1:8 "4x4 Remote Control Monster Truck" $59 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Kmart

100

I bought this truck to replace my broken Rockzilla truck which didn't even last a week of post Xmas driving
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/734472

It isnt as stylish, but it is substantially bigger and its easier to do stunts/tricks with because the left and right wheels are controlled independently.

It doesnt go as fast as Rockzilla did, but it is fast enough for casual users.

Rechargable Lion main battery in the car. 4 x AA batteries in the remote (not supplied)

Was $89 before Xmas. If it doesn't sell, will drop some more.

No free delivery because the box is LARGE.

NB: 4X4 is a misnomer - it is 2WD - front wheel drive.

  • "Suitable for ages: 8+ years"…

Would it be too difficult for a 4.5 year old boy to operate? I'm tempted but unsure about this…

    • +3

I would say most 4.5 year old boys will find it super easy to use.

The remote is two up/down joysticks (for left and right wheels)
Push both forward to go forward, both back to reverse, etc.

Look at the manual but I would say 4.5 year old will love it and master it quickly.

    • I’m half considering it for my 3 year old! Might have to just him controlling forward backwards while I steer though.

from what the candy man said, this will be difficult cos it doesnt drive like that.

        • Ah dang

@Jimothy Wongingtons: 1:8 is cool just cos of the size though. If you have room in the top of a wardrobe, get it for next xmas
            .

        • As a kid I hated that control scheme. Back then remote control cars were very expensive and all the affordable ones had that style because it’s cheaper than having real steering.

I find the left / right wheel 2 joystick controllers easier to use then a forward and turn 2 joystick configuration. They certainly make it very easy to spin the car around without moving it very far from where it is sitting - so you can do cool stunts with it. You can't do that easily with a forward/turn controller.

Word of warning, this car is large and when it hits things at full throttle, it hits them pretty hard.

  • Is the battery removable? Ideally would get one that you can change the battery in so that you can play for more than 30 minutes between recharge

    • +2

Not without a lot of effort.

You can recharge it by opening the base and attaching a charging adaptor to it - one end of the adaptor plugs into the battery, the other into a USB port.

The battery is embedded inside the car and not designed to be hot swapped.

At $59 for the whole kit, might as well buy 2 and just charge one car while the other is being used - probably not a lot more expensive than a 2nd battery - and you get the bonus of 2 cars and 2 remotes!

    Best to use outdoors.

10 year old son loves it!
Very powerful, quite fast and a little loud.
Easily runs over the rocks, concrete and grass.
Few hours to charge and runs for awhile.
Suggest using it outside as my son rammed it into the wall and put a hole in it

    • yikes. there goes the bond

1980s called: they want their RC toys back….

        • I don’t get it?

  • It's called a 4X4 but it's actually 2WD front wheel drive.
