechanism.
I wasn't worried about lifting them above my head.

    • Same, got mine on Tuesday . Happy and can recommend.

Not sure what to do about the lubricant grease on them though… but heavy on my set

  • Definitely better now, $85 to SA.

    Quality looks horrible tho.

    Great to see they're okay.

Lots of gym equipment sales, expect huge drops.

During Covid people spent massive amounts basically clearing out a country of equipment.

    Used market is flooded.
