  • What is your recommended recipe for an 18g basket?

    • +3

      18gm coffee IN

      • Perhaps I should clarify: what espresso ratio would you recommend?

        • +2

2:1 in 30s is pretty common and good starting point, set brew temp to say 93/94c

    • do you have it in milk based drinks (latte, cap, etc…)?

18g beans in, 36g out in about 25-30 sec

get a scale and a calibrated tamp. coffee distributor is great, but not necessary.

    • +10

So a nice coffee bean delivered by express post, hmmm, I would have to disagree.

      • +1

Yeah sure, with express post is good deal.

    • +1

Keep whinging that will take your life to the right place rizmut :)

      • I had a good whinge this morning when a red P plater tried to push me into oncoming traffic and then gave me the finger multiple times. I felt better afterwards. I hope she did too.

      • +1

Lol, if you look at their post, this is like almost fortnightly or monthly. So im not sure it’s bargain anymore. But shrug

        • Their regular discounts are 30% off though, 40% might be every 2 months?

          • +1

@TEER3X: Ah right, fair enough. Good deal then

          • @TEER3X: Sumatra has a higher price than the rest of the range, therefore it often gets its own extra 10%

          • @TEER3X: Discounts of what please? Is anyone looking at the dollar price or just hunting the biggest "discount"?

I unexpectedly ran out of coffee yesterday and really needed it so decided to try the Aldi stuff after seeing so many comments about its quality. Suffice to say, I cannot wait to be finished with it and get back to Airjo.

    • What did you get and how did you make it?

      • Lazzio Dark put through my cappuccino machine. I mean they're fine and I wouldn't discourage people buying it at $12/kg, but I'll stick to Airjo's offerings when possible.

        • Ah I see. I'm just getting in to coffee but I feel it's one of those things where it's very dependant on personal taste and the process used. Besides the beans used that is.

        • I never thought to try Lazzio Dark as its a mix of Robusta and Arabica beans, unlike the S.O. and Lazzio medium roast which are 100% Arabica.

        • I use the Lazzio dark , but I use it in a drip machine with a paper filter and quite like the taste. I guess it might be less suitable when in an espresso machine, or just different tastes.

    • +2

      Hi mate,

I've used Airjo for the last 12 months and it's been great. Like you, I saw the comments and thought I'd give Aldi a go at some stage. While I was there, I found their SO gift packs of 4x250g varieties on sale for $15 and have been pretty happy so far! I think I'll do a mix between both moving forward.

  • Ordered, thanks again

  • Thanks for the awesome deal!

  • +3

I personally wasn't a fan. It wasn't bad, had a nuce flavour. Just was quite weak. My go to is Inglewood Sunset Blvd. I've tried quite a few other blends suggested on OzB but keep going back to Inglewood.
I really wanted to like this. I might try another blend if others go on sale.

    • I had a french press Sunset Boulevard this morning. I couldn't taste any of the almond, marshmallow, white chocolate, or malt, but it was a very fine cup indeed.

It is a great movie too.

      • +1

I can never taste the specific tasting notes in coffee. But I just know to go for those kinds of notes and steer clear of fruity and spice ones as I never like those. I don't have sugar in my coffee, so I find these types of notes give a natural sweeter taste. I'm currently 2/3 of the way through my Sunset Blvd bag and trying to find a new coffee to give a try.
I like Inglewoods Roosevelt too but not as much as Sunset.

    • +1

Maybe try the enterprise blend once they have a sitewide sale again

      • +1

It's the only coffee I've bought that I've binned. I found it undrinkable. The Sumatra I liked the first time I bought it.

        • I agree, I found it too strong for my taste and stuck to the Sumatra blend

      • I was thinking of giving that one a go :)

    • Sunset's showing up as $38 for 500g + postage, versus $21.78 for this.

At twice the price, I'm not sure they're even in the same market.

      • Inglewood has great sales, I get it at 50% off, when I first bought it I paid $25 for a kg. The last 2kg I bought was $27.50/kg. I burn through the bags so quickly and find myself not buying coffee at cafes when I have a bag.

  • +4

This is not a jab at people who like this, thats fine.

But this was disapointing when I have 2kg recently (december). Even their lightest roasts are too dark/bitter for me.

I would recommend lime blue instead when it comes around.

    • +1

Yeah I was about to post about that. I find the roasting way too dark for my taste, which loses all of the character. For those that don't care about that kind of thing, it's still great quality product.

    • +4

I personally hated the Lime Blue blend I tried. I was so dissapointed as so many people on here rave about it. I got about 1/4 through the ba ive never not finished a bag as coffee is pricey but I chucked it in the freezer and never touched it since :(

      • Are you for real? Can I get the bag plz.

