Mislabeled stock may still exist. No bonus pts showing on the screen, no payment.

    • +3

Thanks for the reminder. @RichardL I'd suggest adding this warning to the deal description too, not everyone reads the comments (I wasn't aware of the mislabelled stock myself last time and got caught out).

  • +2

What's the MCC you can use for the bar & pub gc?

    • Would also like to know

      • Some people said you can use it for restaurant.. I don't think for fast food nor cafe

    • You can use them at some bottle shops too ;)

    • What does MCC mean?

      • +2

        Merchant Category Code.

It is a four-digit number that generally describes the type of business being carried out at a merchant, and it is standardised through ISO 18245.

The MCC is set by the payment provider of the merchant, and it is the number that TCN uses to determine whether your TCN Pamper or TCN Pub & Bar gift card can be used at a merchant you are at.

The reason the commenter asked their question was that the TCN gift card terms and conditions are quite vague as to what the permitted MCCs would be for the Pub & Bar gift card.

        • +1

Thanks for the info! I knew this type of thing existed but didn't know its name etc.

        • what would you think MCC or MCCs would be for the pub & bar?

          • @Poor Ass: At a minimum, I’d expect to see:

            • 5812: Eating Places, Restaurants

            • 5813: Bars, Cocktail Lounges, Discotheques, Nightclubs, and Taverns - Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages)

I’m not sure whether to expect to see 5814 (Fast Food Restaurants) or any random MCCs (e.g. 5499: Miscellaneous Food Stores). The reason I am unsure is that when someone else on OzBargain asked TCN what the MCCs were for the Pamper gift card, the list sent back by TCN was much longer than I would have guessed.

Maybe one of us (probably me) ought to contact TCN about this.

Shame can’t buy apple gift cards like
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/748819

    • go coles?

    • +1

You could always use the TCN Gift card to purchase Apple gift cards at JB Hi-Fi.

      • +2

That is assuming staff will let you do that.

        • True, but I’ve never had a problem myself and I don’t even hide the fact I’m paying with gift cards.

          • @VantageXL: Luckier than me, I guess.

There was the one time the JB Hi-Fi staff member demanded to see what kind of card I was wanting to use when I was purchasing a $100 Apple gift card, even though all I said was "card, please". (I was wanting to use my AMEX to take advantage of a cashback offer.) I strongly suspect they were trying to weed out people using TCN / Ultimate gift cards.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Back in the day JBHiFi charged a higher card surcharge for AMEX than other credit cards. The higher surcharge was applied manually at PoS. A couple of times I was asked what card I was using so they could apply the higher surcharge.

  • Max card denomination of $100 I take it? So max $100 value rewards points per member

    • +5

I have not seen Woolworths sell a $100 TCN GIFT gift card; only $30 and $50 denominations.

      • +1

$30 and $50 TCN GIFT (grey) card denominations is all I saw visiting two different Woolworths.

  • +3

Normally I'd jump on the deal. But with staff making up BS quantity limits, and EDR not rewarding points. It gets frustrating just to save a few bucks.

I still have 100k points that they have "forgotten" about. Tomorrow would make it the third time I've had to call to follow up on points that I have rightfully earned.

    • Should it show the amount of points earned in the current transaction upon paying? Like Neoika said, no points, no pay.

      • +4

There are two ways you should be able to verify you will automatically receive points for the transaction if you are using a self checkout:

        1. There should be a points counter towards the top right-hand corner of the self checkout screen. When you go to the payment screen, the counter should change to show the number of points you will earn in the transaction.

        2. If the number of points you earn in the transaction will take your account over 2000 (or a multiple of 2000), as soon as you go to the payment screen, there should be a pop-up message saying that you have saved $xx for Christmas / saved $xx off your next shop / earned xxxx Qantas points. You will need to tap OK to clear this message.

      • Unfortunately points for variable value is usually rewarded after purchase. Won't be making the same mistake next time.

  • +1

This is good but if it’s the same as last time coles will have 10-15% off next week (fingers crossed!)

