Nothing has replaced the classic range lemonade…

  • Need a deal on gas

    • +6

Buy a refill adaptor and a big CO2 tank.

      • This works out way more cost effective. Though I didn't bother with a Sodastream 'machine' either. Just add a regulator, bit of tubing, and a couple of plastic gas connects from a homebrew supply store and reuse soft drink bottles.

        • that works too. you do Kegland well. ;)

I use the machine though because I know even using carbonation caps and fittings etc, the pressure delivered by the sodastream is barely regulated at all. So it seems to work a bit faster. Shaking up an old soft drink bottle with 40psi on it didnt float my boat at the time. But i know it works.

I went with the refill method to keep it as 'normal' as possible for the end-user (family). I have about 8 soda stream cylinders I collected over the years for my homebrew so I just save them all up and refill using a spare co2 bottle I have. Usually get 2 refill sessions before I need to swap the bottle out… So that works out to be 40 bucks for 16 SS cylinders roughly. $2.50 a cylinder (give or take, I dont usually count)

    • Was $14 at spotlight just the other day (just checked, deal over .Noticed it's $21 now instad of $19, bastards).
May not get to $12 again but usually wait for 40% off.

Ps. not everyone want to drill a hole in their bench.

      • Did you post this?? Ive never heard of this deal?

        • Was posted, comes on sale from $12-14 quite often at spotlight, interchangeable with Sodastream (although they don't let you swap those).

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/Sodaking%20type%3Ao…

          • @G-rig: my problem is I don't have a cylinder to swap. I bought a Philips machine on clearance at Coles without realising it doesn't come with gas

            • @Jackson: Best go and buy one then..
              They compatible with Sodastream?

              • @G-rig: yes they are, but while there seems to be deals on swaps all the time I never see one for a new or even old cylinder

                • @Jackson: Just have to get one when spotlight has 40% off, or return the machine if it didn't even come with one and get a Sodastream jet or something

                  • @G-rig: I got the machine very cheap, and so happy to hang out for the next 40% off. Won't ever buy a sodastream on principle

                    • @Jackson: Fair enough, the one I got is fine and comes with cylinder at least. Better build quality than sodaking machines too .

                      • @G-rig: Mine's a Philips, no idea if it's better or worse but it looks nice. don't know why they sell them without a cylinder, I don't think Philips makes cylinders they just tell you to go buy a compatible one.

                        • @Jackson: Still the Sodastream system and no doubt you'll get the gas and syrups anyway so don't see what the protest is about. No doubt the Philips is nice looking, I can't be bothered buying any of the fancier models that do the same thing.

                          • @G-rig: nah you don't have to buy any of their stuff, sodaking is australian made and you can get everything from them, and then there's all sorts of other options, and mostly they cost less from what I've seen. I mainly want it to regass flat bottles of actual coke, cos I don't drink much at all and want to save on the waste

                            • @Jackson: Yeah whatever works, the canisters are interchangeable, but I end up getting sodaking refills whist on sale. Usually only drink carbonated (soda) water anyway, but the odd Pepsi Max mixers are good (most others unnecessary and hit and miss, unhealthy etc).
                              Pepsi owns Sodastream anyway now.

                              • @G-rig: Yeah but their plant an manufacturing is all based in Israel, so that large portion of the benefits of sales go there. I can't really put money into a political system that allows the same person to run the country for as long as they have and also persecutes another nation from a position of massive power basically indefinitely

                                • @Jackson: Overthinking it a bit but that's a fair enough justification. Good if you apply that for all goods and services, what about China.

                                  • @G-rig: No country is perfect, but the situation in China is mainly them persecuting people within their own borders which is a bit different. Israel is a supposed ally of the west, and also a supposed democracy. That makes it a lot harder to justify allowing them to continue their persecution of their neighbours, in theory they should be more inclined to international pressure than e.g. China. We don't support North Korea either, but they aren't a portraying themselves as a shining democracy or taking billions in international aid.

                                    • @Jackson: Edit
Looks like Israel bought Sodastream in 2018.
Pepsi still supplies flavours so should be fine if USA based.

      • No need to drill a hole in your bench you can easily refill cylinders at home. I’ve been doing it for about a year and it’s very easy and a hell of a lot cheaper.

        • Oh right will look into it, as long as the initial setup doesn't cost too much and safe, but sounds ok, particularly if they are going to start increasing the prices. I don't go through that much but would if WFH etc.

PS. Thought you were taking about the setup that replaces the Sodastream bottles/machine.

        • can you find me a cheap spent cylinder? if so I might be up for it.

          • @Jackson: Check eBay or classified. I rotate two.
You could check the keg land website, maybe better just skipping the Sodastream bottles and get a long hose directly from the big bottle. Better than refilling into different bottles.

Just read the above comment, the small bottles work better in the machines.

          • @Jackson: can buy replacement refillable cylinders at kegland

  • Solos alright, solo zeros alright too but has that funny sweetener tang to it. Passiona pretty good too, probably my favourite

Kombuchas are alright, nothing like the normal retail stuff so wouldn’t be paying the $9 they normally want but half price I’d buy a couple

    • What's the passiona one, can't see it?

Sorry got carried away, doesn’t look like it’s in here

how do these taste like if you just buy some fancy sparkling water and add on syrup? would it work?

that no need to spend $35 for a sodastream

    • +1

i came here for that too, woolies have been sold out for months with the cottees zero sugar flavours
i just buy sparkling mineral water 1.25L $1.35, and add flavour, cottees zero lime seems to be good and sometimes not sold out… Raspberry is yuk for me..

    • +1

You can buy bottled sparkling water if you want, but if you drink a fair amount (few bottles a week) the sodastream kit with an adapter and a kegland CO2 bottle with work out much cheaper long term. Heres some info if you are interested in the setup.

The only flavour I drink is Pepsi max and to me it is fine. I will stock up in @ $3.50 each (maybe 20 bottles) for the months ahead of full prices. It works out much cheaper with the kit for me doing it this way than buying bottles of pepsi, plus much better for the environment and I always have it on hand.

      Exactly. We bought SodaKING instead.

yeah, classic slave trading just like every boat that went from Africa to the Americas. https://bdsmovement.net/news/%E2%80%9Csodastream-still-subje…

    • Pepsi Max alright
      Half price.
The Aldi and generic brands aren't much chop and not sugar free mostly.

    • +1

In that case I will avoid and mix it with bottled soda water off the shelf

      • Lugging those bottles around and the extra waste isn't ideal.
        Sodaking Australian.

  • FYI, the regular Pepsi syrup still uses artificial sweeteners.

  • +1

Pour the pepsi syrup directly into your Bourbon. No need to dilute it with water!

  • are these actually any good? I bought the mountain dew one once and it was terrible

    • Pepsi Max is the only one I get, 90% the same as the real thing. Plain soda water is the go usually.

  • No Coles I've been to even has Pepsi Max

    • That's the experience I always have when these go on special.

  • If anyone is still chasing the Pepsi Max, apparently it's getting restocked late Tues nigt, just in time for it NOT to be on sale Wednesday. A relative said you can get a raincheck and it's good for 30 days.

    • Plenty instore at Richmond Traders if anyone sees this… and it happens to be your local :P