        • Yes, I was shocked. I just couldn't get a good brew out of it. I could barely taste coffee. I even doubled my dose and it still tasted so weak. I got the Peru Single Origion bavk in June I think and its still sitting in my freezer after many attempts to get a decent cup. It didn't taste bad or anything but not enjoyable and found myself buying coffees at cafes instead of making them.
I would like to give them another shot with a different one though :)

    • Different people different taste for sure. I don’t find it bitter at all.

    • +1

Darker roast vs lighter roast taste preference. I also prefer lime blue. Their coffee is a bit more conducive to 'specialty' tastes. Probably worth noting however that it's a fair bit more difficult to get the most out of a light roast in terms of proper extraction. You need higher brew temps and finer grinds so if you're grinding with a glorified pepper mill and extracting at 84 deg with a pod machine then likely you will have an excessively acidic and lifeless brew.

  • Thanks OP was running low!

    • +1

Nah, OP told me he wasn't running low.

  • +3

Interesting to see consecutive comments above, one saying it's too weak, the other saying it's too strong. Highlights how individual coffee taste is (as well as different blends).

    • +2

and how much inconsistencies there are with brewing, even when people use the exact same machines.

    • +3

Yup, I like reading the comments here to remind myself that coffee has an incredibly diverse audience. I'll happily spend $30 for 150g of highly graded specialty coffee, but you won't catch dead me paying $30 for 1kg. I know I won't enjoy it.

I do wish people thought more about the ethics of their coffee purchases though. Coffee is a highly exploitative industry, with strong colonial roots. Airjo don't do anything to change that.

  • Great brew

  • Any deal for Decaf?

    • Dealcaf.

  • +2

Suggest you check the weight of your bags, have come through twice now for me <1kg.

    • hey there bargainatoraah - genuinly sorry and surprised that you have found this.
Please let us know the orders numbers and the weights so we can review the process of each for you and try and help.
This certainly shouldn't happen once, let alone twice given the systems and equipment at our facility.
Please email me directly when it suits at [email protected]

      Kind Regards
      Dan

  • Are these oily beans? I was told not to use oily beans..

  • Great coffee, great deals!
Always comes along when I just need more beans :)

I liked the Timor blend. Hopefully this is as good.

  • I have tried Thunderchild Blend using breville bes840 the infuser didnt taste or come out right anyone recommend a different blend with this machine i use abit of milk

    • If you can adjust the temperature on the machine then it's likely not the coffee

  • Where's the Aldi coffee guy?

    • -1

Last Seen 2 hours 14 min

  • Did you know that I was looking at deals for coffee beans this morning or is this just a lucky coincidence?
Either ways - ordered! It's the fourth or fifth blend of yours we try. We like you 💝

  • Any special coming for stargazer? I am running low.

  • Can you do 2x500g for $33.57

    • If you select 500gm bag x 2 its $43.56, Why don't you buy 1kg bag for $33.57 and save $10?

      • One bag for the freezer, one bag to drink for three weeks

  • I've got Coffee Pods and a manual grinder (so far only used pre-ground). Would this be a good bean to try?

    • +1

Yes, nothing beat freshly roasted beans.

    • I did this for a while using the Sealpod for my old Nespresso machine and I can say that fresh beans do taste a lot nicer than pre-ground coffee. I've tried Sumatra and Enterprise beans from Airjo. Problem is I could only fit about 5g of coffee in the pod and found the extraction to still be quite weak. I would say it is worth trying especially if you already have a manual grinder but I think getting these beans are a bit overkill in your case.
Recently upgraded to the breville dual boiler and so far getting excellent results with Aldi coffee beans. Keen to try Sumatra again to see how it compares.

You missed the 1-2-3 deal last week.

      • Do you have an OzBargain link?

Bummer. Will fix it next time. Soon. :)

    • +7

Is it really on sale when it's always on sale?

      • It is like petrol price cycles

      • +7

Not really! Hyped up price and then give a big discount…

      • +3

This sale is worst than Kathmandu. Sale every other week. $60+ non sale price for a kg of beans is either highway robbery or its infused with gold.

      • I don't understand your point. Would you like them to stop offering discount? I am not trying to defend their business model but I am assuming they can afford to sell at a lower price at times for a target audience. This doesn't mean they can offer the same price every day for everyone.

        • Do you work at EB Games by any chance?

    • +11

If they're always on sale, then they're never actually on sale.

I'm surprised people have tolerated the spam for this long.

      • +12

Agree this has become spam at this point

      • +5

Second. This is not a real deal… There is even a guy that always lists out all the past "deals" every time they post one. I'm just surprised they can get away with advertising so blatantly at this point

      • +2

        Agree. Spam - not deal.

  • I’ve got a new Breville Oracle.

Any recommendations on Grind Size, Brew Time and Brew Temp for these beans?
