    Good for tv speakers?

    • -8

God no. GEt a sound bar

      • +4

For $60 though? They'll be better than your TV's speakers, and depends on your expectations, set-up, room size etc.
Worth a try, and you can return them to Amazon* if they're not what you want.
Then you can try to find a sound bar that sounds better for $60…
(*Amazon change of mind policy - return till end of Jan)

        • ** Read their change of mind policy. They have to be pretty much new in the box.

          • @Daabido: True. Hadn't realised the AU policy was different to the US and European policies, which is much more liberal.
I've been able to return items that haven't met expectations without any issue through chat though.
            But you're right :)

@Daabido: My experience is they give no shits at all. My refunds are done the moment it hits their returns centre it seems. Opened boxes, ripped packaging, used 3M adhesives etc.

        • +1

that was an excellent reasoned response.

I used 1280DBs which are very similar. Its noticeably better than the TV's built-in speakers and it's 1/10th the price of a soundbar so I think its fine. Of course its not as good as a decent soundbar system but you are getting what you pay for.

I used to build my own speakers, I’m not sure what the hype around sound bars is. They have small enclosure sizes so the resonant frequency is still quite high, which is what you also get from small bookshelf speakers. I suppose they use drivers that compensate with low resonant frequencies but bookshelf spk manufacturers do the same anyway. Either way you need a subwoofer to fill in the gap.

Sound bars just seem like a new product to sell by the audio manufacturers to keep revenue going.

          Aesthetic, convenience.

          Sonos range sound incredible.

        • you get lots of small speakers in a sound bar as they try to get generate “presence” which is hard out of 2x 4” woofers in the bookshelf speakers ….. but yeah, not much in the way of bass ….. only so much you can squeeze out of 4” drivers ……

    • +3

Way better than TV speakers, so why not. Also look great and small. A friend uses them for his apartment, looks great.

      • +3

        Your friend must be tiny.

These will be far better than any soundbar this price or double the price.

    good for electronic drum?

    • 808?

  • Good for DVD?

    • +10

      No. Only LaserDisc.

  • Good for pron audio?

    • +16

Yes, I use them all the time for the pronunciation audio.

The dialogue and sound effects are important!

        • A good script/dialogue is the key good movies.

          • @CJ31: We need few laughs now and then to release the tension

        • Good for learning new languages - the language of love

  • Anyone know the cable length between the speakers?

Have a projector next to my bed pointing at the ceiling above the bed, looking for a couple of speakers to put either side of the bed on the bed side tables to improve the sound, so the cable would need to be at least ~2 metres I'm guessing?

    TIA

  • Good for bicep curls?

    • +4

Soundbar probably better. Leaves you the option to add weight on the ends as you get those sick gainz bro

  • +1

hmm it is $89 now plus $9.69 delivery even with amazon prime

    • Prime means nothing when it’s not shipped by Amazon, which is what it is now that Amazon have sold out and it’s reverted to another seller.

So who bought these and didn't need them in true OB fashion?

    • +4

This whole buying shit you don’t need meme is played out. If it’s a joke, it’s not funny. If it’s serious, try to be more financially mature, especially considering how rough the economy is going to be in 2023.

      • +1

        Exactly my point…
Individuals spend their hard earned (or borrowed) cash on things they likely don't need in the OB environment, then when things get (inevitably) tough, they're the first one's up against the wall complaining they cant afford to pay their rent, mortgage, for groceries, whatever… Frivolous spending will eventually bite them for the economic reasons you speak of…

i think people are being unecessarily judgemental here

some of us probably drive cars we shouldnt or eat out when we shouldnt or buy something nicer to eat or snack on when we shouldnt

adults are free to make up their own minds

if a $60 speaker set breaks you then you got deeper issues

          • @tonyjzx: Nothing wrong with treating yourself for something you actually want. But that's different to constantly posting "brought this don't know why", "buy now, figure out what it is later" etc.

            • @PainToad: "But that's different to constantly posting "brought this don't know why", "buy now, figure out what it is later" etc."

Yeah I mean I always understood those comments as a ozbargain meme. Even then I think "buy now think later" was a Amazon AU deal only meme? Because of their Free change of mind returns.
Turns out that's not a thing anymore BTW now it only applies to items that specifically show "Free Returns". Like this item here https://www.amazon.com.au/G-Shock-Skeleton-Transparent-Watch…
I see it less often than not.

Personally I pass on way more purchases than I actually go through with. I thought most people here interested in saving money would do the same.
