Back again with another Topton Mini PC and this one (X2C) is a newer than the X2B in the previous deal with a few new features. This includes a USB-C port for 4K@60Hz display output & data transfer, microSD card slot, CMOS reset button, 4pin fan header with temp control, M.2 2232 to support WiFi 6/6E, TPM 2.0 and cooling vents on the bottom. However it has lost the COM port and SIM slot.

These Mini PCs are a good option for those interested in OPNsense, pfsense, Home Assistant, Win10/11, Linux etc. The Intel Celeron N5105 4 core/4 thread CPU can decode a lot of 4K, HDR and VP9 content thanks to the Intel UHD graphics, making this a good media player as well.

    Without RAM and storage this price point becomes a lot more difficult to justify. This particular deal is now 20% more than the first one a week or so ago.

      Yeah the core of the PC remains but still quite a jump. Some people may see the value in price differences between the X2, X2B and X2C which all have more improvements, while others not.

      It's all about giving options 😉

            You want me to provide an option? Sure. A 5-port 2.5Gbe switch and a RasPi 4 kit could be had for the same price, and you don't need to add RAM nor storage.

                @Clear: Neither of those deals are in stock as listed on OzBargain. They both now only have options including RAM and storage, and both are more expensive than the listed barebones because of it.

                Cynical dealhunters might think that Topton is pricejacking, by only offering the more expensive options over these three listings now that they've got some good exposure…

                  I figure the stores have a certain amount of RAM/storage allocated to the PCs and wouldn't want to end up with a heap and no PCs.

      Eh, I'd prefer bare-bones if possible. The RAM/SSDs are often of questionable origin. Buying sticks of used DDR3 SODIMM and 120-240gb SSDs on eBay is more cost efficient, if you're buying something like this device you're probably more than competent to do this

      Yes you can do. As you have a Plex Pass you can make use of hardware transcoding with intel quicksync should you need it.

          Jump on the Plex/Reddit/Whirlpool forums. Plenty of info and FAQs answered on there. Basically in a nutshell if you have an intel CPU with an iGPU (integrated graphics) and Plex Pass you can do hardware transcoding via QuickSync which is supported by Plex. It's a much more efficient way of transcoding compared to software only CPU transcoding.

          They're like a little computer which is built primarily for storing data and doing it relatively safely as they will have fail-safes like multiple disks to mirror the data (called RAID). Many are powerful enough to run applications such as Plex, security camera recording…

          It's like the shared drive or whatever you might have at work. Any computer or device on your network can access it. You will probably be able to access it with your tv. They are usually fairly simple to set up. A handy site is nascompares.com or even just have a quick look at Wikipedia.

        Once you have a NAS look up: Docker, Radarr, Sonarr, Prowlarr, qBittorrent.

        USB-C can do 12v, 20v etc via USB Power Delivery. Sadly most of these budget PCs don't do it.

    Just an FYI for people thinking about buying from this company on Aliexpress

    I was buying another model that had from a previous deal

    First transaction I used with the code and it said it failed and still took my money and waiting for a refund on that one now

    I tried again without the code and it went through alright, I bought it when it was in stock and I sent a follow up message asking if I could get express postage

    They replied

    "Sorry Dear, this product is now out of stock, please cancel your request". They also took the money for this one as well

    So now I'm waiting for 2 refunds which says it will take 3-10 days to complete

    So you've been warned :)

      Depends on what you use as the OS and how it's configured.

      IMHO, the only reason you'd need something like this for a network router is to do CPU-intensive things (perhaps running an IPS or terminating multiple VPNs).

      This IS a conventional PC.

      It'll have exactly the same network latency as any other machine running the same network card.

    Anyone running something similar got an opinion if the 6005 would have enough guts to run a Home assistant + OPN Sense + a Minecraft server?

      You can use these as a router/firewall with OPNsense of pfsense, so having a few LAN ports is good for connecting a lot of network devices. As for 2.5G, you'll get faster transfer speeds if you have devices with 2.5G LAN ports, e.g. a lot of current gen motherboards do and many popular NAS models do too.

      For many people 2.5G is still overkill and 1G would suffice. For a lot of these niche uses you don't really need faster CPUs, but there are other models that offer 11th gen i3/i5/i7's and even Xeon's.

      I personally have a 2.5G switch with 2.5G on most of my PCs and my NAS drives. Certainly makes local file transfers (e.g. backups) much quicker.

        Ahhh awesome. I didn't realise you could use them as a router. I run wifi 6e across my house with server and personal desktop on the 2.5gb Ethernet ports and using the 6e spectrum for the back-haul. So it is probably not of use for me but thank you for explaining.
