I dont recommend these chairs to surf the web

Better off getting a proper computer chair

supporting a maximum capacity of 120kg

      Not suitable for OzBargainers anyway…

At this price you can get one for each cheek, jv

Thanks OP, got 2. Also bought the table which is also on sale for $69.

    • +3

What is your use case for the table?

The table is far too heavy to hike with but if camping out of a car would you not just use a better camping table?

      • +3

Put my desktop PC to surf the web. JK

I want something compact that will just stay in the boot and use it for beach, camping etc..

    • Oh look at that… how cute… a pretend table.

  • Not suitable to surf the [spider] web as well…. too sticky :D

Serious mode: ON - ordered for kids' camping activities. Thanks OP!

FWIW I have found these to be good value - https://www.bunnings.com.au/marquee-compact-travel-chair_p03… - $22.90

    • +3

MD's will be much better value in the long run. No comparison when it's comes to quality.

      • +1

Bought one of these Mountain Designs chairs. Not very compact compared to other chairs of this style that I have. Doesn't look like particularly good quality either, but we'll see.

    • +1

Yeah having tried both I would get the Bunnings one
      850g vs 1020g
      $22.90 vs $29.99
And I found the Bunnings one more comfortable.
850g is about the lightest you’ll find outside of a $100+ helinox chair zero

      • +1

The missing ‘sand foot’ in the Bunnings one might account for the total weight difference in part. I wouldn’t be surprised if they both come out of the same factory though.

      • Does it have a bar that jams into the underneath of your legs? Most fold up chairs have this (like the top "v" of an "X") and they're so uncomfortable.

      • Helinox also pack down to half the size of this.

  • +1

    This one suitable for beach?

    • +1

Nah it would sink straight into the sand.
Edit: Maybe with the sand foot they mention.

      • Cheers.

      • +1

        Which this one has

      • +2

I have these. The sand mat works really well.. Great for kids.
Little compact for me at 6 foot and 90kgs

    • In theory it is. Comes with a little matt that can be attached to the feet. I haven't tried it

Heavy duty rubber feet provide exceptional grip on hard ground while a removable Velcro sand foot distributes weight for greater stability on softer surfaces

    • You want the low chairs, but not the ones that sit directly on the sand

  • +4

Perfect for the Reddit gamers whose wives control their lives

    • +3

Only if it fits the interior…The struggle is real

      • +2

        I, too, understand this reference.

(Can't believe some guys need to game on a fold out chair)

        • Just need a deal on a new PlayStation after my kids knocked it onto the ground.

I've tried a few of these chairs and never found a comfortable one - the low back means you're bum's seated but you need to hold your back up and can't relax - might as well just sit on a log or rock or the ground.

I did try a higher backed version and it was much better - bought, have taken it on a couple of hikes and was worth the extra 1500g or thereabouts it added, could sit on it all night in moderate comfort.

    • I saw that there's a footrest addition.

      • thats my life hack with this chairs… need something to put your fit up… any camping box does the trick

and they are not really designed for most comfort, its most portable solution for when you don't have a rock to sit on :)

      • Estimated delivery Wednesday 5 April.

        • shows as mid Feb to April for delivery..

    • Can you recommend a high back one?

      • +4

I think this is the same as mine.

Good for sitting, a bit tedious to get out of compared to a full size chair (especially after being trashed on a long day), fine for having a drink out of and reading a book but not really good for any task that requires you to lean forward like eating from a bowl of noodles.

As above, footrest might be a good help - I haven't tried that but I definitely stretch my legs out.

        • +1

I agree @afoveht. These high backed chairs are MUCH more comfy. The last thing you need is to be sitting there out camping is "yayyy I saved so much money on these chairs, but they are so uncomfortable that I don't want to sit in them for more than 5 mins"

We bought two of these, thinking they would be ok, but we returned both to Amazon. These tiny lightweight chairs may be ok for kids, but that's about it.

        • cool. matches my tent! thank you

yes totally agree - I went camping without chairs and comfort is so important! last thing I care about is saving weight or money or ease of setting up

          • +1

@ChatCPT: To confirm, I only take this when hiking. For a car (or kayak) camp a $20 bunnings / kmart job will be more comfy and usable.

        • Cool good to know. These days I just lie on the ground or up against a tree. Takes a while to find the right tree that slants backwards a bit. Might this chair as I get older, however.

      • Helinox Chair Zero High Back.

    • +1

Each to their own. I find these are in between the comfort of sitting on a rock vs sitting in a full camp chair. Yes you can't slouch in them but have sat in them for 1.5hrs continuous (while waiting for someone) no issues.

    • How heavy you are?

  • No drink holder?

    • +1

this is a very popular one from amazon and it does offer a small pocket

      • Sand Cover for More Terrains (Sold Separately)

Guess this brand must be the Apple of camping chairs.

At least there’s a photo with people sitting in them to give an idea of scale, which is helpful.

    • They are fairly low you can use the ground.

      They are for hiking etc

Putting this out there for people who might want a bit of back support. At the store they are $60.

    • Thanks bought one.

  • PSA!!!

I picked up a pair yesterday and just had time to look at it. Easy to assemble. Had a look at the tags out of curiosity… Wtf!?!?

WARNING: This product can expose you to DEHP, a Phthalate chemical which is known the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

Now, I don't know much about DEHP. I have seen warnings about cause cancer and birth defects in chemicals like weed killer and some other stuff.

Forgive my ignorance if I'm being a bit over sensitive, but I'll be returning these I think. Unless, someone in the know can shed more light and enlighten me?

    Pic of tag

    • +1

It does sound alarming, but if you avoid buying anything which attracts that Californian statutory warning, you might soon find yourself living in pre-industrial age conditions. It’s an example of how over-warning can actually be detrimental and desensitise people to more serious warnings.

As long as you don’t plan to lick/sniff the chair repeatedly (chair sniffers from WA might want to think twice), you’ll probably be OK.

      • Thanks for your input… I did some light reading after my post, and resonate the same sentiments as you.

  • Just received mine, not too bad, very compact when folded. https://ibb.co/jLWDyxR

I went in store and there is a huge difference between this and the helinox zero in terms of comfortability.

The mountain designs one was uncomfortable but the Helinox had much more back support. Something like in between a high back and the mountain designs one. The MD one was quite uncomfortable.
