Had mine just over a year. Love it! Met Fleetwood Macs ex-manager in Dec and he was keen to use my pics I'd taken with it.

Whoops I unpublished my message. Thanks for the feedback. That's impressive about the photos. I've been looking online and damn that's an impressive camera. Cheers

Hearing mixed stuff about this one. What kind of battery life are people getting with normal use + browsing and some youtubing (no netflix) vs battery saver? Also hear there are some bugs? Great price though may wait for a jb offer!

    • +1

      For the price, no complaints

    • +2

had mine for about a year. If I'm going out to work and stream netflix(etc) on the train for 2 hour round trip + use it throughout the day i just put on battery saver and it lasts all day.
If i'm not streaming for 2hours+ a day and just using it as normally it easily lasts all day without battery saver.

Went through 2 of these in a month. Overheating, battery drain, slow, network dropout. Such a horrible phone. Was able to get a refund and now using my old S8+ which is way better until I wait for the S23. Never using a pixel phone.

      • +3

Couldn't disagree more I've had an S8 which was good albeit very ordinary battery life and I have an S21 which overheats and has a pretty cruddy battery imo.

I've used a pixel and it'll be my next phone… imo they are a better device

        • +3

I agree too, something has really been lacking in Samsung’s quality lately. I had an S20 Ultra which several months later began to last 2 hours SoT and get very very hot. The batteries are too consistently terrible in those things :(

          • @noren7: S20 ultra here and same issues. I think its the exynos processors

            • @bibekl: Lol i'm still using my samsung S4. Old, chipped edges, chunk taken out of bottom corner, light bleed through the sides, been under water, dropped countless times, still going strong but battery is giving out :-(

            • @bibekl: Note 20 ultra here, slightly different device but I made the effort to get a Qualcomm model and the battery is still great 2 years later.

        • Dont think you guys can beat me, still Note 5 for my wife, absolutely a strong machine, battery still last 1 full day, takes lovely photos, even no more upddates for so many years, all apps still working fine!

        • Totally agree - I've owned Pixel 1, 2 & 3 XL devices and they were pretty much flawless. Then I had a couple of OnePlus phones which were okay but nothing special. Now I how the Pixel 7 Pro and consider it money very well spent.

Meanwhile, my wife has gone through a series of Samsung phones which have given nothing but trouble. Failing to charge, randomly losing reception, GPS location inaccuracies, overheating and shutting down, dodgy fingerprint reader and endless software glitches.

I guess there are lemons in every mass-produced item.

      • +1

Strange. I've had pixel 2, 4 and now 6. The 4 wasn't great, had its issues. The battery life on my 6 has only gotten better with software updates over the past few months, which is strange. Most of the time my phones battery life has gotten worse as time goes on. Wife has a samsung, she loves it. Each to their own I guess.

Been using the 256gb version for more than a yr. Very frustrating for the most part due to buggy firmware, shitty battery life, stuttering, network dropout. Its been good since the last stable update. but since i enrolled in beta and installed the latest beta firmware, the whole experience has been unbelievable so far. Supersmooth, battery life is great. I set the resolution to fhd+, hence the reason i enrolled to beta program to use this feature. I use maps to and from work drive, about 40 mins each way. play music through tidal while driving. Use gmail and outlook while working. Also use teams all day.

      • Good tip re the Beta, will need to check it out as I've had a very poor experience with the GP6P - network dropouts, software glitches where the screen doesn't turn on when a call is coming through, other bugs and glitches. Haven't had any battery life issues.

    • It's bizarre. At home on wifi, I get a sustained 8hours screen ontime according to the action dash app.

But when I'm out and about, I swear it's closer to 4.5 hours. I believe the 5g modem in the pixel 6 pro isn't very energy efficient. I'm on Optus.

It's also a very slippery phone and very hard to grip. I've dropped it on several occasions and had to replace the front screen myself. That was easy, but a pita. I am keen to move away from the pixel 6 pro but I still have another year or so on contract with the device.

      I wish I wasn't an early adopter.

      Edit: pros include

      • first class google experience/integration
      • stock android and no Samsung overlay
      • really good voice to text features
      • very good camera but imo, it has too much hdr and is over processed.
      • nice OLED screen
      • great google maps and YouTube experience

      It's ultimately a good purchase at $746.

    Great price fouiyohhhh

    • +18

Sprinkle some MSG to make it better

  • +1

    Ram looks tasty

  • Product information:- ram size 12gb but ram installed is 8gb. How does that work.

    • +3

All storage options for the P6P are 12GB, just disregard it

    • +7

You just download the extra 4 after first update

This or pixel 6a for $477?

    • +9

… One's a flagship and double the price? Bit hard to compare?

    • +1

You'd be hard pressed to get one of these for $477 , obviously this if they cost the same though. I have heard good things about the camera on the 6a though, some sites even saying it shoots the superior photos between the two.

      https://trak.in/stories/pixel-6a-beats-every-flagship-smartp…

      • I got the Pixel 6Aa from OW for $453 yesterday (price beat Amazon). Using it now. 🥳

        • Yeah, I meant it's hard to find the Pixel 6 Pro 5G for $477. How you liking the 6a?

          • @Agret: Battery and performance seems ok for watching videos.

Fingerprint scanner is a bit hit and miss, which is annoying.

Photo coming out pretty good when not in low light.

I'm getting used to the lack of fingerprint reader on the back. There's a quick tap option so I can use that to bring up notifications and hit the home screen button to convert a YouTube video in Firefox from full screen to picture-in-picture.

          • @Agret: Maybe they're trying to get out of it…

            Amazon product code: G1AZG
            OW product code: GOPIX6ACHK

The retail box from OW has SKU GA03714-GB.

