  • I have to see one of these run Dreamcast smoothly. Hell most of them can struggle with N64. They all seem to have issues rendering 3D.

Anyone with hands on offer any feedback?

    • I tried crazy taxi (DC) on 351MP .. and it was not terrible I guess.

You don't buy these for smooth and stable 32-bit/64-bit console emulation, or at least you shouldn't.

With all of these off-the-shelf retro emulator handhelds, their bread and butter is anything from the 16-bit/4th-generation console era or earlier.
Even from that era of videogames, there will be notable titles that'll have the common emulation problems (CPU speed issues, crashes, screen tearing/visual artefacting, etc) which can require some tweaking to resolve.

32-bit emulation starts to get very hit and miss and can be a case of a game playing fine for a few minutes and then inexplicably crashing, crashing after a certain point/level in the game with no known fixes or running at a slideshow framerate. Anything newer than 32-bit/5th-gen is a complete crapshoot and never guaranteed to be even partially supported.

    • Less about rendering 3D directly, and more about the complexity of emulating 3D for different consoles.

Don't think of it as the device is trying to just run a N64 game, it's running a program that pretends it's actual N64 hardware, there's a lot of overhead in doing that.

This chipset runs Dreamcast and N64 without issues, there are several reviews covering performance you can watch on Youtube already.

  • Tempting but I already have a DIY Pi Zero-based Gameboy Zero I built myself and a Retroflag's GPi Case (also with a pi zero w) lol

  • Speaking of retro console emulators, whatever happened to the Bittboy?
It seems like it's no longer available anywhere.

I've still yet to see a retro handheld emulator that packed as many features into an excellent form factor for a really low price (usually sold for around $40 AUD).
It supported all of the most popular consoles from the 8/16-bit era (20 different consoles in total) with smooth/stable emulation of about 90% of titles, loads ROMs off an SD card (so you could have up to thousands of games stored on there), came pre-installed with dozens of games for each console (including some PC classics from the 90s like Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Quake, Quake II, Wolfenstein 3D) and has an incredibly crisp and bright IPS screen.

  • There are a few very old RPGs i have missed over the years…. FF6, Chrono Trigger, Vagrant Story and so on. Would this device be good to play these on? Would the text be too small? Would they all run properly?

    • +1

Small but readable. You might prefer a landscape based device with a larger screen though.

      • Anything you'd recommend off the top of your head? I'm not familiar at all with this product category

        • +3

To test I just loaded up a few SNES RPG's on my Analogue Pocket with a 3.5" screen and the text is perfectly legible. So I don't think a small screen like this deal will be an issue.

Get a switch or wait for steam deck

would love to get this. been trying to get a miyoo mini 2 but so many times ive requested refunds.

i have an old realme c3 with 128gb sd card, installed retro arch, psx emulators and use a ps4 controller with a holder wraped around it to grip the phone.

can play up to ps2 roms and i cant complain really. the ps4 controller works 100% on ps 1,2 psp psv roms plus a slight calibration mapping for other emulators like gb gba etc.

    Thanks, just pulled the trigger(s)!

  • I have this and love it. Performance is great. The OS is a little annoying but it works.

  • Is there an available game list for what is preloaded onto this device?

  • OSS :(

  • Is this better than an analogue pocket?

  • +2
