      Sorry for the stupid question… Does care refresh cover if the drone fell into the sea and I'm unable to retrieve it? Does this get covered under "flyaway"?

        Yep, but the excess for Flyaway is $345 (Flyaway covers situations where the aircraft can go missing and is unable to be retrieved), which at that point, you might want to cut your losses and put the $345 towards a brand new drone:

          How does this even make any sense? Then, you should not even buy the Refresh Kit in the first place.

          $119 (1-Year Refresh) + $345 (Replacement Fee) for a like-for-like replacement vs $1000+ for a brand new drone
          Would you still choose the latter option?

            @DoctorCalculon: Given the rate that DJI are releasing drones / tech (five Minis in three years), and that they are now unbundling drones and controllers and making them available to purchase separately and providing better compatibility, it can make a lot of sense.

            Eg: If you bought a Mini 2 at the start of the year, for $699 ($354 plus the $345 Flyaway excess, or potentially, $235 plus the $345 Flyaway excess plus $119 Refresh), you can get a brand new Mini 3, which has the following benefits over the Mini 2:

            • Larger sensor
            • Wider lens aperture
            • HDR video
            • True vertical shooting
            • Extra 40 degree gimbal tilt upwards
            • 25% longer flight time (65% with plus battery)
            • Compatible with new RC controller
            • Far quieter

      The plus gives you more flight time (around 40ish minutes) but puts your drone over the 250g weight limit which can restrict where you wanna fly

          Haven't tried as I use the fly more batteries. But if it detects you're in a restricted area, there'll be a pop up saying that and a tick box to verify that you're aware. It won't stop you from flying.

      Larger batteries in the plus bring it over the 249g weight which may be an issue in some jurisdictions

      Personally I’ve never run out of the 30min flight time and just bought a spare battery from kogan for $99 just in case

      Thanks all. For the standard flymore 30mins battery, how much actual flytime can be achieved realistically?
      Im wondering if the extra flight time is worth the hassle to get a license etc.

        Base package will come with a standard battery so you can fly closer to airports, grab a Plus Fly More for when you want to fly longer (the saying - you can never have too much fuel unless you're on fire). I personally don't know many areas within the prescribed distance of a controlled airport that are worth flying a drone near but YMMV.

        CASA currently have a Consultation open regarding BVLOS and drones that might be worth participating in.

      Not worth it, given the range you are better off just using the regular batteries and swapping them out. 30 minutes flight time should be plenty.

    My warning to everyone is to be very careful with the gimbal. Mine was only 10 days old when it fell 2m due to clipping a leaf. Fell straight down, small scuffs on props but no visible marks on the drone, camera or gimbal. I thought nothing of it.

    To my surprise the gimbal stopped working. Won't move at all when the drone initialises. Camera still works and zooms. No grit or damage or cracks in the gimbal arm. Drone can't fly.

    Long story short, the gimbal is very fragile. I can only assume it was knocked, but not hard enough to cause surface mark of any kind. I think they should have put little skids on the arms the gimbal attaches to, so that it can't impact directly on the ground. I assume this wasn't done to keep the weight at 249g.

    You can buy a 3rd party camera hood that adds skids (plus more) but I dont know if it works or affects flying. Certainly would make the drone >250g

        Do searches for "mini pro 3 camera hood" - lots of sellers of black and grey variant on amazon, eBay, aliexpress etc

        You can even by it from the DJI authorised retail store

        I also have no idea if it affects the performance of flight, so read some reviews and/or be very careful using it at first. My drone broke before mine arrived :-(
