Average OzBargainer Age

Whilst we all know the average salary of a standard ozbargainer is $250k, we do not know the average age.

So, how old are you?

    • +95

      OP could have

      • +8

        Doing God's work

      • +1

I would of fixed that but you beet me 2 it

        • bone apple tea

      • +2

        Also would have accepted "could've".

        "Could of" is right out.

    • +1

I only just snuck into the previous bracket by 6 months

      • I'm less than 3 months away from the next one, makes me feel old.

      • bracket creep - the genie in the tax system - wait till I get my hands on him !

  • +9

Put a deal for depends and see how high the upvotes get

  • +13

average salary of a standard ozbargainer is $250k

    I assume this is sarcasm?

    • +27

Its a running joke - at least I think it is 😉

      • +5

Ah the Nurse couple if I recall right?

      • +5

        It's common knowledge*

      • And the one about buying a new car as a high yield investment.

        • I was just told that my old car is now a high yield investment due to scarcity collector value

        • That's just Westpac employees though.

      • So what is the actual standard ozbargainer salary, genuinely want to know

        • Most have already retired lol from the profits

    • +4

No - whirlpool forums is leaking again

    • +4

How else do we afford the high yield investment motor vehicles?

    • -1

Depends what circles you run in. I have a bunch of friends who (as a couple) are on 400-600k but I totally appreciate that this isn't the 'norm'

    • Not sarcasm at all. In another poll only 10% of OzBargainers were bothered about inflation. Expensive items like Tesla, $18,000 TVs and $3000 video cards attract a lot of interest on OzBargain. Posts like that have no relevance to the lower class.

      • +3

A software engineer who is 23 years old earning $100k and lives at home can easily have a lot of disposable income. Nothing to do with "lower class" or "upper class" bs.

    • +4

It is sarcasm. Average salary of standard ozbargainer is $350k.

    • We've found the one bringing the average down.

  • +2

    Just ticked over 36.

  • +4

I read somewhere in one of the transparency reports or site stats that the average age of OzBargain use was 33.7 or something like that.

    • +1

The average age of the wider community is 38, so I guess online things skew younger.

  • I can understand the relevance of income, in relation to a bargain site. But I can't see any relevance for age, unless someone can inform me.

    • +3

Income is associated with age, disposable income even more so. The prime consumer is someone young enough not to have children but old enough to earn a big salary.

      • Good points.
It doesn't cover the whole population though; there are sub-groups that have very high levels of disposable income regardless of age (e.g. parts of the gay population who don't want children), and then there are those in older age groups who downsize and make a huge profit on the sale of their existing home.
There may also be those (regardless of age or dependants) with sufficient disposable income that they can't be bothered looking for bargains; they just buy stuff.

thanks for not leaving me hanging, 1 hr 42, was beginning to worry.

    • +1

There are a few in the 12-16 year old bracket indeed.

  • +1

$250? Pfft, that was a few years ago before I got a pay rise! Now it’s $250,020!

    • +2

you forgot to round up to the nearest 50k

  • +16

    Weird poll options.

Something like this would be easier to read:

    20-29
    30-39
    40-49
    50-59
    60-69

    • +8

Easier to read, certainly, but obviously would not give OP the incisive level of detail that they are looking for.

      • +1

Problem is, it's hard to know, for example, whether there are more people in their 20s or 40s due to the weird options. Heaps of ozbargainers might be 40, but are clicking on the 36-40 option. Same with the 26-30 option. Many of them may be 30, and should be grouped in the 30-39 range.

        • +1

          It doesn't matter anyway.

        • +9

It's driving me mad that the bucket sizes are inconsistent!

          4 2 3 3 4 5 5 5 10 10 10 10

      • You can tell by the age brackets they thought everyone was younger, hence so many in the pre/teen category, but largely ignoring older ones.

  • +3

I would say around late 40s, standard age to buy a Tesla. :)

    • +2

I'd have thought an average Tesla buyer would be younger tbh? Average lower level white collar job, lives at home, drives a Tesla to save the planet (lol, na it's just for traffic light drags).

      • Yes. All the old farts around here (well most) hate Teslas.

      • Most I seen has some white hair, maybe they getting old fast? :)

  • +13

I took 10% off with Cashrewards.

    • +1

Price (age) match with OW for another 5% off.

  • $250K average salary? Bloody hell, I fall well short of that!

    • +5

And that was several years ago. These days it would be much higher

    • +2

Most of us earn $350K, so your wage justs brings down the average a little bit.

      • Must be a joke….?

    • wadiyatalkinabeet

    • The Liberal party would say you're lazy or not working hard enough.

  • +5

Moving up an age bracket when filling out forms like this always stings a little

    • +19

In this day and age, you can tick the box with the age range that you "feel"! lol

      • +3

That comment made me laugh and cringe.
        Take my upvote.

        • +3

I cringed myself while writing that!

    • Just think as you are leveling up :)

  • +2

Remember, most females take 10 years off their age.

    • +4

And look nothing like their photo. Most blokes add $100k to their income and 6 inches to their height.

      • +10

Their height isn’t the only thing they add 6 inches to.

        • +6

          They meant horizontal

      • At 188cm I have no need to add anything. What Ghost47 mentioned I have no comment.

        • Donald Trump. Is that you?

  • No option for <12?
I know, mum shouldn't let me access the internet at that age….

  • +4

Good to see the 81+ age bracket representing

    • +7

I think people are using that as the bikies option

    • Aiming to be the richest people in the graveyard.

  • +1

Where's the 11 and under category you ageist!

I taught my kids from an early age that Santa buys the present he cannot make from ozbargain.

  • +2

Agreed, need the 11 and under bracket since I started OzBargaining from the womb.

  • +1

According to my username I am in the over 81+ category.

  • Seems like the bargains peak when you are in your golden double income no kids years.

Before and after this life is just not the same (i guess way less disposable income)

  • Good ol bell curve!

A lot of old farts around here. It explains so much.

    • DISPOSABLE INCOME BABY.

    • +2

Fr now I understand the weird negative attitude the site has towards YouTubers and TikTok lol

      • And everything else in general.

      • +1

What, that they’re vapid and degenerate? Seems like a valid attitude.

      • -1

        And lefties.

    • The old farts are the ones with the cash, so be nice to us.

      • You're right about that. All us younger folk are using cards everywhere.

  • +5

    Joined this site when I was 20, now I'm 30…. time flies….

  • +13

I was 13 and broke when I first found OzBargain. I was excited thinking it would help me become a successful, financially responsible person. Well, I'm 23 now and still broke, just with a collection of random shit I never use. ¯\(ツ)/¯

    • Have you considered becoming brand ambassador?

  • Ah, it’s nice to see my age group is well represented :-) It’s probably because we settled down, have kids in single digits and we all went through trying to find the cheapest pram and baby/kid stuff.

It’s so nice to be a parent; every company, service, airline is doubling their price.

Thanks OzBargain for saving me that 10% and stacking the next 3!

  • Good to see some 81+ers hunting for those bargs.