    • Including eBay?

  • How do you use TCN Gift for eBay? Can you use it to buy eBay gift cards from ShopBack?

    • +5

You need to exchange part or the full balance of the TCN GIFT gift card for an eBay gift card through the TCN website.

      • Go to the webpage for the TCN GIFT gift card
      • Scroll down to the How To Use section
      • Enter the gift card number into the box and select Continue
      • Choose eBay from the dropdown list1
      • Click/tap on Proceed
      • Follow the subsequent steps to have the digital eBay gift card emailed to you.

      1. If you have a TCN TEEN gift card that is incorrectly labelled as a TCN GIFT gift card, the list of participating retailers shown will be for the TCN TEEN gift card, which means there is no way you can exchange your gift card for an eBay gift card through the website, and you will need to wrangle with TCN customer support and hope they understand the issue and send you an eBay gift card.

  • Haven't seen Spotify Card deals at Coles or Woolworths for a long time. My 18 months just ran out.

  • +1

Might want to check if these still have ebay, as i noticed recently the physical TCN Gift gift cards in woolies dont show ebay anymore on the list of participating retailers images on the cards. You wouldn't want to stock up on dud cards! Anyone can confirm? I know they def dont show ebay, but do they still convert?

    • +2

      https://thecardnetwork.com.au/products/the-gift-card

      https://card.gift/product/gift-card

Both list it, but no icon on the card. It is a covert way to direct customers to redeem at other retaliers as maybe 80% of the cards were redeemed for eBay in the past.

Here is the direct eBay Swap form

      https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/06c0a83d5f2d78782…

      • Wanted to check because if you drop a 1k or 2k could end up with garbage.

        • 8 giftcards per transaction limit on eBay applies. Woolies only has $30 and $50 stock as WM mentioned above.

          • @Neoika: Yeah, I buy heaps off ebay cos all the ex enterpise tech gear so overtime works out ;). Obviously max $400 per transaction using these gift cards, unless you got the 10% off from the other day giftz cards also.

    • +3

      Keep this in mind:

This Card is an eftpos prepaid gift card that can be used for electronic transactions, to purchase goods and services at participating retailers listed on The Card Network website.

The terms and conditions says nothing about participating retailer logos needing to be on the gift card packaging. This makes sense, considering how often participating retailers are added (and less often, removed) from the TCN gift card scheme.

If you look at the TCN GIFT gift card webpage (i.e. TCN's source of truth), it still lists eBay as a participating retailer.

      • If you actually input the TCN GIFT gift card number into the box on the TCN GIFT gift card webpage (and assuming you do not have a TCN TEEN gift card that is incorrectly labelled), you will see a dropdown list with eBay on it.
      • +1

Thanks @WookieMonster was checking because I noticed the change on the cards, last time I bought a heap they were labelled ebay.

        • I should mention that just because eBay is listed as a participating retailer today does not mean it will necessarily be listed as a participating retailer tomorrow.

At least three participating retailers left the TCN gift card scheme in 2022 (Buy Aussie Now, Diesel, Temple & Webster) and there was no announcement before or when it happened, so there is always a chance that eBay is removed on the TCN GIFT gift card webpage before this deal starts tomorrow.

      • +1

There is also a QR code on back of the printed card that the GC is affixed to that takes you to the TCN website. I scanned this before buying to ensure eBay is still listed as a participating retailer on TCNs website. Very handy.

  • Is there a list of participating locations for the The Bar & Pub Card? My local isn't sure if they accept them or how to go about being able to accept them. There is zero information on how/if you have to sign up to accept these cards.

    • +3

No, there is no list of participating locations for the TCN Pub & Bar gift card, because that is not how it works.

The TCN Pub & Bar gift card is a gift card that can only be used at merchants using specific Merchant Category Codes (MCCs). Merchants with those specific MCCs change all the time (i.e. participating locations are added and removed), so it makes no sense for TCN to even try and keep a list of participating locations, especially since the number of locations would be approaching 100,000 across Australia.

