Happy New Year all. Was looking into massage guns and found that the Theragun mini was cheaper than last it was posted. My physio uses Theragun as part of the treatment and personally I like the punchiness of the massage it gives

  • Who would spend that for a massage gun?

    • +3

try it on special places. Very goods

    • +1

Here's a plus from me for the neg. There's a lot of theragun fanbois here. Crazy to pay that price. Not sure why you would see a physio that uses a massage gun either. They are taking the easy way out. Also you can use a massage gun at home. Someone can do it on your back. Why pay for it.

  • +4

They're cheap crap, look at the tear downs, you're paying a lot for nothing.

    • +3

Maybe, but while this is pointed out each time a deal for one is posted, the alternatives suggested are never comparable.

Theraguns use percussion therapy, while cheaper options use vibration. They aren't the same at all. no matter how people might suggest otherwise. That isn't to say you might only want percussion and scorn vibration, but it is what it is. Anecdotally, I can get quite a good response from percussion, but vibration just tickles and makes me want to pee.

I'd welcome an alternative percussion gun that is either made to match the price, or is priced accordingly, though.

      • A quick web search reveals;

While vibration massage is an excellent scientifically proven therapy, to our knowledge there is no merit what so ever in driving the massager heads into muscles like mini jackhammers. https://www.drgraeme.com/articles/2021/06/percussion-massage…

Is there any scientific proof supporting the use of percussion massagers?

        • +6

science cannot explain everything bro. Like the creation of superman before we were born for example. Obviously its been proven as true but there's no science behind it

          LOL, I'm out.

        • to get orgy :)

      • Heaps of cheaper percussion guns available on amazon, eBay etc

        • I have the bigger model and nothing hits like it

        • Can you give an example, please? The ones I see are all vibration.

          • @Morien: Just search for percussion massager on any retail site. Many will show up

            • @Sammyboy: That’s the problem, right there.

I just searched it on Amazon, and not a single one that came up (at least the first page) was percussion. They were all vibration. And therein lies the issue.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions on whether it does anything, or whether it is worth the asking price, or whether a cheap gun such as the ones I just found are worth it, but the reality is that percussion and vibration are two different things.

Anecdotal or not. Beneficial or not. They feel different. You can strap a knife onto a Nintendo 64 rumble pack, but it isn’t going to saw through wood like a jigsaw.

If you want percussion your choices aren’t as great as people make it out to be. Cheapest percussion gun I’ve ever found is a Theragun on special.

              • @Morien: https://amzn.asia/d/9eI8EVX

This is a percussion gun and cheaper.

At the end of the day if you want deep, get a shockwave machine. But that will set you back a few 1000

Also this gun does up to 16mm https://amzn.asia/d/2SCUsXN

                • @Sammyboy: That looks like the first one that I bought, which definitely wasn’t percussion. But maybe it is and I’m just mixing up two different models. I guess when it comes down to it you can return them to Amazon if they aren’t good enough.

                  Thanks for the options.

                  • @Morien: Only way would be to open one up and see if it had a similar fly wheel design as a theragun rather than just a vibrating motor. I wonder if you found just a vibrating motor in one that claimed to be percussion, if you could return it to Amazon saying it wasn't what it claimed to be….

        • Tried one of those cheap ones a friend had on the weekend and compared it to my Theragun Pro, there's no comparison. The cheap one basically tickled while the Theragun really loosened up my neck and back.

I was really tempted to get one of these Mini's too as a portable solution, but sounds like they're not powerful enough to bother with.

      • Tear down the $200 theragun and there's $20 worth of components. Tear down the $100 generic and there's $2.00 of components.

  • These are a top 10 seller on ClubX.

    • too much porn hey ?

  • +2

I bought one of these from the shaver shop sale few months back and I already had the Theragun Pro. The mini is so friggen weak - even on the highest setting. My cat almost kneads me stronger than this thing.

Srs don't bother unless you specifically want a small portable one. It's a very bad choice if you're buying it as your first gun.

    Just some advice.

    • Sounds like this would be a better buy, then.

Theragun prime for an extra hundred.

  • This guy tears down one of the larger Theraguns

    Nothing special considering the price.

  • Ozito jigsaw with Foam ball from eBay 🥹
