    • interested. any particular course you would recommend that can lead to well-paid employment?

  • Does anyone know if the fee free 2023 means any units completed in 2023 will be free and any remaining units you complete in 2024 you'll have to pay for? Orrr is it the course you enrol in?

It's a fee free course not fee free subjects so as long as you start in 2023 I don't see it being an issue

  • Time to make myself smrter

  • Does this use up SLE?

  • gee, very limited compared to the free tafe courses nsw is offering

How I Found Out: I'm studying a diploma course (out of pocket) and received a text saying I qualify for Fee-Free TAFE Funding. Being a New Zealander, I can't get student or government loans. But it seems things have changed since I started on January 23, and now even New Zealanders like me can qualify. Lots of courses have become eligible for this, so it's definitely worth checking out.

Another bonus: Refunds and payment plans

If you’ve already paid course fees or signed up to a TAFE Queensland payment plan, your fees will be refunded and any future payment plan instalments will be cancelled.

The problem is actually registering for them. I applied in Dec for Feb intake for Cyber Sec, the got back to me in March & said i was to late. So u applied for July, they got back to me 2wks ago & said you're in. 5 days ago, left a msg that they're not running the course any more and I'm to late to apply for the next nearest campus.

      Brothels, breweries and tafeQLD

        • -1

          No that's been cancelled too

          • -1

@M00Cow: I start the course tomorrow, I applied for it last month, it shouldn't be cancelled?

            • @Datafend: They called last Monday to say it was cancelled…a week after asking if I still wanted to enroll. Whas it FNQ? Because GC, Bris were all campus.

              • @M00Cow: Yes FNQ, online, I guess campus is different with not having enough people.

Are you wanting to do online?

                • @Datafend: No I down for the FNQ online. They said the course was cancelled as of last Monday.

                  • @M00Cow: That's bizarre, I definitely am starting tomorrow nothing's been said of this intake being cancelled.

I wonder what's going on there

        • they all seem to have campus work too?

          • @191919: That makes sense for labs. But FNQ was supposed to be fully online some how.

      • +2

Usually this is due to a lack of numbers necessary to run the course. I did a tafe course earlier this year which had a whopping 5 people. It almost got canned.

New Zealand should just become part of Queensland.

      • +8

And Bali WA, then we're golden!

      • -2

Very harsh on New Zealand to taint its beauty with QLD

      • -1

Both Queensland and NZ where part of NSW.

    • Thanks OP!

Anyone else getting, Connection Error "There has been a connection issue. If this issue persists, please contact your system administrator."?

    • -8

These are NOT free. You still have to pay some fees, mine were around $600 and the rest you'll pay in taxes. So if you're wondering why the price of groceries just went up $50 - $100 a week it's because of all the "free" things the government is "giving you"

      • +6

I'm not sure if that's the way it works. But government cash handouts do risk impacting inflation, not sure if cheap/free tafe fees do.

This is to get people into jobs and careers, which is a good thing, not free cost of living/pandemic handouts which get spent on 'TVs'

        • +1

I spent mine on ketamine thank you

      • +3

It’s because of war, housing crisis, and corporate greed

      • -1

Ah yes, da guberment did it all!

      • yeah, totally free TAFE which is causing prices to rise. not corporate greed, and certainly not the Australia’s nuclear submarine program that will cost up to $368 billion over the next three decades,

    • +3

The graphic design diploma is pretty good. Not world class or anything, but taught by people who have lots of professional experience in design. Not exactly easy though, unless you already have experience with design.

      • +2

That's the beauty of Tafe, it's cheap/free and lectured by people who actually work(ed) in the field. Decades ago I ran a night class there and the lecturing experience can be as rewarding as being a student.

I'm also an IT tafee from decades ago

    • -7

That is why dan andrews going to increase taxes.

      • +6

        Because of QLD Tafe?

    • Bummer - The Diploma of IT (Advanced Networking and System Administration, Advanced Networking and Cloud Engineering, Advanced Programming) can't be studied online. Yet the Diploma of IT (Back End Web Development and Front End Web Development) can.

    • +1

Nothing is for free, what about politicians using the money to build homes instead of giving away taxpayers money to useless qualifications

      • +1

"Useless"? Can you cite an example?

    • +1

Anyone personally in an industry, that you feel has decent pay, but struggling to find people to work with/for you? -And could probably get the job after doing a Diploma course listed on here?

I mean I could probably do a rough guess using job sites but would like to hear from members here who are having trouble finding staff.

So.how many ozbargainers signing up just for the .edu email and discount at education store.

    • Can this be done online ? We are in Victoria and my wife is on partner visa 309 and will get PR in 2 years. It seems she is eligible to study this course for free.

Anyone knows if any Victorian provider offer free aged care course for partner visa students ?

      https://tafeqld.edu.au/course/18/18160/certificate-iii-in-in…

      • +1

        She isn’t a Queensland resident.

        • +1

Ok Got it. Anyone knows is in Victoria she can be eligible for free aged care course or subsidised?

          • @pluto: Cert 4 in aging support. Check the free Tafe course list drop down from Vic gov. https://www.vic.gov.au/free-tafe

            • @helloeverybody: Can’t see if Temporary residents are eligible on vic page as it is mentioned on this deal page.

“To be eligible for Fee-Free TAFE funding, you must be:

an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.

              • @pluto: Check the course list of providers and call their customer support to check eligibility. I did that for cert IV cybersecurity via Vic uni and they could confirm for me.

    • +3

COol… So a free way to get a .edu email?

ALso what are some recommended courses for those of us who actually want to study?

      • wait what's this about can you explain

    • +1

Signed up for two (Blockchain and Justice). Thanks, OP.

      • +1

I don't think you can do two for free?

        • +1

Yeah, I wasn't sure, as they ask whether you're already enrolled on any other course in the fee-free eligibility questionnaire. But, no matter, as others have recounted above, one of them may end up cancelled. Otherwise, they'll probably make me choose one; that's fine.

    • If I sign up but drop out (due to sudden life events), can I re-enrol again in the same course fee-free?

    • +1

When did this start and why? If it was for industries with critical skills I get it but fee free for Diploma of Photoimaging (just an example)? I ran this course for a decade at TAFE QLD and it was around $1000 concession or $2000 full fee. International students paid around $15k from memory. Then around 2015 fees went up for all students to over $10k per annum and now its free? There is no shortage of photographers or digital imaging specialists!

      • Does increased competition worry you?

        • +1

No, Im retired,I had a successful photography career for over 20 years but it was obvious digital was going to wreak havoc on the market so I transitioned primarily into teaching when the opportunity arose.
However the influx of 20 or so new photographers each year into a regional area which was already overserviced with photographers caused plenty of tension and resentment amongst quite a few of the established pros in our area.

          • @mauricem: They couldn't hold their own against the young incomers? People here just don't get market competition, do they?
