    Time for a PSA…

Woolworths seems to only sell GIFT cards in the $50 denomination.

I visited a Woolworths earlier today, and the posters in-store only advertise a $50 GIFT card denomination. This is consistent with the fact that I have only seen $50 GIFT cards in stock at a number of Woolworths supermarkets.

For reference, TCN sells $50 and $100 (physical) GIFT cards on their website, and Coles supermarkets typically sell $30 and $50 GIFT cards.

Some TEEN cards appear to have been mislabelled as GIFT cards.

In other words, if you purchase a GIFT card, you may inadvertently purchase a TEEN card instead.

To check whether a GIFT card is actually a GIFT card or a TEEN card, you will need to look at the gift card number printed just above the long barcode on the back of the physical gift card:

    • GIFT cards are supposed to have a card number starting with 5021 2510 286

    • TEEN cards are supposed to have a card number starting with 5021 2510 273

If you have a GIFT card with a card number starting with 5021 2510 273, you have actually purchased a TEEN card that has been incorrectly labelled. Please be mindful of this, particularly if you’re looking to use the GIFT card at retailers only on the GIFT card.

(Credit to @NeverMissABargain for their kind assistance in helping to unravel this mystery!)

    • Hi, I just wanna confirm, are cards still able to be swapped?

      • I don't have an incorrectly-labelled GIFT card, but it sounds like from earlier comments that you can exchange your incorrectly-labelled GIFT card for a digital gift card from a list of participating retailers of the TEEN card.

That is not ideal if you're looking for eBay gift cards (for example), but it shouldn't affect you if you're looking for JB Hi-Fi gift cards (for example).

          that's great then! thanks!

    Dealbot too quick

    • +1

Theres 3 other dupes (4 if you include one posted 2 hours ago, removed for being before 5pm). A bit suspicious though because it says 28 mins ago and its only 5:27 rn….

        • +1

Am I doing it right?. Since it hasn't been over an hour it's not going to display like that in your screenshot :)

          • +1

@Clear: Yea I screenied because he said "A bit suspicious though because it says 28 mins ago and its only 5:27 rn"

In case he or anyone else thinks the post time was actually before 5pm (only shows while logged out). I was confused about this myself in the past.

            • -1

@MiscOzB: Clear was so sure that you doctored the image
You're correct it says 17:00 and not xx minutes ago when you're not logged in to the site.

              • @payton: I'm always logged in that's why I didn't know it was a thing. So I was wrong.

                Interesting that's it's different. Wonder if there's a reason?

                • @Clear: Im going to guess that OzB shows local time, unless they have a reference time as to the user's location, which then uses that to calculate time since posting.

  • Good deal DB!

    @bargainsgrabber we tried

    FAQs

If you have a question about this deal, it may be answered on the dedicated FAQ wiki page.

  • What does the '20x reward points' translate to?

    • +13

10% of the face value of these gift cards returned to you in bonus Everyday Rewards Points (to be used on groceries).

      • Probably only worth about 6% since you can get 3-5% off ww cards from a variety of sources.

        • +1

Actually I think that it's about 9.5% in equivalent value (because $100 of Woolworths credit can be bought via WW gift cards for about $95)

        • +3

since you can get 3-5% off ww cards from a variety of sources.

How does that reduce the value of these gift cards?

          • @magic8ballgag: Because the points are converted to $10 per 2000 points, so face value is 10% off, but you’d normally save 3-5% anyways using gift cards from NRMA/seniors, so it’s less this amount.

  • +3

    5 bucks or 10%…

  • my ebay gc stock is running low, maybe i will grab some. thanks

  • Sorry to ask, how do we swap them for eBay cards?

    • +5

You need to go to the TCN webpage for the Gift gift card to access the gift card exchange portal and request an eBay gift card.

I’ve included instructions on the FAQ page (which is linked to in the pinned comment).

      • +2

There is no option of ebay listed as a participating retailer for Gift card.

Either enter the gift card number into the box or choose the participating retailer from the dropdown list
Click/tap on the Online button to the right of the box or dropdown list (only required for participating retailers that permit TCN gift cards to be redeem in-store as well)

        • Did you input a gift card number into the box in the How to Use section? Last time I checked, the pagr would show eBay as a participating retailer.

          • +4

@WookieMonster: yes. Only if you input the card number and click Continue, it will bring the drop down list of all partcipating retailers. BTW, I have already left a message for TCN support team.

            • +2

@NeverMissABargain: I'm having the same problem, did you get this resolved?

