    • Can that 4% eBay or 15% eBay plus cashbacks be stacked with it as well?

    • +1

Thanks for this. Ordered one for $810.50.

  • We think ours is finally dying. Can't decide whether to pay and get it serviced or repaired or just buy another.

Or even see what people step up to for more money.

    • Depends on the age of the machine and the issue. Have you descaled it recently? If not maybe give that a try and see if it resolves the issue. What sought of beans do you use?

      • Getting close to 7 years I think probably. I've descaled it a few times but it always seems causes problems afterwards.

        • +1

7 years thats pretty good for these units .. If you are asking the question, you do not know or want to open up the machine in which case buy a new one.. there are better built not mass produced machines which can brew a better cuppa in the right hands arguably and last a lot longer but for home consumers wanting a coffee that beats the local cafe ..well post covid cannot go wrong with this price ..though I am sure you bought the brewer and a grinder for 400 7 years back :-D

          • @shaidas: Yeah hurts to pay more a lot later and get exactly the same item. Wouldn't be as bad if a new model had existed

            • @kulprit: I bought my second (old one is with the parents now) last year, its still the best machine in Australia to buy.

            • @kulprit: Yep I get that mate..Covid has pushed costs of any imported item through the roof..maybe in a few years it will come down again

        • Descaling by its nature dislodges scale and will make its way to the end of the line and may clog further down (ie in steamer wand or shower head). Just need to stick with it until the scale is dissolved. Doesnt need to be in any descale mode. Just get some through it and let it soak. But not overnight. Some cleaners are too harsh and will start corroding metal. But the reality is there are solenoid valves that get stuck very easily with a bit of scale, so definitely needs to be done regularly. Also assume you have removed the single screw under the group head and pulled the seal + cap out a few times and cleaned with a detergent cleaner? After 7 years, that would be filthy/ clogged.

    • Just went through similar, call breville and tell them whats wrong, they could well 'goodwill' repair it

I did mention that it hasn't lasted as long as someone would expect based on the price

They contacted the service centre for an assessment, then covered my repair so goodluck 👍

I figured it was worth the assessment fee to know whather to bin it or buy another (then they goodwilled it anyway)

      Worth a shot I say

    • How old is it?

Its probably an issue thats pretty easy to fix if you have any technical knowledge/experience.

its also worth calling up breville and seeing if it is convered by warranty

    • Sell it on fb with advertised issues, and get a new one.

7 years is a good run, plus you get residual value.

There a few different versions so they have some minor upgrades I think?

  • Great

  • I have one too, around 5 years old,.. starting to notice issues , was thinking may he be cheaper in the long run, buying new = warranty

  • How does this compare to the Breville Barista Touch?

    • +2

Each to its own. We have the Touch and a separate grinder, at some point was tempted to swap for a Dual Boiler. But decided not to because sometimes we have two different beans, so it's convenient to have two grinders.

Steam from the DB is more powerful, as you would expect from dedicated boilers (1 for brewing and 1 for steaming), probably only matters if you are into latte art and looking for consistent microfoam all the time.

In terms of brewing, the DB has a 58mm group head, which is advantageous over a 54mm one from the Touch. Pucks are larger and therefore shallower (about 15% larger and 15% thinner), so water can pass through large surface area quicker, and in theory less susceptible to channelling. But if you follow the recipe and do everything right, probably taste no different.

Go with the Touch if you want:

      • A build in grinder (smaller footprint).
      • Instant on without any preheat wait (ThermoJet heating system instead of boilers).
      • Touch operation without a steam toggle knob on the side.
      • To save drink settings (a somewhat gimmicky feature).
      • Automatic milk frothing (okay but not suitable for latte art, we froth manually).

Go with the DB if you don't care the above and want something technically more capable, especially if you like to fiddle with things, there are a number of customisations you can do with the DB (but voids warranty). Also there are more choices in accessories in 58mm size: tampers, baskets, screens, etc.

Being OZBargain, another important factor is: which one is on sale. :D

Once brought a "price difference" product from eBay to meet discount condition. At the time I didn't know what it is for, but I was looking for an eligible $1 item and that ticked the box.

Seller called a couple of weeks later asking what the dollar is for? I have forgotten about the threshold thing and had no idea what the guy was on about. After 5 minutes of explaining, it became clear that it was intended for delivery top up. He wanted to know what did I buy and what was pending delivery. :D

What was the neg about? Lacks sense of humour? :D

  • Finally decided to go ahead and the gift cards are gone. Oh well, will keep on going with the current machine.
