  • Been holding off getting this router due to the reported WAN speed issues etc. with gigabit

Firmware 388.2 brings VPN fusion and wireguard client/server to the table and I've seen a few more recent positive experiences with this router so I think this looks mature enough to give it a go

    • I recently got this router for 1000mbps fttp

Wifi definitely doesnt hit as close to ethernet but get over 800mbps on wifi?

Its strange ookla speedtest will max out always but telstra will sometimes be much lower

Trillion times better than the crappy NF20mesh i got sent from aussie bb

Couldnt even get over 300mbps and 5ghz network was dropping out from visible networks daily

      • I only got around 850mbit on ethernet with my RT-AX56U and I read heaps of reported issues with this GT-AX6000 getting full speed ~930mbit

I've been using the Technicolor Telstra gateway to get full ~930mbit whilst waiting for a better solution which hopefully will be this one!

Plus it's Amazon so it'll be delivered tomorrow!! and I've got no qualms returning after fiddling over Xmas :)

          https://www.speedtest.net/result/14108836787

This was a test just done via ethernet, my brother is gaming on ethernet now also

          • @BenTheBargainer2013: I hit that speed (and 930) recently with my AX86U. But the 5G network has been like a yoyo lately, up and down around 400 to 600 only.

            • @craving: Similar for my AX56U 400 to 600mbit over wifi 5 / AC

I think it's because of 2x2 and wifi 5 not being proper QAM / MIMO it's not as good as a 4 x 4 with multi stream wifi 6

So many cheap router deals lmao

  • Hmmm is this router worth it for the average user? I only game like 10 hours or so a week but do use tv and phones a lot. I am also moving into my new house in about a year and that will be a double story, is it worth the jump from my aussie BB supplied router?

    • +1

Only worth it if you use all the features that makes it triple the price of an ax56u otherwise no

    • I don't game, but I sure as hell have a lot of devices connected, thirty plus last count and increasing. Just ordered one, and this is a good price.

      • 30+?? Do you have a internet cafe?

        • +3

could be computers, phones, tablets, IoT devices like fans, lightbulbs, etc.

          • +1

@r0xz: You're on the money, a few echos, NVR, smart lights, computers/laptops, tablets, phones, an inverter, streaming device, xbox, playstation etc…etc…before you know it suddenly you need a top-spec router to keep them all running smoothly.

            • +1

@craving: Better off spreading the load unless all 30 devices are going to be in one room

They're likely to be scattered all over the mesh so better off with multiple cheaper routers than one big bang unless you can afford it and if you can afford it you're soon eyeing enterprise gear

              • +1

@s3n: Done that already, I'm so glad I picked Asus to replace the TP-Link I had previously and just realising the benefit now with the AiMesh. Currently using the AX86U as the primary and two nodes, going to upgrade to this and will replace one of the nodes with the 86U.
