The first time I saw such a cheap 4K brand new monitor. It may have some weaknesses, but it's hard for me to say no to a price like this.

It may have some weaknesses, but it's hard for me to say no to a price like this.

It's garbage quality so you should say no for anything other than it's intended use: as a video camera monitor. This is not something to hook up to your PC, watch media or play games on. It's cheap for a reason.

    • +5

      How do you know?

      • -6

        Pretty simple:-

        1) The marketing for the monitor is clear it's for video camera use.

        2) 300 cd/㎡ brightness is low.

        3) 1000:1 contrast ratio is low.

        4) No sRGB or other colour accuracy.

        5) No HDR (although common in other low range monitors).

Anyone that thinks this monitor "looks good", doesn't know what "good" is.

          LOL

@O O: this guy hybroid knows absolutely nothing

ask yourself why a 'dedicated' nvr monitor has game freesync

i'm not disputing this isnt a cutting edge monitor and you'd be dumb to expect it for under $200

the reality is the market, even in china, isnt big enough to come up with 'dedicated' nvr monitors.. what dahua does is rebadge standard PC monitors so they can bundle them with a full dahua nvr install…

why would you be expecting hdr in a cheap va monitor??? those specs are par for the course for these units

why would you be expecting a va monitor to 'look good'… its a friggin' va monitor

I have a dahau 32" 2k IPS 75hz monitor and its was also about $200… its a cheap ips monitor. Its as good as anything in its class.

You can look up the edid and work out what it is sold as in China.

source: i install and consult cctv usually for hik but dahua too

the reason these are cheap is they have an F420 out that improves on some features

          1) The marketing for the monitor is clear it's for video camera use.

What makes it unsuitable for browsing websites, reading emails, and watching YouTube?

          2) 300 cd/㎡ brightness is low.

          Dell UltraSharp 27 4K UP2720Q 250 cd/m²

          Dell S2421HN 250 cd/m²

          Samsung S70A 27" 300cd/㎡

          Samsung S60UA 27" 300cd/㎡

          3) 1000:1 contrast ratio is low.

Refer to all the links above - contrast ratio is also 1000:1 except for the $4,169 UltraSharp 4K PremierColor UP2720Q which is 1300:1.

          4) No sRGB or other colour accuracy.

Colour gamut is not the same as colour accuracy. It's also quite meaningless unless the user has a colorimeter and a need for accurate colors. Other monitors at this level don't come individually calibrated out of the factory so they can claim 99% sRGB but still look awful.

          5) No HDR (although common in other low range monitors).

So you're saying a monitor is "garbage quality" if it doesn't support HDR? You're going to be very disappointed when you're monitor shopping next. :)

Anyone that thinks this monitor "looks good", doesn't know what "good" is.

Dunno, it seems like you don't know what typical monitor specs are like.

I have the exact model for 2 years with no issue at all (apart from no auto sleep). For around $200, nothing even come close to it. Is comparing apples to apples that hard?

      • +1

        32" Philips 4K was ~ $217 recently.

  • I wonder if they messed up the datasheet or the images. The back of the monitor on the Dahua site seems to show an additional marking for mini-dp port.

Maybe it's just electrically shared with the normal size DP port.

  • I say no, given the spec.

  • +4

I've been using it for 2 years, no issues so far. Great and sharp pictures, maybe the colors and dynamic range are not as good as other well-known brands but that's not really a problem for me. The only thing that you need yo be aware is that the monitor doesn't go to sleep mode automatic, so you will need to power off the monitor after use.

    • I'm currently looking for a literal "throw around" monitor that I can use for LAN parties and the like, and not care about how banged up it gets. This fits the budget. But, the lack of auto sleep mode is a bit of a killer.

Have you used it for gaming at all?

My next option is a used 27" - 32" TV off eBay.

      • +1

My 2 years old one does not auto sleep. I need to press the power button to turn it off after use. My mate's 10 months old one does it.

        • It's quite variable on which monitors do auto sleep or not. All of my current monitors do, but a friends "throw around" BenQ monitor doesn't.

I used to have a VK266H as my LAN goer, but I donated it recently. That one also does auto sleep, and it was more than 10 years old

Edit: Are you saying that the same model, yours does not auto sleep, but your friends one does?

          • +3

@Goldfire: My friend's newer one does auto sleep. I did ask the supplier, their response was the monitor was designed for surveillance purpose hence does not auto sleep. They may have changed that down the track due to too many compains I guess.

            • @hotwinter: Ah, I see. I misread it initially.

Have you used it for gaming at all?
How are the speakers if you've used them?

I'm not looking for anything special at all, but don't want to simply throw away money either.

              • @Goldfire: I mostly use it for web browsing and office work. A few hours Fortnite did not make me sick for sure. BTW, I've just ordered another one for dual monitor setup. The recessed 75x75 vesa mounting holes may need long bolts and spacer. Can't recall if it comes with spacers in the box.

                • @hotwinter: Alrighty, thanks for the info.

                • @hotwinter: Mines didn't come with any additional spacers.

If you managed to Vesa mount it, I'm keen to hear

                  • +1

@IsTops: I'm using 20mm M4 screws from Bunnings. It cost $1.55 for pack of 12.

                    • @BGOnly: Could you take a photo?
Otherwise, what about getting a vesa mount adapter?

      • LAN parties still exist?

        • Yes.

        • Yeah. Steam deck just taken it to another level. Almost god tier now with the new ryzen mobile chip out this year.

    • +4

I got mine from MWave couple weeks ago and it does go to sleep mode.

  • I’ve got the Philips 32” 4K. Would this be a good companion side monitor? I just do excel and work. No games or movies
