      Alright, here you go!

  • +12

It appears loot boxes have made it to real life. What a time to be alive.

    • +8

well, by law they need to show the % to obtain each item in the loot box. The "system" from OnlineComputer could be Joe from handling department handing out over stocked crap brand.

      • Link says ‘equally divided chance’

        • +4

Do you actually believe that crap? How do you regulate it? Do you just blindly trust anything said by anybody?

          • +2

@Smilence03: Whether it’s true or not is beyond my pay grade.

  • +8

Petrol was under $1 before covid? Maybe if you had a time machine.

    • It does, just rarely and should not be used as a standard price.

    • +4

      Suppose that's technically the truth.

(And yes, people are complaining about fuel price increases. What was even the point of that comment)

      • Yep, 20 years before COVID.

    • -1

      Yes I do have one.

  • +1

Random loot boxes for the card that isn't selling well atm 😅 I guess people gotta get creative

    EA approves this post !

  • +12

Great price, but I don't support the lucky dip practice here.

I highly doubt they'll give out Strix models.

  • +22

Don't be sour grape and neg and whine if this is out of your budget.

There’s a difference between not being able to afford something and being smart enough to see that spending $2000 on a single component to play video games isn’t the smartest financial decision.

    • -2

What do you say to all the people who buy fancy peripherals like racing setups, flight sticks or heck, even ultra high end gaming monitors?

You want the best, you pay for it. If you can afford it, it doesn't matter what you think of the decision.

    • For many (most are just quiet in the corner type), money is not an issue.

Those that has tight budget usually shout loudest.

      • nah, money is not an issue but that doesn't mean I have to be dumb about it and pay over the odds for something that is not worth it.
then you have those that upgrade every year on release too….they should be in a special corner

  • +2

    Rather expensive gacha innit? 🤣

  • +3

Good way to get rid of colorful gpus maybe have 1 of the expensive ones not a bargain

    • +1

Colourful/Galax/Inno3D/PNY will be the vast bulk of this I am sure

  • +17

not a bargain, let us choose.

  • +3

sounds like an economical way to score a mediocre pny, colorful, or inno3d gpu i guess ..

  • +4

what's the bet nobody gets a Strix?

  • +4

I wouldn't say any of the 4080's are "worth" 23XX. May be it costs that much but nowhere close to being worth that much.

  • +8

The desperation is kicking in, stock is not moving, it is only a matter of time,

    • +3

by mid year the price falls will be well over 20%

      • Still around $1600, not $1139 like 3080. Still more negs to come?

        • +2

nah, id pull the trigger at $1500

  • +8

When they say random, assume the worst.

  • +3

There are cards selling for less than $1,999. No deal.

    • where? pls link

  • +4

Im complaining about this from petrol station

  • +5

I wonder if the terribly valued 4080 series was used as a tactic to push people to buy their overstocked 3080s

  • +5

loot box is not a bargain - not at this price anyway

  • +6

Loot boxes are not a bargain, no sour grapes, a bad deal all round.

  • +6

Not commenting about gpu price but paying that amount and don't know what you're getting is not a deal.

  • +2

Initially thought it was decent, but I'd rather not take a 100$ discount (over amazon) and risk getting a colorful/galax/pny model. Also Marc set me straight, if GN is right on the money 4080 buyers should wait till Feb.

    • -4

Amazon has easy return and warranty service. Probably the easiest amongst all resellers.

I'm surprised they sell 4080 for $2099, usually price is jacked up there.

Why you're negging this deal if the amazon is $100 dearer?

      • +5

$100 to choose the card they actually want, instead of getting a crappy "mystery" card.

    • whats wrong with PNY?

  • -5

The orcs are now here (puts helmet on)

    • -4

yeah they just woken up, probably mum and dad told them get out from bed.

      • -3

Might be more fitting to call them the red army

  • +5

What the (profanity) are those prices! $2399 for 4080? Are we still in the chip shortage and mining era? You can buy 4090 from luke for a tad more (even that I dont recommend).

CPU price, mother board price, memory prices, SSD price are all falling. Why should GPU increase? lol.

      • +8

I have still Full 5 remaining! I can start with your comment.

        • -1

its getting hot, better start your morning jog.

  • +3

No more coin miners, no more buyers

    • Then the price should go back down to pre-mining era. WTF were they thinkin?

  • +3

I am here to complain about the petrol. Cost me over $100 to put in 3/4 of a tank yesterday. Please list more things that are also horribly priced and I will complain about them too. Cars? Jesus, don't get me started. No one should buy a car at the moment either if they can avoid it

    • Managed to upgrade my car, now the flux capacitor is running on banana skin and soft drink cans.

      • You'd have to be travelling back to 2015 to access this type of technology

    • +1

The other day it cost me nearly $140 for a tank of 95. X_X

Making me actually consider grabbing a pre-owned Prius.

  • +4

"Lucky dip" is silly for an in-stock purchase.

