Free Physical RFID Key Fob (for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, Payment Method & App Required) @ EVIE

1320

Just planning a road trip and doing my research, free fob ain't bad, didn't think about if there is poor reception. Better than the $10 chargefox fee, hopefully it comes, the address signup format is in US ZIP format on the app.

Update. Sends you an email confirmation.

The Evie Networks RFID card provides a convenient way for regular tap and charge access to Evie Networks charging stations. Please note that to successfully charge with an RFID card, you must have a valid payment method set up in your Evie account/profile. Also can be used to start sessions on some (not all) Chargefox units. Came in handy for one ac charger that wasn’t active on the app but could be started via the card

    • +1

Can you explain how it works on chargefox? I thought it wouldn't work as the billing systems are separate?

      • +1

The RFID cards are literally just a card number - there's nothing stored on the card itself.
When you link the card to your Evie (or Chargefox) account, you just type in the card number.

When you tap the card to the reader, it looks up the card number and what account it's registered to.

        • But presumably the card number is different for Evie and chargefox - would it store both? That's what confuses me. I mean, great if there's compatibility, but the previous come says it works only with some chargefox stations.

          • @gryphondarks: I think the ID numbers are slightly different IIRC - a Chargefox RFID card almost always works on an Evie charger (just enter your Chargefox card number into the Evie app), but the Chargefox chargers can be a little pickier.

        • But if you have an RFID linked to your chargefox account, then I assume a Evie RFID card can't be linked? (I have both in car for emergencies, if App doesn't work for whatever reason).

          • +1

@PleasureMachine: You can have multiple cards (or 'Key Fobs') linked to an account

            • @b3au: I see what is meant. The number from RFID card not matter the source, could be linked into the EVIE account.

              That's my take anyway.

  • Thanks for this. Had no idea it was free.

  • Thanks. That was easy and I ordered mine.

    If you're also wondering WTF?

It appears to be for some sort of EV car charging station network.

    • yeah think theyre currently running a promo for free charging atm

      edit: nvm the deal expired

      • +1

It wasn't a "promo". It was more a technical glitch that prevented them from billing customers. So instead of leaving their customers stranded, they decided to offer free charging while they sorted it out.

I thought this was Pokemon related

  • Thanks

Doesn’t work for me on iPhone app. It prompts for payment method after entering address and then there’s no next or submit button

    • I just used PayPal and they charged $0. Did not input what kind of ev I have either

      • So Paypal will be how they will bill you for future usage.

Im going to try signing up with a zero balance coles prepaid mastercard.

        • I think you can change afterwards and add a new form of payment.

    • Ok. It seems to be an issue on iPhone 11 Pro Max only. I was able to order it through wife’s iPhone 12 where the Pay button was visible.

App only works with BMW, Mercedes,Tesla,Audi, & Mini. I have a BYD it says it's currently not supported, pity always nice to have a back-Up

    • +1

Eh? They all use the same ccs2 connector. Just don’t specify a car or pick a different one…

      • -1

But The App Connects To Your Car & Says You Need To Authorize With Your Manufactures Account.

Then When That's Done It Tries To Connect To Your Car.

So It won't Let You Proceed Till You Have An Authorization Code From Your Car Manufacture

        • +19

I’m nOt SUre WHy yoU’RE using TiTle cAPITaliSAtiOn.

        • I think the manufacturer specific clauses are for discounted rates?

    • I can select Atto 3 on the Evie app. I can't remember though if I did this before or after registering my (free) RFID card - or if it matters what order these things happen in, but the BYD Atto 3 is definitely on the list of options.
Ans as pingponged said, they all use a CCS2 connector anyway, so it's not like you can't charge the car even if the model wasn't actually listed.

In response to your capitalised comment below, maybe you are confusing the BYD app (which you can't link your car to yet) with the Evie charging app?

    • On an unrelated note. How do you find your BYD? How long have you had it for and what did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

      • Had my Atto 3 for 4 weeks now, still getting used to all the options on the screen, apart from that it is an amazing car for what it costs. We paid for it with savings and a &18000 trade-in

  • -7

Just ordered. Thanks, but I don't own an EV.
If I ever decide to steal one I want to be prepared for the get away.

I thought this was a steam key

Let's spend millions of dollar on engineering and manufacturing to find out where Max lives!

        • +8

Aren’t most cars made in China?

Do you think American companies don’t mine your data? Lol

What do you think Google does with your data?

          You sound very ignorant.

          • +1

@wormarts: Aren’t most cars made in China?
No, Japan, Germany, Korea are some other big players you might want to consider

Google doesn't build a dystopian style social credit profile with the data they store. They also give you more control over it.

Creates new account to make dumb comments

          • -7

@huey: Glad to see all the CCP sympathisers coming here to make dumb comments and neg everything that doesn't paint china in a positive light.

