Free Entry to Over 100 Swimming Pools & Over 100 Free BBQs on Australia Day

3900

List of all Australia Day events this year that are free for you and/or to enjoy, and it lolks like we have a record of free events compared to previous years.

It took me countless hours, days and night to make this post (not sure if I did TA a favour or not - I hope he hasn't started searching), going through every website possible but I’m sure I have missed HEAPS despite this (please show me some love ❤️). If I can help at least one of you get a free meal or entertainment for Australia Day then I've done my job. Hope you have a fun and happy celebration.

Almost no metro celebrations it looks like. Understandable though considering what the Premier has publicly said and how many metro councils have stopped doing AusDay citizenship ceremonies.

      • -2

Just another reason to leave Melbourne.

  • +43

+1 for the effort and the compilation of the details

    Have some love ❤️

  • -1

Oh great post, hope to see locations for vic soon or a way to find out

  • +3

    Nothing in VIC? :)

    • +4

Will post them out very soon, been having a terrible stiff neck lately.

      Check back tonight :)

      • Working too hard in Amazon warehouse? 😝

        • Its alright. They provided him with a softdrink bottle to pee in.

    • +6

Probably because many of our councils are woke.

      • +12

Dunno why voted down. This state is particularly angsty regarding Australia Day.

        God it's so tiresome.

        • -6

as is pretending the 26th of jan is a sacred date for Australia day.
29 years and its to holy to change. fragility abounds.

          • +12

            @doobes:

29 years and its to holy to change.

            215 years

@jv: So when it wasn't actually Australia day? Got it.

          • @doobes: Make Constitution Day the holiday?

          • +20

            @doobes:

            fragility abounds

Except only one side is always whinging about how woke/snowflakey/sensitive everyone else is. Just look at this deal, no one brought up 'invasion day' until JV etc preemptively did, funny that.

            • -1

@vawiyoci: We didnt have a public holiday announed when Steve Irwin or Shane Warne died but we have a queens birthday one…

              • +1

                @dickiee:

we have a queens birthday one…

                no we don't

          • +10

@doobes: Bending the knee to the woke is like feeding seagulls at the beach.
You take that first step onto a very slippery slope.

            • +6

@ajr5k: Oh dear the slippery slope comes out.
Used by those with no valid argument.

So nothing should change ever. Got it.

Or just the things you like shouldn't change?

              • +3

@doobes: Given your argument above is "29 years and its to holy to change.", I wouldn't go around criticising and calling others fragile.

          • @doobes: Omg just go away, seriously.

  • Btw MODS why do I have a referrer tag?

    • -1

Are you getting a % of the profits?

      • +1

        What profits?

        • -5

          from all the butchers.

  • Don't forget to like and subscribe.

  • +6

    Nice one woke state VIC

    • Did they change the date?

      • +3

No, you can still find the free pool entries and BBQ if you instead do a search for Invasion Day.

        • +4

Only place that needs invading is Victoria

          • +11

            @Budju: Dan's working on it…

        • +5

You have just received your first upvote from me, I feel like I need a cold shower and a bar of solvol.

Aww my upvote got taken away, looks like Waleed found your post.

Swimming pools are for decadent capitalist pigs, comrade.

You'll stay dry and you'll be happy.

  • +3

Which park with BBQ in SA is the best to cook risotto?

    Asking for a friend.

  • +5

There's really a place called Bogan Shore Council? Now I've heard it all.

    • +1
    • They are supplied wife beaters and flannels.

And theres a winnie blues and vb vending machine at the town hall.

    • +4

Everyday is Australia Day in Bogan Shire

      • +2

        Oi, oi, oi !!!

      • +3

        Eshay bah

    • +20

That's nice of you to post that, I'm going to celebrate Australia Day

      • -3

What are you celebrating thats specific to that date?

Surely if you're having a celebration, you'd want more people involved in the celebration, without those people feeling like they're celebrating the start of a massacre.

Let me guess, this comment will get negged without anyone responding.

        • +10

Last year I was at the bbq put on by Rotary volunteers at the local picnic park. They had a smoking ceremony where a local indigenous elder welcomed people to country, observing the day had both positive and negative connotations.p, and talking about what country means to indigenous Australians.
The bulk of people having a picnic were what my grandmother would have called “new Australians” who were enjoying a day off work and spending it with their families.