My Pixel 6a from OW has G1AZG on the back near some UK/CA laser etching. It's hard to see but I used a torch.

I think it's fair to say it's the same product.

        • How did you do that? I called and they told me the model number is different

          • +1

@FreeFrag: I called OW early yesterday morning and it went something like this:
"Hello, do you price match the Pixel 6A?"
"Yes, do you have the product number?"
"For your website? I don't sorry, but I can look it up."
"No, that's ok. I'll find it. Is it Google Pixel 6a 128GB?"
"Yes, in the Chalk white colour."
            "That's $747. Is that ok?"
            "Yes."
"What are you price matching against?"
            "Amazon Australia"
"Okay, please give me a few minutes while I look it up."

"Thanks for waiting. It's $453. Is that ok?"
            "Yes. That's great."
            "Is it a good phone?"
"Yes, the camera comes highly recommended."
"Would you like to visit a nearby store to collect it or have it delivered?"
            "Is delivery free?"
            "What's your postcode?"
            "…."
"It's free. But would you like to get it from the Frankston store? It's in stock there."
"That's a bit far, are there any nearby?"
"Sorry, I'm in NSW. Is Ferntree Gully nearby?"
            "Yes."
"Could I please get your surname and email?"
            "…"
            "Please type your cc details."

            • @Tim Mc: Cool. Thanks. I thought it was a special negotiation technique! Turns out all I needed was luck.

By the time this arrives we'll have pixel 8

    • -1

The latest rumour is that we’re jumping to Pixel X with a revolutionary Extensor chip

  • +1

$743 for the 6 Pro or $900 for the 7?

    • +2

The pixel 7 was going cheaper than that recently

    • Or wait a few months for 8 to come out

      • Or wait a few more months for 9 to come out

    • +4

Yeah, wasn't Telstra selling the 7 for $749 a while ago?

  • +3

Great price. As a bonus it doesn't wipe your storage and media without your consent

    • +5

But will it give me the new U2 album?

  • +8

Comes down to what your tolerance is when putting up with problems. If you are the type that is easy going and can turn a blind eye then go for it.

Having owned it, these are the watchouts.

    • Flaky reception
    • Average to subpar battery life 4-7hrs SOT
    • Fingerprint works when being deliberate and only with plastic film protectors
    • Heats up much more than your typical iPhone or Android running a Snapdragon chip

Personally I would just wait for another 7 pro sale and spend a bit more (that isn’t perfect either, but it’s a lot more polished than the 6)

    • Im with you, I have the 6a and I am probably going to sell it off or return, Im just not 100% with it. Reception can be poor even in the city, Battery is pretty average, I didn't have any real issues with the finger print scanner though. Im going back to my Samsung A73 for the time being. Plus I was getting random reboots while using the phone, my watch would go hey I have lost connection to the phone and then I would check and it would be rebooting (and this wasn't due to software updates as I always kept that up to date). I might have a dud unit, but I was pretty disappointed by the whole "Pixel / Google" experience.

One thing though, the camera is wicked awesome. Low light etc, takes great pics.

  • I am leaning towards the Pixel for a few reasons…
    - Seems to have standard hardware
    - Spare parts seem to be more readily available than others
    - Fully supported by Graphene OS

and the 6 Pro over the 7 Pro specifically because Jerry Rig Everything broke the 7 Pro but not the 6 Pro in his bend test

Any other compelling reasons why or why not?

One negative for me is the pricing staying high even while the 7 series is released an getting better price drops. I am adverse to spending more than a few hundred so even this is a stretch.

    • TBH other than price, there is no reason to get the 6 over the 7. In my opinion, you are volunteering yourself into a subpar experience for the sake of saving a few hundred $$. Each to their own

    • +1

"Jerry Rig Everything broke the 7 Pro but not the 6 Pro"

That's a highly non-scientific test, and IMO not particularly useful. The test does reveal phones with relatively low structural resistance to bending, but I can't see why that metric has any relevance to general everyday usage of a phone.

    • Not sure about spare parts via official channels.

Google has replaced my Pixel XL twice, once out of warranty, and they've offered to replace a 3XL out of warranty. Good customer experience so far since 2017.

  • Would latitude 28 degree price protection pay out for this?

  • +4

With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices coming out soon and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 devices available, I would highly advise against anyone buying a phone with a chip fabbed by Samsung. This is because Samsung's process results in chips that are inefficient and overheats a lot.

    Chips fabbed by Samsung:
    - Both Google Tensor chips
    - Snapdragon 888
    - Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
    - All Exynos chips

  • Hey, been looking out for a good google pixel 6 pro deal the last few weeks. I have a google pixel 3 XL from about 4 years ago and love it. This price is very tempting, but how come no one is talking about the warranty? Would an Amazon UK phone only provide 1 year warranty over an Australian compulsary 2 year warranty? Would rather spend a bit more and get 2 years honestly. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

    • But it's fulfilled from Amazon au. It should have the same warranty. Please someone that knows more tell us what's the situation with the warranty?

  • Warranty answer, straight from Google themselves.

"Thanks for waiting, Scott. I've ask assistance about this case and as part of Google manufacturer's policy, we will provide 2 years warranty on the device.
For overseas shipment, we will base the warranty on the country of purchase."

  • Best phone I've ever owned. Bought it recently and couldn't get happier with it. Battery is fine it's blown way out of porpotion. Maybe not the best but remember your paying heaps less for the phone

  • It seems like the price has expired, unfortunately. They are all back to $1000+, but the green one is still at $876.85 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09G73ZF2B?th=1

  • Has anyone's order shipped from this deal?