        • +1

          Far worse options..

Try working on a Mercedes made in the USA… P.O.S.

          • -2

@tunzafun001: You would think that until you try reading that chinglish smart menu screen in your BYD car everyday.

        • Hey man, leave Tesla alone.

    EVIE

Thanks, I’ve let my hair hang down

    • +1

Before I know it I'm losing you

  • +3

Just to help manage your expectations, they send you a full size card (same as credit card etc) and not a key fob. I received mine about 4 weeks ago.

    • Just cut the CC, and keep the chip

  • -4

Evie has always been free (so was Chargefox until recently). Hardly a bargain

    • -1

Not sure why you think this - that’s completely false.

      • Because when I ordered mine months ago it was free

  • -2

Any way to sign up without downloading another friggin app?

  • I got one but it took a few weeks to come. Very handy at these charging stations. One Tesla pulled up before me an older gentleman and he was still fiddling with the app while I just swiped the card and went in the shopping centre

  • +5

I don't have an EV, can I still sign up? Being an OzBargainer, free is free.

    • +2

I have ordered mine. Now all I need is an electric car.

      • I for a ev recently with limited range , so I'm covered

    • +1

I’ve signed up to add it to my 30+ credit card/debit card collection. Don’t have an EV.

  • will this work for ice car at servo

    • +1

Yes. Connect to your 12V under your bonnet and report back.

  • -8

    Not a deal.
This is standard practice for most charge station operators…

Some will ship upon signup, some need to request specifically.

    • Chargefox charges $9.90 for their Rfid cards…

      • -2

        Chargepoint was free.
Pretty sure I got an Everty as well.

Also "free membership cards" is not a deal.

        • -1

          Pffft, says you.

  • -1

But will the 0$ price pay off your ev car, probably not.

  • +2

    Thanks, ordered one.
Will go nicely with my model 3 on the way thats FBT exempt, nice perk if you can get it 😃👍

    • +1

Same, now I just need to know about charging, where’s cheap and how to do it.

      • off peak at home or on solar will be cheapest. I plan just to drip feed for most day to day stuff and then leave with a full charge when travelling out of town for work. Plugshare and Abetter route planner are the go to. NRMA has selected free charging also.

        • I don’t have access to PowerPoint as I’m in a complex :(

    • Oh great overview video here by the way

Chargefox must have recently started charging for a RF card. I ordered mine about a year ago and it was free back then. Maybe one day we will have a universal RF/app system that will work on all charging platforms (like toll road tags) so we dont have to carry multiple RF cards and install multiple apps.

    • Yes. Evie has always been free, so was Chargefox until recently

  • Is the card locked to a particular VIN? I occasionally drive evaluation cars (think long term demonstrator) and it would be good if i could just charge whatever i have. Have been relying on free shopping centre chargers (although this is getting difficult now with uber drivers being there constantly) and charging myself at home

    • Just checked, I’ve entered the model into the app, but there’s no link to the VIN. I don’t have bundled charging from the dealer though.

    • +1

The card just starts the charging session and bills you. You can charge any car you like with it. If you had the right type 2 to USB C adaptor, you might even be able to fast charge your phone as well.

  • +1

Been using the cards for a while. So much quicker and convenient than having to fiddle with apps a such. I just keep the cards in the centre console and grab it out when I pull up. Pull out charge cord, connect to car, hold card against reader then go do whatever I was going to do for the 15 - 20 minutes it was going to charge for (usually try to time it with a toilet or meal stop on long trips).

  • Just to confirm its not the Evie Networks App but Evie Development app right ?

  • Never got my order.

    • Same here

      • Same here.

        • Same…

          • @davew0w: Same

            • @roonie: "We've been experiencing highly volumes of orders at the moment which has caused a backlog and delay for them to arrive, we will get this shipped out to you as soon as possible.

I have reviewed the status and wstill being processed.

If you do not receive it within the week, please put another order through the app"

  • Just got this yesterday, but it wasn’t in the mail.
Maybe it just left their warehouse

“Your key fob was shipped on

    2/2/23, 3:13 am

The key fob was shipped to:
    Name:…

    • I got the email yesterday as well and surprise surprise the RFID card was delivered today!
Still no sign of my BYD Atto 3 which was due Nov Dec though :(

      • I reordered yesterday as per help desk advice. I’ll see if I get two! (Does that mean I get them for half price?)

        • I reordered from the app when the original order didn't arrive so maybe I'll get 2 freebies for the price of one freebie, what a bargain!

          • @philo: I ordered 2 lots, 1 for my home address and one for my work both said it arrived the day above but nothing in the mail. I’m going to contact help desk about this

  • Had to reorder a couple of times vefore it went through.
Eventually got one delivered on the third go.