Some of these 4080s are known to have hideous coil whine (read reports of ASUS being the main culprit). Some prevent changing of power limits.

Assuming this is permanently the price of this class of GPU, this is a big purchase even for those who can afford it. Let us choose (and then lower the price of the models that aren't as popular).

  • Wonder what the process is for DOA. Do they pay shipping back to them and is then another random card sent?

  • +1

This is just terrible value. It's still terrible value if it had equal chance of getting a wanted or unwanted card.

  • Bad deal. Don’t try.

  • Thanks I bought 3 to replace my 3 PS3s

  • +2

Bad deal, no % breakdown and it’s not even a savings thus not a deal

  • Not a good deal

  • +2

"Don't be sour grape and neg and whine" just shut up and let us scam people into buying the lowest quality cards that we can't sell.

    • +1

Exactly my thought. I am negging this due to the stupid price and this so call 'equally chance' without any real evidence.

Don't be sour grape when people negging your deal OP

  • +3

Didn't see the mentioning of "Rod" and "$500 budget", but still seeing the whining about getting negged. So this deal isn't great, and we have no way of knowing of their stock availability, their drawing chance, their honesty etc. I made a discussion post here asking people's opinion on whether it is a good idea to buy one of these "lucky dips" promo, and the overwhelming feedback is not to.

From that, TimeMachine seemed to have then discovered there is a $1999 4080 deal, thus this OP.

Still, nothing special about this deal, but rather highly risky for people to be easily offloaded with a PNY/Galax/INNO3D etc low end crappy models. It then clicked to me that the intention of this post is not to show people a real or good deal, but to agitate the already chaotic GPU discussion on OzB, and to troll around with people's reactions and discussions. Will be negging this

    • +2

Probably hit the nail on the head. He's pulled similar stunts in the past under his old account.

    • OP "discovered" it here yesterday

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13209726/redir

It's an interesting marketing tactic and is sure to catch some people out. Those that like the gamble or to feel lucky.

But Online Computer are in business and will need to be breaking even or making money on this deal so the proportions of lower value cards will need to significantly outweigh the provision of the higher end cards.

I'm surprised these offers don't fall under competition/raffle laws as you are effectively buying the chance to win something.. Not a straight transaction for a product or service. Can't find the T+C on the website, but maybe that's because I'm on the phone.

That being said, I have in the past, and will continue in the future, just not this "deal"

      • The only T+C on that website is a generic copy&paste T+C that can be found everywhere on Google: Website Terms of Use

In the product page, it states that "T$C applied", but NO product-specific T&C can be found anywhere. Highly risky, uncreditable, and super dodgy.

In fact, judging by a number of factors on the website, Online Computer is highly unlikely to be owned by a local Aussie business(but as Chinese background). Good luck arguing with them about ACL, and the license to operate competition/raffle.

    • Actually, the PNY 4080 is pretty amazing.

  • $2000 raffle ticket.
    That's a NO from me.

  • +1

Lol, what a shady business practice. So you get to clear your stock and we will to feel lucky?

When AMD announced 7900 series, we thought they would be the saviour. But they are just one of the duopoly and increased their price as such. There is no real competition in the market.

  • +3

Did TimeMachine become the new Non-LHR?

    • +1

      Are they the same person?

      • +3

Not sure, but TimeMechine's account was only created back in September last year. Most of his activities and comments so far are mostly trolling people around and agitating stuff up under GPU related posts.

      • +5

All signs point to yes. He makes the exact same comments he used to (with the same choice of language) and the new account was made at around the same time his old one started getting sin binned.

        • Was TimeMachine the person who posted this "deal"? The OP is showing as DisabledUser444976 to me.

          • @bronan: Yep. Looks like he got suspended or banned or something.

  • It would be funny if you have a chance to win a "2nd chance draw".

  • -3

Damn, the worst deal ever, either its the lucky dip or the price or both.

    • Wouldn't be surprised if the items were customer-returns.

  • If I'm spending $2k on a card, I'd rather spend a little more and get a brand I know rather than chance it on some lucky dip.

It says it's random, but it's probably random among all the stock they have - so heavily weighted to cheaper brands which are around the $2k mark anyway.

    Not a bargain imo

    • If you are ok with a cheap card it is a good deal. Aren't the cheap ones 2k already? At least you have a chance to get a more expensive card. Probably extremely low chance but better than none.

I would be concerned with aftermarket support though.

  • insert this gpu at this price into your _______

  • I'd much rather pay a few hundred extra to get the card I want…` and then spend $10 on a powerball ticket.

The law states that the time and value of this raffle requires a permit, I bet they don't have one.

  • Anything more then 1900 is just price gouging will be around 1700 on sales days when they realise they cant move hyper inflated stock

  • Reminds me of techfast

  • Couldn't you just send it back unopened under consumer law for a refund if you didn't like the one you got?

  • ozGambling? Hard pass, no.
