Addit - I'm afraid I have no idea how good the dash cam actually is. I was on the lookout for a dashcam for the last 2 mths and as I was in no hurry; thus waiting till Boxing Day sales before pulling the trigger. The dashcm probably is not exactly "Value for Money", though read this before commenting.

Arguably the best dashcam on the market

    • +2

Looking at this or Viofo. Any reasons on why you believe this is worth the extra money? Thanks

      • Does Viofo have free cloud account upload?

        • Why do you need it?

          • @Snowy83: Cause a thief with a half a brain takes the dash cam & with it the evidence

      • +1

Had a viofo for years can't fault it… If I needed another dash cam I'd buy another viofo in a heartbeat

    • -3

Is it worth four times the price of the regular dash cams? The the Viofo ones have a clear pictures, even in low light.

    • -1

No longer the case now. Maybe in the past yes.

      • What is better?

    • +7

This is my understanding of Ozbargain 101.

Regarding comparison regarding the top of the range Blackvue vs the Viofo. My (limited) understanding of it is like analogy of cars - if all you want is to get from A to B, then all you need is a Toyota Corolla (for value for money and reliability) not a Mercedes AMG. To ask reasons why a Mercedes AMG is worth the extra money, and the typical ozbargain answer is "there is no reason". Of course, you could instead be the Westpac graduate that feels an 80k car is a "high yield investment" (I presume high yield is related to perceived social standing amongst peers), so therefore there is always people out there in the market who want the value the 80k car brings over the Corolla.

Regarding the BlackVue, the top of the line dashcam has a huge whopping price tag at RRP, and there is a small section of the market who is willing to pay for it (just like the 80k car). It's not often there is a drop of 25% of RRP (and indeed, SCA and Repco sales specifically excludes BlackVue), and now there is a further 10% off with eBay coupon and gift catd discount/cashback. That's a huge whopping discount to those who are thinking about getting the BlackVue for reasons other than value for money. Indeed, if your told the Westpac graduate analyst who was willing to throw 80k at a car that he can get it for 35% less, that would be bargain of the year for him and those who value the 80k cars.

TLDR: Ozbargain defines at least two types of bargains, those that are "Value for Money" bargains, and those that are priced well below market value for those that desire the product despite it not being value for money.

Indeed, the highest ever upvoted deal on ozbargain is the Tesla at 164k, approx 6x+ Toyota Corollas. I don't need to spend 164k too get from A to B, neither does most of Ozbargain; though most here believe 33% off RRP of a Tesla is the biggest bargain in the history of Ozbargain.

Thanks OP, i saw your comment on the Autobarn post. I already purchased thanks to you. I was going to get the 750x but after i saw a comparison video I decided that this was the one to get.

I might get my local autobarn to install it.

    • Have you had autobarn install a dashcam before? Wondering about their quality of work and approx. costs?

      • No idea, unfortunately to get the eBay "SNSDEC" code for $50 off there's no click and collect.

With my reading for installation in Sydney there is a bloke/company named "Bendas" that everyone gives fantastic feedback but costs heaps (my quote was $250 for a 2ch if you don't buy it off them). Alternatively there is a Peter from Airtasker which also has fantastic reviews, yet to ask for a quote.

    • +1

It's pretty straightforward to install/hardwire for most people so you can save some $$

  • What about IR version in DR900x?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325472291262?hash=item4bc7a909be…

    Is that good as well?

    • IR is worth it if you need clear incar footage , theft cases

    • +1

I think the IR is for Uber drivers/rideshare where you want to protect yourself, or truckies also to protect yourself. No idea how good it is.

  • This or DR750X-2CH-32-PLUS?

      • Doesn't X series have battery cut off built in?

        • -1

It will still drain the battery if you use the parking mode

          • @DanielYuuuu: It absolutely won't to the point you can't start it, I've had it in mine for over a year and it's never drained it, it shuts off when whatever low voltage you have set.

Tldr: the power magic is a waste of money and not needed at all.

