Such a cheap way to get yourself introduced to the fact the hours 10pm to 4am feel like 30 seconds

    • +24

      Oh it's 10pm already? I'll just have one more turn……. annnnndddddddd….. it's 4am. F&*k

      • +29

I'm the same with Cities Skylines - Didn't realise my wife left me and took the dog.

      • +4

Oh gee work tomorrow, I will chuck a sickie then

        • +6

          Today* 🤣

          • @MaccDogg: I think you meant a sickie for today and yesterday, been 2 days already bruh

    • +3

Also a much cheaper way getting into an addiction. If a person has to choose an addiction, gaming on any platform beats gambling anyday.

Edit: does not apply to people who is still in school as it is certainly not a reason to play game instead of study.

      • +6

Unfortunately I don't think that sentiment applies in the day and age of IAPs and loot boxes… :(

    • Looks too hard for me, just youtubed the game, the interface looks complicated, prefer rts. Agree it will soak a lot of your time away.

      • +3

Nothing like a calm, relaxing game of StarCraft on ladder…

        • +2

Always feels great to ragequit and go straight to bed.

        • Omg… the word 'ladder' in this context, haven't read this in a while! Brings back memories and I swear my wrists twitch when I think about it… back in the days where I had (so I believed) high-ish APMs…

      • +1

Civilization VI isn't hard, it is easy to get into when you understand it is a power fantasy of trying control a Civilisation from inception to destruction / elevation. Select something to research, invest in cities, and move units.

      "Only played 1 minute, cool"

    • +2

I remember at college a mate would be playing Civ on my computer when I went to bed. I'd wake up at 6am and he'd still be there, with eyeballs bulging a bit more than the night before. Super addictive.

  • Great price for a great game, unfortunately already have it.

    • +6

      How's that unfortunate lol

      • +3

as i most likely paid more for it

        • And all that time from when you purchased it till now, all those hours are not worth the price difference?

          • @YeboMate: Played 14 hours only since buying it like a year ago soooo don't think so

  • +9

Platinum and Anthology bundles also reduced.

I found buying Platinum first and then buying the missing bits to fill out the Anthology bundle to be cheaper than buying Anthology straight up. Posted deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739768
Not sure if it's still the case, but could be worth trying.

    • Good pickup. I already had Platinum, so Anthology was $19.xx (close enough to the quoted $16.xx).
Looks like Platinum is still $21.56, so using the method attached it'd be ~$41.xx to get Anthology (aka ALL the DLC).
      Extremely worth.

  • +2

Can you do much with the base game or will I end up having to buy all the extras? I only ask because the last one I played was Civ II on Win95.

    • curious about this too. Keen to get this if it's worthwhile.

    • +3

      Extras are absolutely optional!

      • Thanks wonton.

      • Thanks from me as well

      • +3

Optional, yes, but I'd at least get Gathering Storm for $6.50 on top for a much more complete experience.

    • +4

It's well regarded as being MUCH better with DLC, at least Gathering Storm (currently about $6.50 on sale, bringing it to about $15 in total).

However, following the comments above, you can get the game and all the DLC (Anthology) for about $40.

      • Thanks… I've purchased the game and will possibly get Gathering Storm DLC in a couple of days if I'm enjoying it (before the price goes up).

  • +1

Also on the Switch for $9.59 if you like the portability.

  • +2

Haven't seen it this price, but pretty sure its been free on Epic before…

    • +1

Can confirm I got it for free years ago via Epic - but I have no idea when.

    • can confirm I got it on epic also but just the base game compared to the whole set on steam

    • +1

Base game was an Epic Games free giveaway back in May 2020.

  • +1

I still occasionally go back to play this, But I definitely don't get the enjoyment I had out of the first couple of versions where I would regularly be playing all night.

    • +4

Yeah. Civ 2 was the peak for me.

      • +1

        Video advisers for the win

  • +4

The horror! Now the ozbargain gods wanted not only all of your money but also your time!

  • Excellent game one of the greatest ever. Still playing the regular game no expansions. So much replicability.

Civ 7 would surely have to be announced soon they were hiring people in ads in 2021

    • Civ games take a long time to develop

  • -2

I wasted 5 mins to login to warn everyone that Civ V is better, both can be had for ~$12 normally on third party sites

    • I've played Civ 5 for 60ish hours, is this not worth the price of entry in comparison?

      • -8

lol amateur, I have over 600 hours under my belt, have beaten deity over 50 times with differing strategies. I've never played VI but just by looking at the graphics I can confidently conclude V is superior, if not only for the memes.

        • +4

Lmao I wasn't flexing, I was just explaining where I was coming from, but thanks for being patronising anyway.

          • @Ozymandias: I was actually trying to shitpost humour, I guess that is difficult these days

But I was mocking your comment in the sense that you're not going to understand the depth of the game in 60 hours. It took me 60 hours to beat deity once with domination victory using Mongols and that is considered fast, and using an OP Civ, and this is barely scratching the surface.

    • +2

Civ VI is better than Civ V. It’s far more refined and enjoyable.

Civ IV was my favourite as it was very feature complete, which had square tiles and allowed doomstacks (i.e. many many units on the same tile, however cities are harder to defend because of this — it’s not a huge issue though), also no barbarian encampments.

  • Civ V + DLC + Vox Populi mod is the best version of civ.

    • No, CIV IV we the people mod for colonization is the best

  • +1

Same price for the base game @ Epic Games. Though you may already have it in your Epic Games library as the base game was a free giveaway back in May 2020

    • Epic's Windows-only, however. This here works on Mac too.

      • Wow, I'm surprised that Epic's version is limited to Windows despite Epic having a Mac native launcher.
I wonder if I could still play this on a mac (i'm planning to buy a macbook soon) using rosetta or otherwise (through Epic's windows launcher).

  • +1

It might be cheaper on other sites; some have AU specific pricing others just do a direct conversion for the USD price: https://gg.deals/game/sid-meiers-civilization-vi/

    And

"You also agree that all this information about you can be sent to countries with "lower standards of privacy protection"".

  • If I have the game on Epic, can I buy the DLCs on steam?

    • Actually, I've realised the Anthology Upgrade is cheaper on Epic anyway ($34.97 vs $43.36)

The Anthology Upgrade, at least from my understanding, includes all DLCs and packs? but please correct me if I'm wrong before I buy lmao

      • Just to support people making informed choices, I will add - thanks to pizzaguy's comment above - Civ VI on Epic is restricted to Windows but on Steam works for both.

        EDIT

I'M SO BLIND AND REALISED ITS ONLY CHEAPER ON EPIC BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE THE BASE GAME
Facepalm - sorry if I've confused or inconvenienced anyone… and for the comment spam….