Nobody appeared to be celebrating Aboriginal genocide.

I personally would like to see our national day moved to another date when we become a republic, and it would be sensible to retain 26th of January as a day remembering the British Invasion, but also a start of a different chapter - I don’t see any issue with a day having a nuanced remembrance. I can oppose war, respect the Anzacs and also have a beer and a bbq on the 25th of April.
          I didn’t neg you and I responded.

        • -2

I would respond with a valid argument and sharing why i celebrate and feel like others should be able to freely and happily celebrate Australia Day… In Australia. But you won't listen, think or consider as your mind is already made up. Stop dooming the rest of society with your bs.

    • +8

but not an appropriate day for celebration IMO

      IMO it is….

    • +1

      boo hoo.

    • +1

      What is appropriate then?

    • +7

You should be entitled to your opinion.

I used to celebrate - but now think it would be a nice act for reconciliation to change the date.

These days Will Smith is stigmatised for slapping someone who insulted his wife. Yet the origins of post contact Australia, which resulted in mass unnecessary killing and suffering for aboriginal people, are still celebrated holistically. I do think that it's insensitive..

The Mabo land rights ruling by the Australia High Court in 1992 relied on the statement position from Indigenous Australians that the continent had been "settled" by the British and not conquered or invaded. This is enshrined in Australian law and provides the blueprint for the many Indigenous land claims in Australia.

      • +4

The critical thinking fallacy here is that this ruling was made by an Australian (ex-English) court.

        • +6

What forum would you suggest other than the Australian High Court?
Remember that this is the position of the Indigenous legal team itself and it was in 1992

          • +4

@King Tightarse: Like most communists, they'd prefer the matter be settled in Kangaroo Court.

          • +2

@King Tightarse: The First Nations legal team were probably forced to take the best offer that they could get at that time so many years ago.

I am looking forward to the future where Australia truely develops its own “forum” on such matters, and not inheriting from some English heritage. It’s time for Australia to grow up and be our own.

            • +7

@ilovefullprice: "The First Nations legal team were probably forced to take the best offer that they could get at that time so many years ago"
So in other words, you have no idea.
"Invasion day" but, but It's the "vibe' though, right? Lol.

              • +1

@King Tightarse: doesn't take that much thinking to infer that their hands were tied by the superior ruling class that forced them to take the best offer they had. what power do they have if they refused it? what can they actually do when their land is taken over by white people?

                • +1

@bakemon0: …that's the thing about establishing terminology within a position statement. Your proposals need to be defensible. IE have evidence that withstands scrutiny.
The emotive term 'invaded' would most certainly wilt like a wet lettuce under scrutiny. IE it's trendy but not likely defensible.
The term 'settled' was agreed by all parties but there was no compulsion to do so.
You could propose the term 'tinker-belled' if you could define and defend it.

                  • +1

@King Tightarse: your whole argument is "waah waah, a mainly white court decided on a single word and a few Aboriginal representatives agreed because they were outnumbered and powerless in said court" you can argue semantics all you want, but what you're ignoring is literally everything else that the white people did when they came in this land and you think everything is fine and dandy now because they "agreed" on it 200 years later?

                    • +1

@bakemon0: Yes, that's how the law works.
Definitions of terminology are supremely important and entire legal arguments can flow from single definitions.
I think you will find 'waah wahh' doesn't really cut it as a counter-point but by all means find a judge and put it to them some time

                      • +1

@King Tightarse: notice how you gloss pass the critique of said justice system and you still continue to clutch on it like it's relevant, is that the same law that said it's okay to steal Aboriginal kids from their family? same law that allowed slave owners to own another human being? The same law the prohibited women suffrage? or the one that said Cardinal Pell is innocent? it's obviously such a perfect system and we should trust it with all our lives. let's disregard actual evidence and praise this perfect justice system that has never failed. great idea!

                        • +1

@bakemon0: Please point me to the "critique of said justice system" was that the bit where you counter-pointed with "waah waah'? Actually, don't bother
Without a justice system we would have utter anarchy
                          Much like Alice Springs today.