            @brownsound

            • @aussiekid: Oh well, too late for me. Bought it using the $80 voucher from eBay Plus. The voucher won’t be refunded if I cancel the order.

              • +1

@DanielYuuuu: You should get longer parking mode with the external battery.

            • @aussiekid: So I shouldn't grab the power magic pro? My car battery should be alright?

              • @Daves88: Depends on how long you want parking mode to go do, how big your car battery is as some are very small, how charged up it is. If you set a lower cut off voltage to get longer parking mode, it can damage the battery by constantly going to low voltages or shorten its life. If you set it higher, then it shortens the length of park mode and might not be long enough for your liking.

  • Can't get any definitive answer, as to whether I can unplug my 750s-2ch Blackvue and upgrade to the 900x-2ch and save fitting time.
Use the new wiring and 750s-2ch in another car

    • +1

I think if you are satisfied with your 750 then no need to upgrade.

    • I'm pretty sure you can mate, I don't believe the cables are any different.

    • No, you can't. Power cable and the cable to rear camera are different. If you already have a PMP pro installed, you can still use that though.

      • Yes, already have PMP installed under dash.

Thanks, I'm short for time ATM and was hoping for a quick swap over.

  • Do I need anything extra if I have a hybrid? Looking at buying the 900x

    • Lol, no mate.

      • Haha cheers. Bought earlier

Toyota tried to upsell one when I bought my car and the pamphlet said I needed an extra backup battery. So just making sure.

        • With the X-series you don't need that extra expensive battery anymore, that was mainly for the old series. With the X-series you can set the low power shut off voltage on the camera in the settings, hardwire it in via your inside fuses with fuse taps. Plenty of wiring tutorials on YT.

    • Possibly. Some camera functions don't agree with hybrids but it varies between cars and cameras. Hybrids can have a smaller battery so you won't get long from parking mode which might be why Toyota suggested the battery backup. Think i have heard of the stop start causing issues in some cars.

      • Thanks mate.

Good thing I ordered the battery too!

  • +1

Thanks OP, was about to buy from Autobarn website for $621.75

  • Do these still have overheating issues?
I have an older Blackvue DR650S and always get the insert the SD card error regardless of compatible or original SD card or sometimes when overheating just solid light not recording.

    • +2

Nope, had an X-series for over a year no overheating issues.

  • What's the difference between using something like this or just a security can like one from wyze or reolink etc? I'm guessing stabilisation

  • +1

    Sold out/OOS this morning

  • +2

    Hey guys ..

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325472273116 <— back in stock .. there's more units available …

    • Thanks!
Also, eBay popped up a custom code that now gives $60 off, I got robbed $10 :(

      • That would be an eBay promo .. not one that we are running ..

I've just checked and we don't have any custom codes created :/

        • Yep, that's right, I was complaining about eBay not you guys :)

  • If there are any others you want me to look into .. please let me know

    • Do we need any further gear to make this run? like the power magic pro?

      For a 2021 Audi Q5 / 2022 VW Tiguan

      Cheers

      • the battery will allow you to keep it going while the car is off ….

if you don't care about that .. then you don't need the battery

        • Any chance you can put the roof rack kit on there please?

          https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Rhino-Racks/Vor…

          Nvm bought in store haha

          • @bugsbunny: Kits are harder …

Item: RCP70-BK RCP BASE KIT (X4) TO SUIT TOYOTA KLUGER Qty: x1
This isn't a regular item and stores need to order it in from warehouse … so you would need to talk to your local store about ordering this in.
Regular price: $129 … Boxing Day price: $96.75

The other items you require are:
            2 x Vortex bar: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325472269258
            Locking leg: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325472187874

Best I can do for you ….

        • Sweet

Did you guys stock bigger SD card models?

How much footage can be saved on 32gb?

          • @Daves88: From my reading, you can put after-market cards in.

          • @Daves88: You want one of these.

I bought a 128GB card for $48 two years ago.