Have you actually tried using a TCN Pub & Bar gift card at your local? I wouldn't necessarily ask a merchant if they accept them, because I find some merchants don't like accept prepaid gift cards if they realise you are trying to use a prepaid gift card as a payment method. I even managed to have one restaurant automatically block prepaid EFTPOS gift cards on their EFTPOS terminal…

Btw, the gift card page I linked before (which is not the one linked in OP's description) tells how you to redeem the gift card at a merchant. The gift card works like any other magstripe card (i.e. swipe, select SAV, enter PIN and press Enter). You may need to ask the merchant where the magstripe reader is on their EFTPOS terminal, because some terminals hide them. For example:

      • If you visit a location using a Worldline Yomani EFTPOS terminal, the magstripe reader is to the right of the PIN pad (and on the opposite side to the NFC reader). Swipe the card from the screen towards the PIN pad, with the magstripe facing towards the bottom and pointing towards the NFC reader.

      • If you visit a location using a Worldline Yoximo EFTPOS terminal, the magstripe reader is to the right of the PIN pad. You will need to flip up the PIN pad shield, then insert the card into the slot on the right-hand side of the terminal (with the card's magstripe facing upwards), then swipe towards you.

  • Is it correct you can redeem maximum of 8 eBay gift cards in one transaction on eBay so maximum single purchase with these cards will be $400 ?

    • +1

You can use up to 8 GCs or 7 GCs plus one discount code. The maximum GC amount per order is $1,500 if you have GCs with larger amount.

    • +2

You can officially redeem a total of 8 codes in one eBay transaction. Codes include coupon codes issued by eBay, as well as eBay gift cards.

I have seen anecdotes on this site that you may be able to glitch the eBay checkout to accept 1x coupon + 8x gift cards (e.g. by trying multiple times to get the checkout to accept an 8th gift card), but I cannot guarantee that will work for you.

      • +2

Thanks I'll check if these GCs do come in $30 or $50 amounts only. If so not so handy as I am looking to spend on something over $1,000 & use an eBay code also

        • +1

Definitely only $30 and $50 for these. The Swap Celebration cards (which can be swapped for eBay) are much better as they do have a $100 denomination and can combine them into a larger gift card (there was at least one 10% off promo for them at Woolies last year).

  • +2

Can confirm ebay still works while not listed on cards picked up 10 XD

  • +2

Went to woolies to buy 10. Check out guy said he had to separate them into 2 transactions to avoid some sort of error. I asked if I'd still get points for both transactions, to which he replied yes. He was wrong. So, don't do this. Will have to contact them now.

    • Terms & conditions does state one transaction per day per Rewards Member.

    • +2

His advice is right before the T&Cs changed to one transaction per day. I scanned different EDRs for multiple transactions and checked the bonus pts on the screen every time.

  • Someone on the Qantas Points Collectors group bought 60x TCN Gift cards to buy a treadmill at Rebel.

    • +1

I hope for their sake that the checkout system instore at rebel can process that many TCN gift cards in a single transaction.

Considering that BCF can only handle 5 EFTPOS cards in one transaction and BCF is owned by the same company as rebel and probably uses a similar POS system, fingers cross they won’t run into any issues…

And yes, you could use multiple TCN gift cards to purchase a rebel gift card instore first to try to get around this, but I don’t know if there is a limit for rebel gift card redemptions instore.

      • +1

Already got a hiccup for swap some eBay and had to contact support, not even reached 10 in a 24 hrs period. Previously, I did not do more than 5 in a 24 hrs period. TCN is just flakier than Blackhawk.

      • +1

They said that they obtained the Rebel manager's permission before buying them but you could very well be right.

  • just want to double check the points value..

    if I buy $500 worth of TCN Gift, I will get 20 x 500 = 10k rewards point?
    According to this website, https://www.pointhacks.com.au/rewards-points-valuations , 1 point = 0.8c
    So, 10k pts = 8k cents = $80

    $80/$500 = 16% discount (?)