              • +3

@anniemal: Did get a prompt response from TCN support team and they have asked me to send picture of gift card with all details so that they can issue the eBay card manually. FTW

                • @NeverMissABargain: Thanks, you must have got lucky as I’ve contacted them as well and have heard back nothing. Such a palaver, I don’t think this is worth the saving in time spent messing about! I’m thinking I might try and get a refund from Woollies as the cards aren’t working as advertised.

                  • +1

@anniemal: Not sure exactly why you cant swap to ebay - but literally just tried one card now (2 June) and ebay (Online) is definitely an option in the drop down list.

                    • +1

@cheapfab: I think my cards might be coded wrong or something because on the receipt from Woollies it says they are ‘TEEN’ cards even through on the physical card and packaging it says ‘GIFT’ so when I enter the number on the website it shows me the TEEN card swap options which don’t include eBay

                      • +1

@anniemal: Same! I bought 10 yesterday only one has problem, and today I bought 4, also had problem! I think it is the TEEN cards! But outlook is GIFT cards

                    • +3

@cheapfab: i checked again and can confirm ebay is not showing as a listed seller.

                      • @NeverMissABargain: Same for me

                        • +3

@anniemal: These guys are hilarious! Below is the response I have received from the TCN support team:

After we double-checked the participating retailers for our The Gift Cards, I am so very sorry to let you know that eBay isn't one of them any longer. As we mentioned in our Terms and Conditions, "At any time we may add or remove participating retailers and/or where the Card may be redeemed and/or add or remove goods or services which may be purchased with the Card." I hope you understand and please kindly select different retailers from our list here.

                          • +3

@NeverMissABargain: I'm sorry that we removed every single retailer on the card just after you purchased it, but the T&Cs clearly give us that right."

                          • +2

@NeverMissABargain: I’m extremely confused by that response from TCN (and the whole situation you’re stuck in), because:

I’m starting to wonder whether different versions of the GIFT card exist.

                            • +1

                              @WookieMonster:

I’m starting to wonder whether different versions of the GIFT card exist.

Most likely yes, as few people here have mentioned that they are able to swap it online.

                          • +2

@NeverMissABargain: Wow that is unbelievably dodgy but also seems factually wrong as the cards are working for others so they haven’t even removed eBay!
I called Woolworths customer service yesterday and have requested a refund and am just waiting to hear back.

                            • @anniemal: I'm starting to get worried that the cards are not swappable from reading the comments. the title should be taken down temp.

  • Any quality limitations? Can I buy 10?

    • +1

I’m assuming you’re asking about quantity limits.

The fine print in the catalogue states the limit is 10 per customer.

However, I suspect the limit is not actually 10 per customer, because that specific term is only really used for gift cards being sold at an upfront discount. Someone will need to attempt to purchase more than 10 gift cards during this deal to see whether you can get bonus Everyday Rewards points on the 11th, 12th, etc gift cards purchased during this deal. (My guess is that you will, because I have not seen a gift card deal at Woolworths in the last couple of years where you did not earn bonus Everyday Rewards points after already purchasing a certain number of gift cards.)

Additionally, you need to keep in mind that staff can impose their own restrictions on the number of gift cards you can purchase during a gift card deal. The reason a lot of staff will give you is that gift card scams and fraud are still problems supermarkets and other retailers need to contend with.

      • +1

Thanks very much for your fantastic answer. 10 should be OK. Thinking about 20, let's do a try later on

        • did you end up trying ;)

  • +1

What is the limit/maximum number of gift cards you can use to checkout on eBay with promo code ?

    • +7

      Officially speaking

7 eBay gift cards + 1 coupon code.

      Additionally:

      • No more than a total of $1,500 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per transaction,
      • No more than a total of $2,000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per day, and
      • No more than a total of $5,000 in Gift Cards may be redeemed per calendar month.

      Not-so-officially speaking

t’s probably actually 8 eBay gift cards + 1 coupon code.

I’m not sure if the dollar value limits actually apply.

      • +3

can confirm the dollar value limits actually apply. Cannot go higher than these limits

I have hit all of three limits in the past

The 8 gift card + 1 code is hit and miss. I would not try that as sometimes it bug out the system

  • +8

just to add , swapping these Gift(thecardnetwork.com.au) into ebay gift card sometimes has problem. Make sure you take screenshot of each swap

I bought a few of them on last flybuys sale, while swapping, some ebay gift card never arrived . Need to contact customer service and give them the screenshot

I am not sure if TCN has fix this or not

    • +1

Oh god, seems like a hassle, I’m hesistant to buy it incase I don’t get it the swap

  • +8

Be careful using your eBay Giftcards - more than once I've had a checkout fail or an order cancelled, and eBay still just merrily debit the giftcard balance 🤷🏼‍♂️
They'll make you wait 25 days before they'll investigate !!

