Visited my local Big W today with the intention of laybying the 50" Sanyo TV deal but spotted this instead.

Not sure if it's all stores, but I checked the Big W site and the TV is still listed at the normal price of $378: http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/lcd-tv/bpnBIG…

Sign says no layby but staff said it was fine, so threw it on layby.

  • Pretty decent price

  • I didn't think it'd be full hd, but it is. Nice.

You may want to add that it is indeed full hd to the title.

    • cheers, done :)

I think CHA-CHING! sells it for me.

  • So Big W allow TVs to be put on layby now?

  • anyone have an experience or opinion on how this deal compares to the sanyo 50" one? obviously size is the main difference but in terms of value, electricity usage etc.

    thanks!

    • Quality looks fine to me. Power use is a little high and there's no games mode (important to me).

  • People still do layaway/laybuys these days… good price for what you get.

    • Big W had a restriction on layby - no TVs. Looks like they've lifted it.

      • +1

Yep, was lifted a while back. Go your hardest.

  • Checking Brisbane stock now. Stafford couldn't confirm the lower price and Chermside double-checked and said theirs were $378 and no mention anywhere of them coming down to $288. Maybe they don't know yet or maybe the Salisbury SA store is just overstocked. Dunno. I'll keep calling tho :)

City (MacArthur Central) store didn't know anything about the $288 special price either but the guy there told me that they're never told in advance that this stuff is about to be reduced nor does their computer system warn them of future price reductions either so there still may be hope.

  • Anyone confirm this deal at any stores in Brisbane or Gold Coast?

  • These AWA TVs usually have 3 years warranty also. So makes it a pretty good buy!

  • laybuying technology seems strange :/

prices almost always get beaten month-on-month

  • This is store specific only.

    WTF is with KACHING?

  • I bought one from Parabanks BigW as a bedroom tv. It's cheap for a reason. With no treble and full bass you still won't get much bass. The sound is very poor quality compared to the CRT it was replacing and our samsung lcd. The inbuilt tv tuner reception was worse than our standalone tuner so you need a good antenna depending on where you are. The screen quality seemed lower than the Sanyo LEDs which were about $100 more although this could have something to do with how they may have been set up in store. Colours were not very vivid even after tweeking the custom colour settings. If this is all you can afford on your budget then I guess it's better than nothing.

  • Looks like a Full HD Version of this DSE 37" that was sold last year bundled with an Xbox - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51762
From memory wasn't a bad unit, base is unusual (glass, very heavy/solid) and as mentioned sound quality and contrast ratio was quite average. Not much else at this size thats Full HD below $300 mind you at the moment.
