A price rise is not a good deal.

Edit: You have now acknowledged the previous cheaper deal, so kudos to you.

  • +6

Isnt 48 a little too big for monitor?

    • +2

      You simply sit further away.

      • +16

So why not just sit closer to a smaller monitor?

        • +6

          shush you

        • -2

          It's not the same.

        • +3

that makes way too much sense…

        • Can I get a 1 inch screen and sit 1 inch away?

Edit: I think I just invented VR

      • but how do you reach the keyboard and/or mouse?

        • +1

Obviously, you use a wireless gamepad with an on-screen keyboard.

        • +1

You position the keyboard and mouse closer to you.

    • -2

Size matters mate, don’t kid yourself.

    • -1

Even 32 inch can be abit too big.
      This is TV level.

    • +1

I use a 55 inch TV as my PC monitor 12 hours a day. Its perfectly fine if you sit at the right distance.

      • At what distance are you sitting? Do you mount it on a wall and keep the table a bit away from the wall?

        • I sit about 1.7M away.

      • I often wonder about doing that rater then multiple monitors

    • +2

The trick is to size the windows to a suitable size, not maximize. Big screen means more windows visible. This 48" would be rad if it was curved.

  • +2

Need 42 like the ASUS PG42UQ.. would buy

  • +4

It needs to be curved. I've had a 43" as my daily driver for about six years, going a bit bigger would just make small font text a little easier to read without having to worry about scaling. But the problem with any monitor of that sort of size at ~1m distance from your face is that the edges of the screen are around 50% further away from your eyes than the middle of the screen, which makes content at the edges difficult to see without moving your head (and maybe entire body) or moving the active content to the middle of the screen. It also causes an optical perception that the screen is convex, which takes a bit to get used to.

The perfect screen would be 45" OLED and curved, so the distance to your eyes at all points across its width are equal. Similar to the ridiculous Odyssey Ark, but smaller, OLED and 240Hz…

    • I mean there's one coming, but it's also 3440x1440 21:9 ultrawide, so the pixel density is as bad as a 27" FHD monitor.

I'd be more focused on the 27" QHD 240Hz LG WOLED panel and models using that.

      • LG have some 240Hz OLEDs, but I'm not interested - 4k or go home - I don't have an ultrawide because I want/need the vertical space… Actually the perfect monitor would be the vertical height of a 45", but 50% wider, for a total pixel count of 5,760 x 2,160. That would be freaken incredible! I'd pay $5k happily for that. But I know I'm dreaming, so I'll settle for the 45" curved 4k, that's at least relatively realistic (although I've been waiting years already and still nothing…)

        • I think you're making a better candidate for a microLED/QNED VR headset at that point, because it'll cost a hell of a lot less and complete the immersive experience.

That tech might hit market next year, if not the year after.

          • @jasswolf: Heh I work from home and need to be able to help my wife and get to the kids when required, just wearing headphones is out of the question a VR headset would probably get me divorced LOL.

            • @TrevorX: They'll all have passthrough cameras at that point, but it's not like the audio will block you from the outside world when you need to take them off! :P

But for day to day computing, yeah don't use a VR headset.

    • Have you seen that 55" curved monitor? Samsung if i remember correctly. Hoooweee!

      • Yes, it's the Odyssey Ark I mentioned in the first post. $4,500, only a VA panel not OLED, 165Hz not 240, the LED backlighting causes ghosting, and 55" is too big IMO. Plenty of reviewers agree, too - it's nice that a large format monitor is finally curved, but it gets too much wrong at a ridiculous price to make it anything more than a punchline IMO.

    • LG Flex OLED 42” would be perfect. A bit pricey for most but it bridges the gap of an excellent panel, fast refresh rate, and suited for gaming.

  • I've read that the auto dimming on this model is pretty bad, no way to enable uniform brightness like on the ASUS models

  • +1

Only 4 payouts on jobseeker to afford this, bargain!

    • If you're on jobseeker I would have thought you'd have far more important things to be spending your energy on…

      • I used to teach jobseekers, they don't (90% of those who reached that stage).

  • Where can I find a desk width enough for this?

  • +2

      • +1

        I have 50% one.
I want to buy TV, but I already have a90j, so my wife doesn't want it….

Bit shocked to see the FO48U wins in the rtings comparison whilst being almost half the price (I paid $1048 in may).

Even though it doesn’t have full chroma at 4k120 I’ve not noticed any limitation due to this while playing PS5 at least (COD 120 isn’t 4K I believe). I also use it for work via both USB C and HDMI, and the integrated Hub makes it super convenient to run Ethernet through to the USB C laptop.

Only thing is the FO48U’s USB C doesn’t provide enough juice to my laptop, so I have to plug the charger in in addition to the USB C cable.

Hang out for another deal of the FO48U if your looking for an 48” OLED work and play monitor I’d say.

  • Personally I'm holding out for the LG 45GR95QE. (45" Ultrawide OLED with 800R curve) - it's going to be expensive but it's the upgrade I've been waiting for.

    • Meh… 3440 x 1440 for a 45inch is terrible