      • -1

Nope, literally the opposite of what Sherry Sufi claims actually (the author of the article I assume you read this in): https://www.sbs.com.au/nitv/article/factcheck-can-native-tit…

        • +7

          Incorrect.
Referring to The Mabo land rights ruling by the High Court of Australia, 1992

          • -1

@King Tightarse: And I just provided a link to a factcheck article that details how your interpretation is wrong. There is no implication from the Mabo decision that somehow determines that Australia was "settled", and not "conquered" or "invaded". That's an implication that was widely shared in an opinion piece by Sherry Sufi (which I incorrectly had assumed is where you had seen that claim), thus the factcheck article refuting this.

            • +5

@Kessler: The piece you linked deals with the proposal of Native Title being dependent on Australia being settled and theoretically not applying should Australia have been invaded. That claim is what is being fact checked.
              It is a different point.

              • -1

@King Tightarse: Yes but it uses the same implication from the Mabo case that you are using - that they are conceding Australia was "settled". They didn't contest that language (presumably they would have lost that fight), only on native title. Implying otherwise is disingenuous at best.

                • +8

@Kessler: That's the point here. The term agreed by both sides was that Australia was 'settled'.
Language and the definition of specific language are fundamentally important and can direct entire arguments.
'Settled' and 'Invaded' are entirely different terms and have entirely different consequences and on-flow.
The fact that they agreed and did not challenge the term 'settled' in their position statement also implies that they accepted the term or at least accepted it in relation to the argument at hand.
It is a vitally important definition given the impact of the Mabo ruling.

      • -2

Being 'settled' puts Indigenous Australians in the best possible legal position with respect to land, which is likely why that position could have been taken.
'Invaded' and/or 'Conquered' seem closer to 'what happened' to me.

  • +7

Onya Victoria. #changethedate and make it an inclusive celebration.

    • +11

Why would changing the date suddenly make it inclusionary?

      • +6

Great question! Because it would no longer be celebrating a day of mourning for those who were massacred by the settlers, specifically the Waterloo Creek massacre. As a result, everyone could then celebrate, not only those who do not care about the mourning of First Nations people.

        • +2

You live in fairy land if you think a date change fixes anything.

      • +6

It wouldn’t. The problem is that it’s a celebration of Australia.

    Do Aboriginals get $10 off?

Since it is free for others, they will get $10 back if they attend.

I remember before people were left-brainwashed by distorted education. Man we used to be shameless about absolutely loving and enjoying Australia on Australia day..

      • +3

We can't love and enjoy Australia on Australia Day without also commemorating the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia.

        • +10

Sure you can. Most people just enjoy Australia/ being Australian with their friends and family while partying and wearing garish clothes.
Nothing complex about it. It was always a simple pleasure.

          • +2

@King Tightarse: Well that's just it, very few people celebrating Australia day are even thinking about early post contact history, just the great country that Australia is today.

That's also why I think it would not hurt to change the date - the simple pleasure of it could be sustained, and it would save offending many people.

            • +6

@acersaurus: I have no beef with changing the date but certainly don't agree with most of the 'invasion-day' revisionist arguments.
One day I think Australia will naturally become a republic. Whatever date 'Republic Day' falls on will make a great natural new Australia day. But please don't think that will stop the permanently aggrieved from whinging and whining. I am 100% sure they will move on to the next hysterical subject.

              • +3

@King Tightarse: There will certainly continue to be protests/grievances if the date is changed - with varied merits. Changing the date won't do much to heal the country.

But it's easy to do, is not without merit, will be genuinely appreciated by aboriginal people and will probably make the broader public feel more at ease about celebrating what has become a controversial event.

      • +19

I mean yeah, it's the truth. As leftists continue to scream at and shame normal people for innocently celebrating things like Australia day, it seems like the 'social dialogue' seemingly drifts apart and degrades as it happens. This isn't the only example of the obnoxious, loud portion of the left alienating and shaming normal Australians. We are obviously not the only nation this has happened to either. And we wonder why so many young people are depressed and feel a complete lack of purpose in our society.

US influence thanks to television and internet hasn't helped. 25 years ago we'd have some US shows on TV and not much internet at all. Now it's permeated everywhere.

Halloween, "realtor" (seen reddit, yesterday), entitled idiocy and of course, extreme politics.

And yet random kids and yes their parents to knock on my door expecting i open up and fork over lollies for free. All because of this.

Even got the look at one of the mothers like what are you some freak or weirdo. Why wont you hand over free lollies to my little one?

Stepped outside the balcony as the kids continually pressed the intercom buzzer and here i was trying to check what the commotion was about. And thats when i got the look.
