Rubber/elastic fasteners is a terrible idea. They will degrade over time being exposed to heat.
If they didn't include them then what would hold them down? Nothing.

you should be looking at ones with screw fasteners or connect via cutouts
most the time your best not to run one at all, you will get better results from some direct air from a fan.
m.2 heatsinks are real hit and miss. so can work ok, but there are alot that are just for looks and dont work well at all.

I kinda feel like any small heat sink may just cause more problems than good. If they don't dissipate heat quickly enough, all they may do is move energy/temperature from the hot controller to the nand, where you absolutely don't want it.

This doesn't look much different to the one that came with my $300 motherboard, in fin height anyway.
I think in this case it's the extra heat absorption and surface area for cooling that will help. I can't imagine this having worse performance or be detrimental to the life of the SSD in any way compared to no heatsink.
Holy shit they are held together by rubber bands. Never thought I'd see these but I did now.
Surely a coupla small cable ties are better than rubber bands.

Plan on using it in the Dell Optiplex 7060. Still undecided if I should rubber band or cable tie, will test out later.
Zip ties would last longer term. Since there's no airflow going over M.2 slot due to the blower style CPU fan it's going to get a bit toasty there.