  • great.

  • +1

again, can 20x point apply to $100 TCN Gift too? in-case the $50 is out of stock.

    • +2

      Yes.

The fine print of the deal in the catalogue says it’s fine:

Offer available from 01/06/22 to 07/06/22 on all denominations of gift cards pictured

OP usually only mentions denominations of gift cards pictured in the catalogue to be on the safe side (just in case other denominations are excluded).

      • The gift cards pictured are specifically $50 ones, not not 100% sure on that. Lets hope their interpretations of that phrasing does mean all values of card are included.

    • Yes according to T&Cs

Offer available from 01/06/22 to 07/06/22 on all denominations of gift cards pictured including

I went to 2 Woolworths stores and I can't find $100 worth gift card of GIFT or SHOP

      • +1

i couldn't find the 100 as well. so, I get all the 50 instead.

        • +1

my problem is that I want to buy something on ebay worth $620 but you can't use more than 8 vouchers at once :-(

      • Had the same experience today looking for Gift. There were $100 for others like Her and Him, but I also noticed the promotional signage only mentioned the bonus on $50 and $30. So not sure what’s up with that

  • I'm planning to buy a laptop worth 2k, is it not really possible to use more than 8 gift cards per transaction?

Is there no way round it? Thanks

  • Can we use 'the pub and bar' card in normal cafe, fast food shop or restaurant?

what is the different between 'the pub and bar' and "the restaurant" card?

  • What is the expiry of these cards?

    • +1

All gift cards in this deal expire three years from the purchase date.

  • I tried looking for this in FAQ but couldn't really get a straight answer. Does JB-Hifi have a limit on how many GC you can use in store? TIA

    • +5

I believe there is no limit for the number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards or TCN/Ultimate gift cards you can redeem in one transaction in-store. The OzBargain record for the highest number of TCN/Ultimate gift cards redeemed in one in-store transaction at JB Hi-Fi is 81.

If you’re going to redeem a lot of TCN gift cards in one transaction in-store (e.g. more than 8), you should be mindful of a few things.

      • There is currently no way of consolidating multiple small-denomination TCN gift cards into one larger-denomination TCN gift card through TCN.

      • It will take a lot of time to redeem physical TCN gift cards (at least when compared with redeeming only one card). Try to visit your local JB Hi-Fi store at a quieter time if you can, so you don’t end up causing a lot of people to wait in a queue at the checkout whilst you’re busy swiping gift cards.

      • “Prepare” the gift cards before you get to the store (e.g. remove the gift cards from the cardboard packaging, scratch to reveal the PINs).

My concern is that if too many people are not mindful of these things (and I’m not saying you won’t be), I don’t want people to give JB Hi-Fi an excuse to bring back a limit on the amount of TCN or Ultimate gift cards you can redeem in one in-store transaction!

(I’ll also add this answer to the FAQ later.)

      • How many can I use online in one transaction?

        • +3

          Zero.

The TCN gift cards in this deal operate on the EFTPOS network, so you will be unable to directly redeem them on the JB Hi-Fi website.

However, TCN has a gift card exchange portal on their website, where you can exchange the part or all of the available balance of a TCN gift card for a participating retailer's digital gift card (assuming the participating retailer participates in the exchange portal). JB Hi-Fi currently participates in this exchange portal, so you can follow the instructions here to exchange your TCN gift card for a JB Hi-Fi digital gift card.

    • +3

Went in yesterday to a JB store. Can confirm that I used 20 of those. Asked them if there was any limit, they said the same thing as Wookie, they don't think so as their system allows them to add as many as you want. The Team Member at checkout said she did a 70 last Black Friday so I should be fine. Also suggested that its good I came when it was not too busy (As they have to swipe each card and enter PIN).

  • Hi im interested to get these for the JBHIFI deals, does anyone know if I can instantly convert these into Jbhifi gift card and use them online or is there a delay?

  • Hi guys,
May I do the price match with officework?

    • +1

No, it's not upfront discount. Just points

  • +4

Can confirm you can buy more than 10 and still get the points.

