  • How’s the control on switch?

Dreadfully slow and laggy is my experience .

    • Great. I use the touch screen for the most part. Spent 7 hours straight playing it on a flight to Singapore. It got slow in the late game, though by that point I usually get bored and start again anyway :P

      • You mean slow as in laggy?

        • More to do with wait times while the CPU is making all its moves. It's considerably longer than on PC.

I found using the switch physical controls was a lot easier and faster than touch or mice on the PC, once you get use to it. I get through my turns much quicker compared to the PC. But yes, late game turn wait times are slow if you have a decent sized map and players.

  • Is this available on PlayStation?

This game is literally unplayable, the game will slow down and then freeze midway through any campaign on the switch. I gave up trying to get through a single campaign after 5 attempts. Do not buy it.

      All the reviews wrong? Wow!

Well I have the disc version sitting at home with my switch. The switch works fine and the cd is undamaged, the game plays fine enough until you build 4-6 cities before the system becomes unstable. I expect there are many many other people with the same issue. Aside from it literally freezing (even saving and restarting from the save point causes it to refreeze), the game runs unbearablly slowly due to the poor hardware in the switch.

Disc? CD? Are you sure you're using a switch?!?

That hasn’t been my experience, and I’ve put about 100 hours into the game in my Switch. It does get quite slow towards the end of a marathon campaign on a giant map though.

    • Maybe you should contact Nintendo regarding your game cartridge, it could be corrupt, your experience definitely isn't the norm. In my hundreds of hours on the Switch version of Civ, haven't had freezing or slowdown that are consistently ruining games, aka unplayable. Yes, I've had random crashes but the game's auto saves every two turns so no big deal. I do agree that the Switch is no power house, loading times could be improved, but once you are in you are fine. I get just as much enjoyment out of the game in smaller maps (4-6 opponents) vs mega maps on the PC.

Do i really want to play this on switch though? I bought it ages ago as it was cheap but probably a better idea to just play on pc

    • Depends if you want it portable. If not, just stick to the PC version you’ve already got.

      • Does it lend itself to being portable or is every turn a marathon made worse by a tiny screen & not having a mouse?

        • +1

I like it a lot on Switch - I’ve put in about 100 hours while playing it on the bus and train, and don’t find it difficult to control. It can get quite slow in the late game though, particularly if you’re playing on a large map.

        • Yes, I play more now on the Switch than on the PC. You can play within 10 sec whenever there's time from your busy life, on the couch, train, bus, waiting room etc. On the PC is great (faster turns, better graphics), but I just don't have time for long sessions anymore.

    • I haven't tried it myself but it does apparently have cross-platform cloud save for pc to switch

      • Yes it does, works well. But just don't expect bigger map sizes to load and play the same on the Switch. 4-6 player maps are fine, any bigger the turn times just becomes too much at later ages.

  • Game regularly crashes for me. Love Civ 6, but reckon it's worth a pass on Switch based on the poor performance

  • Game session ends and I found myself already in next day.

    • Done. Will share thoughts once I have a good play. I like the cross platform saving option.

For those that have this, thoughts on this version vs the more expensive bundles with more expansions? This seems like a absolute bargain at under $10 but quickly jumps into $20+ and $30+ with extras and not sure if that is as worth it?

I already have Civ 5 complete with everything on PC… Having this for on the go would be sweet but may end in divorce :)

this version vs the more expensive bundles with more expansions

IMO, you'll want as a minimum Platinum Edition with the Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm (GS) expansions as Civ 6 is fairly basic without them, esepcially for a seasoned Civ 5 player. GS brings in a lot of mechanics which makes it an true upgrade from Civ5. The Anthology version includes the frontier pass DLCs, which further changes the game mechanics. I can't comment on it as I don't have it either. Similar to you, coming from Civ 5, I think you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of Civ 6+GS already.

Playing on the Switch saved my marriage! Now I can play Civ next to her while she's on the phone, instead of in the study on the PC (yes, they are supposely different things…).

I think I got this for free via Epic on PC but haven't played it yet.

For less than a tenner, may as well also not play it on Switch.

    Thanks OP.

At this price, I'm tempted to buy and then sell my physical game. Changing cartridge is a pain since I usually have this game loaded anyways.

  • what did i just buy? and download >.< - any ideas on how to play this? i bought it cause cheap and looked like AOE lol
