Save over $1000 on The NEW 2.8GHz MacBook Pro! - Maxed out Specs

61

If you're a student, or you know a Student you can purchase a student membership to the apple developers connection for A$ 119.00 (GST inclusive):
http://store.apple.com/au/browse/adc

What most people dont know is that this membership entitles you to 1 heavily discounted life time purchase from the developers store:
http://store.apple.com/au_epp_55827

MacBook Pro, 15-inch, 2.8GHz, 4GB, 120GB SSD

-SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

-2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

-128GB Solid State Drive

-Accessory Kits

-Keyboard & User's Guide

-4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB

A$ 5,279.00 with GST (through normal apple store)

A$ 4,222.90 with GST (through developers connection)

= A$ 1056 Discount! (Thats without the 3% Buckscoop Cashback!)

Personally I would go the 320GB Serial ATA @ 7200 [Subtract A$ 575.30]

NOTE:
You can try printing out the quote and taking it to JB HiFi or Officeworks to see if they will match or beat the offer by 5%. I think it is unlikely but worth a try. Officeworks has been beating Catch of the Day's external hard drive prices by 5% (with a simple print out).

Remember if you depart the country within 30 days remember to claim back the gst through the tourist refund scheme (http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4646)

You can try using the developers store without being a member or a student but the purchase may not go through (see below).

Terms:
"Student Members may take advantage of a special, one-time hardware discount per lifetime (this benefit is non-renewable and subject to change). You must verify your student status and hold an active ADC Student Membership before ordering hardware. Orders will be cancelled if student status has not been verified"

(The biggest discount is with the MacBook Pro and the Air, and decreases for the MacBook. A discount also applies to things like the Time Capsule and other Mac products so it is best to buy all at once)

  • Good find. Thanks

  • You need to have a student ADC account, which costs US99 to sign-up. Still works out to be cheaper though.

  • Most items no cheaper than using the normal EDU discount.

  • This ADC offer started from a long long time ago………
Yes it can work and people can get discount for even iPod
but sorry, i vote for the negative one

    • So you are saying it works and you will save money but you are voting negative?

    • I like your logic linuslv…

Positive input - no negative comments - an apology - and then a negative vote.

Geez - you would be a master debator!

  • Hi Guys,

Not sure if you are reading the whole post.

I show the cost for the ADC Account in AUD Dollars and mention the terms / requirements.

The EDU Discount works out to be extremely small (Apple has just lowered it). Compare the EDU discount for yourself, you will see a HUGE difference.
    - Same Specs as Above MacBook Pro A$ 4,830.00 GST Inclusive (WITH EDUCATION DISCOUNT)

Linuslv if you could advise why you voted negatively that would be great =) Thank you.

Guys Please Note with the 320GB Serial ATA @ 7200 instead of the SSD hard drive [Subtract A$ 575.30] I would recommend that over the SSD =)

  • Great tips in this post, Thanks A Lot!

  • Thanks for the great tip! I really don't get why people vote negative on this just because it wasn't new to them… How strange.

  • haha you and me both Castrom8 =)

  • Wait, I don't get it. How can you save $1000?

Here are the prices that I found for the 2.5GHz Pro:

    normally - 3,999
    education - 3,678
    your find - 3,198

That's around 800 bucks from the normal and 490 from the student discount, and we have to sign-up for a 199 membership which makes the savings 600 and 290 respectively. When I tried it with the macbook, I think it's better if we get it with the normal discount.

But, still a bargain. Nice find. :)

  • While its a bargain, what student has $4,000 to spend on a computer?

    • what student has $4,000 to spend on a computer?

Business school "students" studying MBA who turn up to classes in Beemer or Merc with full business suit. Especially those who need to leave early to have "meeting with clients"…

  • Hi Animasola,

It is a 2.8ghz as mentioned above with everything maxed out. And the membership is $119

    Neil, good point :)

But if you only want the basic model (lower specs) the savings are still substantial but the best savings are on the MacBook Pro and the Air (and all other hardware etc: Capsule). For the MacBook itself the discount is not as substantial.

Neil maybe we can pool our resources together and share 1 =)

Probably the parents fork out the money to buy the laptop for their kids who are students.

  • I want an Ipod Touch 2G 32Gb and the discount is from $549 to $493 but I have to pay $119.

Thing is you get Max OS X so could I Ebay it and come out on top? :)

Bit troublesome though since I don't have the cash for a Macbook right now.

Although I am interested in iPod and iPhone development.

Still I could get it later since it's lifetime discount.

  • Is this still valid?
At point of the checkout do they verify your student/adc membership?