  • Can you pay for gift cards at woollies using rewards-pay loaded with woollies gift cards?

I already have a couple hundred of gift cards saved in the app, would be nice to use them to load up on ebay cards.

    • +2

      No.

You cannot use Everyday Pay to purchase any gift cards at Woolworths or BIG W (even if you only have a bank card tied to Everyday Pay). I tried this about a month ago and got an Item Not Allowed error as soon as I pressed Pay Now at the checkout.

      • +1

Ahh I suspected as much, thanks for the heads up.

  • Thanks,

I ordered 20 gift cards from Woolies (10 gift cards under my account and 10 gift cards under my hot chick's account),

Then I redeemed and converted all gift cards to JBHIFI and bought a item from JB HI FI with "92WICKEDWEDS" code.

    • You could have used TEEN instead of GIFT and that would have helped somebody else.

      • Next time!!!

  • +1

I couldn’t find any $100 card for “gift” , out of stock. So purchased $50 x 5 at another woolworths store. I hate these small denominations.

  • No GIFT variety left at Woolworths Crows Nest or Chatswood

    • Ampol MetroGo Pac Hwy Chatswood does not stock gift cards.

If anyone sees stock of GIFT variety in lower north shore, please call it out.

      • +1

It’s probably a good thing you didn’t actually purchase any gift cards at an Ampol Woolworths MetroGo.

Ampol Woolworths Metro and Ampol Woolworths MetroGo are operated by Ampol, not Woolworths. The only involvement that Woolworths has in these locations are licensing the Woolworths Metro or Woolworths MetroGo branding to Ampol, as well as the supply of some items sold in the convenience store. The issue is that the terms and conditions of this gift card deal don’t explicitly call out Ampol Woolworths MetroGo as an excluded location (even though it should).

It is similar to how EG locations are always excluded from these gift card deals. Even though most EG locations still prominently display a large Woolworths logo on the fuel price board out the front and the convenience store may still display a Woolworths logo above the entrance, you will find that Woolworths catalogue deals and prices don’t apply at EG. EG is only using the Woolworths brand under licence from Woolworths, and EG operate these locations as they see fit.

        • +1

Thanks for the background. It is confusing. A recent Amex deal said Ampol, but not Caltex Woolworths, and of course Ampol Woolworths didn't work.
The lack of acceptance of the Rewards card in the transaction would have stopped the sale.

          • @roughana: All Ampol Woolworths Metro and Ampol Woolworths MetroGo locations accept Everyday Rewards, so that wouldn’t have actually stopped you. My experience indicates that Ampol staff will happily scan your Everyday Rewards card, even if you are buying a gift card (which earns zero points).

In regards to the last AMEX/Ampol deal, Caltex Woolworths only referred to EG, because the alternate name for EG locations is Caltex Woolworths, but this name is being phased out in favour of EG Caltex or EG Ampol. However, if you spent money at an Ampol Woolworths Metro or Ampol Woolworths MetroGo in the last AMEX/Ampol deal, you would have received cashback, because those are Ampol locations, not EG locations.

The whole situation with Ampol, Chevron, EG and Caltex is a complete mess.

      • +1

No GIFT variety at Northbridge or Gordon.

        • Thornleigh has a few left

  • Do Woolworths sell $100 in the GIFT ?

  • Has anyone successfully or unsuccessfully swap the "Gift" card to Ebay Gift card? seems there are few people reporting issues, wonder if it is worth the risk /issue as Im looking to buy $400 worth of Ebay GC. Thanks

    • +2

I was able to swap 4 * $50 earlier today. All of them came in within 5-10 minutes. I’d do what someone else recommended though and take screenshots of each customer service reference number you get, just in case.

  • +1

Don’t bother with Town Hall, all stripped out

  • Before I go hunting for GCs, has anyone used a GC at The Oodie with an item's pre-applied discount code?

The discount code and gift card code is in the same box on the checkout page and has this warning:
Please note only one discount code can be used per order. If you are purchasing multiple bundles or products, we suggest placing separate orders

It doesn't specifically state you can't use both, but I've known IT systems can be quite silly..

  • +3

TCN gift can’t swap to ebay! But I’m pretty sure not they system problems, because I bought 10, only 1 can’t swap, I call customer support help me swap to ebay! It show TEEN card!
But today I bought another 4, all of 4 can’t swap to ebay! Customer support told me to send email take photos of receipt and cards, one by one! So annoying!

    • +1

I mean they mixed up the TEEN cards code into the GIFT cards package