Depends on your settings, but you can easily store a couple of days of footage.

        • Absolutely not true at all, had my X-series for a year and it records all motion when parked (hardwired of course). Unlike the older series, the X-series has inbuilt low voltage shut-off in the settings.

          • @aussiekid: How's the app? Just reading a fair few negative reviews? Cheers

            • +1

@Daves88: The app is fine, much better than other dashcam apps.

    • Hi there, I bought the dash cam from your eBay store. I was wondering if I’m eligible for a discount for the installation if I go to one of the Autobarn store?

      • You need to talk to the individual store about the costs etc. I can't provide them to you because there's multiple factors involved …

Will you get a discount? Probably not …. Labour costs for installation are always excluded from any sales.

  • @Deridas … can you change the subject to say + Delivery without a price please …

Some people will have different postage rates depending on where they live …

    • Done,
I think you can contact moderators/admin if you would like subject/titles changed, we're generally not online all the time.
Do tell your bosses a big thank you for this sale XD

      • I tried to report it .. but you only get 1 report per post .. and I had already used it to request that OOS be removed ..

Thanks for fixing it up :)

        • Oh, I see, I didn't realize there was such a limitation on Ozbargain.
On that note, are you actually a paid employee from Autobarn that is actually working on a public holiday to ensure we all get the best deals??

          • +2

@Deridas: Yes I am … I'm based out of head office from the eCommerce team …

Wasn't meant to be working today .. but yeah another team member couldn't do it so here I am! :)

And no I'm not getting paid extra for working a public holiday or the time I worked last night actioning moving orders around so they all get fulfilled.

Hope you all had a good Christmas though :)

            • @autobarn: Wow, hats off to Autobarn for having an eCommerce team that manages Ozbargain as well.

            • @autobarn: @autobarn Any chance you could add Tag Towbar kit SKU: T7H765 for the Isuzu and Mazda Folk?

              • +1

@Boulders: Just had a quick look .. I don't believe we carry that product …

I couldn't find it in the other system

            • @autobarn: Damn. Appreciate you having a look.

  • +1

    Hey guys

there are literally 2 units left …

So if you are sitting on the fence … now is the time to order.

    • None left…..

    • Just so happened to find some more units…right??

      • nahhhh the units definitely got ozbargained out .. haha

  • BlackVue DR900X-2CH-32 or the VIOFO Dual Dash Cam (A129PlusDuo)?

  • Did anyone get free eBay + delivery on these or is that a mistake in the ad?

    • +1

Oh no, you are correct, on my check it doesn't have free delivery with eBay Plus. I've taken it off the subject. Apologies.
      It's OOS though regardless. :(

  • @autobarn I did a booboo. I ordered a standard instead of this. Can you please check private messages please

    • haha too bad … not happening :p

    • @Boulders i seriously just pushed your order through to the store as per your request …

      i've cancelled it for ya

  • -5

    Price jacked again

    • Yep .. because it's the end of the Boxing Day sale …

It was a 2 day sale that we ran for Christmas + Boxing Day… which we actually started on Christmas Eve about 9pm as an early present for anyone who managed to look ;)

We sold 127 of these dash cams while the sale was on .. could have sold more if we didn't run out of stock .. lol

      • yes unfortunately I was late to the party and had to buy in-store and was unable to take advantage of the eBay $60 off voucher.

Are your stock levels on eBay separate from your in-store stock inventory?

        • Ebay would most likely be warehouse stock and not include store stock since you cant do click and collect via their ebay store.

          • @8azinga: eBay orders are routed through to stores and not a warehouse… so orders could be coming from all over the country ..

However I knew this product was popular and I was manually monitoring stock levels and then adjusting as required.. that's how I also made more stock available .. coz I added together a few stores ;)

we will be doing C&C soonish … we're just waiting for our vendor to fix our API code to connect into eBay

            • @autobarn: That's seems like a more complicated way to do it. The website currently shows about 20 stores just in NSW with stock for click and collect though even though it went OOS on ebay.