Is my maths correct here? In the description, it says it's like 10% off but based on the above calc, more like 16% off?
Not too familiar on Everyday Rewards..

btw, is $50 max denomination for TCN Gift?

    • In the description, it says it's like 10% off but based on the above calc, more like 16% off?

That based on Everyday Rewards Point (2000 ER Points = $10 off grocery).

If you are calculating with QFF (2000 ER Points can be converted into 1000 QFF Points):

$500 worth of TCN Gift = 10000 ER Points
      10000 ER Points = 5000 QFF Points
      5000 QFF Points = 4000c (Assuming 1 Point = $0.8c) = $40
      $40/$500 = 0.08 = 8% discount

      • thank you!

is $50 max denomination for TCN Gift?

        • As per WookieMonster comment:

I have not seen Woolworths sell a $100 TCN GIFT gift card; only $30 and $50 denominations.

  • "Limit of 10 cards per transaction and one transaction per day per Rewards Member."
So, technically if I buy 10 today, I can come back tomorrow and get another 10 with the same Everyday Rewards account and will get another 20x bonus?

Also, is there a way to consolidate/combine multiple TCN cards to one card with the accumulated amount?

    • "Limit of 10 cards per transaction and one transaction per day per Rewards Member."
So, technically if I buy 10 today, I can come back tomorrow and get another 10 with the same Everyday Rewards account and will get another 20x bonus?

      In theory, yes.

In practice, make sure to check whether you will be actually credited with bonus points on tomorrow’s transactions.

is there a way to consolidate/combine multiple TCN cards to one card with the accumulated amount?

      Not through TCN themselves.

If you go to a physical location of a participating retailer (e.g. rebel, JB Hi-Fi), their checkout systems should let you use multiple TCN gift cards to purchase one rebel gift card or one JB Hi-Fi gift card. However, this is entirely dependent on whether staff are willing to do this and know how to do this, and (as an example) some JB Hi-Fi staff will stop customers using gift cards to purchase gift cards.

      • +1

thanks mate, your insights are always appreciated.

I would feel sorry for someone who served / will serve that lady who was/is buying treadmill from rebel with 60 gift cards since you cannot combine gc's! lol

  • I went to woolies, found 7x100 gift card. The cashier was unable to Scan them. I could not buy them!!

    • What type of gift card?

      • The gift one

        • +1

I think that's because Woolworths does not actually sell them, so the 13-digit barcode number associated with the $100 TCN GIFT gift card would not exist in the checkout system and therefore the checkout would not recognise that particular gift card.

It sounds like a gift card rep dropped off (or mail to the store) the wrong TCN GIFT gift cards to the Woolworths you were at.

          • @WookieMonster: What exactly do they need to Scan then? Some people here are using the self check out.

            • @Dienk: You need to scan the long barcode at the checkout. The long barcode is the on e physically printed on the back of the gift card itself.

If you scan the short barcode of a gift card (and it is a gift card actually sold at Woolworths), there will be a message on the checkout screen saying to scan the long barcode instead. For the TCN GIFT gift card, the short barcode is the barcode printed on the top right-hand corner of the back of the gift card packaging.

              • @WookieMonster: Just went to another store and picked 10x 30/50 GC and It worked perfect. I assume the $100 I picked ealier was removed from the System and should not be in the shelf as per many comments saying the $100 was not longer avaliable.

                • @Dienk: Glad to hear you managed to find some gift cards!

I don’t think the $100 denomination was removed from the Woolworths checkout system. I don’t think it was ever in the checkout system to begin with.

  • Does anyone knows If I can combine those points with 10% off monthly that I have due to my insurance be from woolworths?

  • if only they sell $100 or above (for eBay)

anyone has success in combining these $50 into a larger amount giftcard?

    • +1

No, this is where the swap celebration card is good as it allows combining into one voucher.

  • Thanks!
Bought 10 TCN GIFT GCs and received points instantly.

  • Does anyone know how to check balance from giftcard added to google wallet? I seem to lose the physical card
    Thanks
